Legit conversation I had with the 3 guitar guys in my hometown's largest guitar store. They unanimously said that the most impressive guitarist that they had ever seen in the store was this guy who just walked in one day and played the sweetest simplest little licks, but with so much soul that their jaws dropped. Turns out he was Jackson Brown's lead guitarist and they were doing a show that night. Let that sink in, the most jaded guitar shop guys were most impressed by soulful simplicity.

@@bryanh3057 riiiight. Ya no, I was part of this guitar group. And they'd have a night where everyone would post what they been working on, and 80% of what was posted was just noodling to youtube backing tracks, which would be fine if they all didn't have that generic blues "play with feel" sound to it. It's good to mix it up, cause that simple pentatonic blues just gets sooooo old. Every video would start with the same bend 😂 then 4 notes on the pentatonic

Was in my tiny local shop, two guys walked in, grabbed two ESPs and proceeded to play the entire “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” matching James and Kirks’ tone PERFECTLY. They then bough the amps they were testing out and left. Another guitar shop story, Mike the son of the owner and the resident instrument tech (he could fix anything, even accordions because that was the shop’s first instruments back in the day) was demoing a wireless system for someone, who couldn’t believe how far the range was. Mike grabbed a red strat, plugged in the wireless transceiver, started playing and walked out the door and down the street. He made it a whole block and a half, no problem(and he made a sale)!

I think the main reason Tyler gets so much flack for this is unlike sponsorships on most other KZreadrs it's pretty easy for him to turn it into a entire video or at least use whatever gear he's sponsoring throughout. Sometimes the riffs you play at guitar shops don't even need to be impressive to just start up wholesome conversations about music. I took my guitar in to the tech to get it set up for 12-56's so I could play easier in b Standard. When the tech gave me my guitar I plugged into an orange and played Electric Wizard for about 5 minutes before the dude working there came over and struck up a convo about Wizard. He was a cool guy, loved doom. We spoke for a while and I ended up buying a JHS fuzz pedal while I was there on his recommendation. We're all in there because we love music, I forget that sometimes under all the gear and nerves of playing in front of the staff.

I've heard you've been having issues in the form of hostilities while trying to play "Stairways to Heaven" in guitar stores. Here are some suggestions on how to play the riff in guitar stores without the store owner getting too suspicious. 1. Assuming you are in a key of A minor. With the C key raised to C# start by playing "Hotel California" and when the coast is clear, swap out the C# key with the C key and then play the forbidden riff while at all times observing the guitar store owner incase you have to quickly switch C back to C#. 2. Just play the song backwards, by the time the store owner realizes what is happening, you would have already finished or started. 3. Playing "Stairways to Heaven" in a store where you already tried suggestion 1 should also be possible. Assuming you are in a key of A minor with the C key tuned to C#. As not to raise any suspicions with the guitar owner, you should be able to do the same trick mentioned in suggestion 1 but this time start with "Humpty Dumpty" and when the coast is clear you should easily be able to switch to the forbidden riff by lowering the C# key by a semi tone. I'm sure you can come up with better tactics. Good luck with playing the forbidden riff.

That opener solo you played when you kicked into Crazy Train used to give me so much grief when I was a kid. I practiced it for hours trying to get each note nice and smooth. P.S. I love that old blue Strat.

Love that you had Tool included. They have so many underappreciated guitar riffs in their catalog.
