It’s dormant and activated by stress. 50% of people have ‘diverticulosis’ and may never become diverticulitis. A low imunity (whether you know you are or not) will activate it. And if you’re in the 50% a bad diet will also activate it. As you age your bowels become weak so thats why most people will have this later in life.

Also reduce stress in your life as much as you can. I’m just 33 but have worked in Urgent Care and ER here in the Busy San Francisco Bay Area these last 5 years and with them cutting budgets and not replacing staff. Mine just first happened last year in September but I eat greens, fruits and other healthy foods but I’m guessing the stress is a big cause of this diverituculutis

I have been battling this since June 23rd, after my last pill, it came back and my doctor sent me to the ER again, just to have another CT Scan and blood work, same results, Diverticulitis ! I was on a 10 day supply of these meds and now on a 14 day supply!! I just received a bill for the first visit, which was over $800.00! I am on my second round of these meds! I removed carbs, sugar, and caffeine since my first flare up in June. I only eat meat, eggs, and butter. The more fat the better. I pray it does the trick! I am on my 20th day of grounding. I'm doing a 30 day challenge with a family on Utube (Homesteadhow). My energy is coming back slowly! Except my bowels are still not working!

Since the holidays, ditto. Had colonoscopy; results are diverticulitis and IBS-D. Celexa, doc put me on an IBS med called xifaxan and pre/probiotics. No generic yet for xifaxan .Over$ 2,000 for one treatment of pills. Who can afford that if you have no insurance? Dealt with FOD map diet, did not stop my issues. I still eat sparingly and carefully because it's becoming a mental issue now, for me. Anxious about eating anything. Fearful a blow out will happen. This hits only in the mornings. Inside half the day till there's nothing left. Blood work is good etc. So for me, it's probably stress and genetics. Do the teas still. Peppermint, turmeric etc. Sometimes the gut hurts going through this, sometimes ok. Very frustrating. Hoping this round of meds actually helps correct this!

But because of extreme stress with work and an ill family member I have gained some weight and am dealing with flare ups. I'm actually scared that it might result in peritonitis and sepsis. This is NOT True! Yes, everything I've read says that Diverticulitis is the result of a low fiber diet. I am a 50-year (WFPB) VEGAN, who has been studying nutrition for 50 years and i cook all of my own organic Whole Food recipe meals. I am 77 years old. You can imagine my shock when I got a colonoscopy and the doctor told me I had diverticulosis and told me to eat lots of fiber which has always been the main focus of my meals. I eat Chickpeas 5 times a week (Hummus, falafel, Vegan Tuna), avocados, black beans and tons of oats. Up until a year ago I had the most beautiful #4 Turds and now I've got constipation everyday with #1 Pebble turds. I want my regular bowel movements. Got app[ointment to a Gastroenterologist next month. Believe me when I tell you that no one is more conscious of what they eat than I am and here I sit completely dumbfounded!

I myself was only eating vegetarian since I got sick 5 yrs ago, but the thing I really liked was popcorn which I started to eat in huge amounts when Boom Chicka pop was brought into my country. So it's the thin hard outer skin of the popcorn that cut one of the pouches and I bled heavily. Went into hospital last Christmas to do the colonoscopy and also an endoscopy when the surgeon saw nothing there. But he said that I have Diverticulitis. Since then I stopped eating the popcorn.

Diet and lifestyle are risk factors, not causes. Lots of people have healthy habits and still develop diverticulosis, even diverticulitis, perforated bowels etc. A healthy diet and lifestyle is not a guarantee you won't develop problems. But, it certainly can't hurt! Side effects include healthy heart and lungs.

Some good tips, but isn't L-glutamine linked to cancer? Just as sugar? Feeding cancer cells from what I heard. I think different people have somewhat different causes and therefore need different solutions. If you know you eat fiber - it's something else for YOU, and so on. But important to know the various possible causes to find YOUR solution. I suppose many of us have poorer microbiomes than we realise, for example.

  • @MsJordanaIsabel

L-Glutamine isn’t recommended for individuals who already have cancer as the cancer cells use it, along with glucose, to grow. It is not, on its own, a cause cancer. It’s the most abundant amino acid in the body. If it caused cancer, the human species would have died out long ago.

I had lots of flare ups, what worked for me was to go on strict diet for 3 months to cleanse your gut, cut off sugar, salt and oil, bread. Only use Olive Oil if needed and white meat or soup during this period. It also helped me to get rid of the IBS that was triggered. I did have a fallback when I was stressed out so I had to do it all over again and this time lasted for 7 months without any flare ups as long I maintain my stress level and taking my daily probiotics.

I was recently prescribed both of these medications also. Terrible side effects! I did a full 14 day script with not much relief. I was then prescribed Augmentin. I'm still in a flare after 7 weeks. So painful. Be careful of Cipro.

There’s a study from 2009 with over 10,000 patients in JAMA. Nuts and seeds do not exacerbate diverticulitis. Healthy fiber is your best defense.

This is a very "personalized" disease. What might not bother you could send another person into a bad flare, and vice versa.

Diverticulitis - is triggered by certain conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Epstein Barr etc... stress triggered illnesses etc. Stress alone can trigger it.

The castor oil is not IN the hot water bottle. It’s on the skin, and the hot water bottle helps it absorb.

Castor oil has been around since the dawn of time. I have used arnica cream and a roll of CBD cream that I have. I rub them over the area of the pain, it works for me.
