    Psy's editing continues to be top-notch, and I for one will never get tired of Jules being so welcoming, positive, and expressive in his rundowns of these lists. It feels less like a typical KZread list presentation and more like friends coming over to chat with you about cool things they've found in a game. Keep up the great work, you two!

    Resident Evil 3 also qualifies. In the original you could be chilling in a room in which you defeated all enemies, thinking the threat was over and Nemesis would break in. In the remake he can actually show up _in save rooms,_ the one kind of room in the game that's supposed to be 100% safe.

    it doesn't really count, but a gag in "Perfect Dark" comes to mind. there's an area called "the carrington institute", where you can practice sneaking, to target practice with every gun you're unlocked, and explore a large building safely... BUT, there's a mission where the enemy ATTACKS that building, and you have to rescue everyone! the mission doesn't even start normally, it fools you into thinking you've won, then Joanna hears an explosion... she's also wearing a fancy dress during the mission, instead of her usual jumpsuit!

    I remember the workbench ambush when playing Last of Us 2. I actually liked it. The whole build up was brilliant, because I first found notes nearby indicating there's a group hiding out here. When you sneak into the building there are glass bottles as alarms, so I’m just waiting to expect survivors inside. You even hear footsteps in the floor above. Then you clear the room but there's this door you can’t open, and in the back of my mind I’m thinking "got to be an ambush." As a result, when I used the workbench and heard footsteps sprinting at me from behind, I was more than prepared for a fight. Environmental storytelling at its best.

    In my opinion Castlevania Lament of Innocence could count. Up to this game I got use to the fact that when you clear a hall you could take a moment to stand there if you want. I stood at the door at the end of one just to see if Leon had an idle animation when I first played the game, only to get attacked out of nowhere by a blood skeleton.

    Honestly I just started playing the Arkham series again and that Man-Bat cut scene got me still while playing the new game plus mode. I looked down for a second to give my kitten attention and thing somehow got me even though I knew it was coming. And if you listen to the conversations from the soldiers and thugs you can hear a conversation talking about Man-Bat flying around.

Was excited for the game, eventually played it when it came out, saw it really had nothing to do with silent hill 1-3 at all, kept dying because the ghosts and our room being so cursed-my fault because i took home the old cursed doll. Never finished the game but i played it over a holiday break from college when i got it and had time to play it and never really had that amount of time to sit down and just play since. Always work and college, work and tending to my family and now, basically just work. Someday though, perhaps.

    Geez, I must be so desensitized to jump scares, I've read that most people were scared by that, me, I was like: "ooh, that's weird", and that's it. Games like Dead Space, Dead Space 2 and Dead Space Remake, real jumpscare fests, never got me. The last two games that have scared me are Outlast and Immortality, and it was more because of tone and atmosphere, so I guess I'm immune to jump scares haha.

  • @justinsinke2088

    @justinsinke2088

    28 күн бұрын

    @@duhmzdaih Suppose I use "jump scare" loosely. It's not like I yelped in fear or anything, but the sudden appearance of Man-Bat when I thought I was in a generic animation caught me off guard in a way that most "jump scares" just don't. I've played the three main Dead Space games, and I don't recall any part I'd find genuinely "scary", especially when you can usually see the jump scares coming a mile off. It's more of a surprise when something doesn't come bursting out of an air vent.

    How is ALIEN Isolation not on the list? Not even an “honorable mention”? The most nefarious room, or section, you thought you were safe was the area containing the Marshalls office. Completely safe, no xenomorph, no killer androids and no hostile humans. A safe sanctuary for you to take a deep breath knowing that you are safe. Obviously, after the Alien is dealt with the Working Joes go on a murder rampage and the once serene, peaceful safe spot is overrun with killer androids and hostile humans. But here’s another little secret: once the Working Joes, or you, eliminate the hostile humans and you eliminate the Working Joes the area is safe again and can be revisited any time even when the Alien is in play again he won’t show up. Or so you thought. Revisiting the area once the Alien is in play again, getting rid of any Working Joes or hostiles and no sign of the Alien makes you think that the area is still safe from him. BUT the moment you call a tram to take you to another part of the station while waiting for it to come to you, you hear the unmistakable, heart pounding, adrenaline rushing and all out frightening sound of THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP and the Xenomorph rushes straight at you. This place wasn’t safe at all. It was never safe at all. That happened to me on my second playthrough while backtracking looking for secrets and scrap. On the reload, after he killed me I called the tram but this time I hid. Sure enough, he came rushing into the room to investigate and started his usual search routine and eventually left the room just as the tram car arrived. It was then that I realized that this area was never safe space from the Xenomorph at all.
