High dollar builds are neat and all, but it is far cooler to see great performance done on a budget. Kudos for this build :)

Awesome car! Budget building is an art form in itself. Anyone can run 8s with a fat wallet. Doing it on nickels and dimes is incredible.

@@TasteMyPP I tried to reply about Penntech header fab blocks and header and pipe 3d software. I think it deleted it because of links maybe? Either way, check those out. Even if you can't weld, you can make complete custom Lego headers and take them to a welder. With the 49 dollar software, you can cut all your pipe as well. Saving a ton for the fab because fabs finished, only need someone to tig the prefab.

Wow, this was a really professional video. We can see perfectly what you are showing, and understanding what you are explaining. In 2013 our mustang blew up a coolant hose at the Grassroots Motorsports challenge at Gainesville. Your dad was the top dog on the quarter mile, but he took the time to help a rookie. I was not the only one you guys helped as he shared his knowledge to a mostly autocross audience. Your family is a great example of teamwork and devotion to the sport, where a well seasoned team, helps every body in the paddock. Wish you all health so you can continue to do your good job.

Holy Smokes! That thing is a white knuckle rocket at the end! Love it!
Great video, straight to the point. Nothing wrong with being frugal with your money. Also your right about keeping light. Weight to horsepower ratio & traction is everything in drag racing.
Fantastic "Tour" LOL Super interesting and educational. Obvious you guys know what's what. Thanks much!
Great build. I need to go to your flea markets!
Destroking for "No Prep" is genius. Couple of smart guys here!
Very nicely done! Amazing the power that car has love it!!
Save weight and save parts, i like the make it strong where it counts and let the flaws shine. None of mine are near show cars but im never worried about a scratch or dent on them either, love the Studebaker build man always love the classic iron
This is one of the most BEAUTIFUL Novas ive ever seen!! And especially i mean externally beautiful! Perfect! The stance, paint, colours, rims, tyres, front & rear ect ect. Nova is the compact Chevelle and admire your frugality recipe. Destroking sounds like my cup a tea. Cam it and get in the meat at high rpms that makes your gearing longer increasing ET, 3:15 rear is also the secret sauce. Big props to pops. Love it and its one off fabrications!

Third car I ever built was similar to this and made 850 on the dyno with a 6 liter Lq4 engine we added a cam trunion upgrade oil pump and a forced inductions 7675 with the precision injectors had a blast out of that car anything over a thousand your maintenance goes up big time that’s real talk nice build guys.
That’s the best looking and fastest $50 car I’ve ever seen!
I'm 31 and have never drag raced before. I have a 5.3 L33 that ill be budget building for either an n/a street car or s10, or build it up with a turbo or 2 for a full on drag car. I absolutely LOVE doing things on a budget! Thanks for all the awesome content!

Good to see someone else running a destroked 6.0
Give Mahle a ring or e mail. They had some really great catalogs for their pistons. You know they weighed within 5 gms of the 4.8 piston but they are fit for a 6.0 bore. I'm betting there won't be more than one or two likely candidates. That is a nice piece of "racer knowledge"! FR

I'm hoping to see u guys at beaver next season, my car will be ready, I have the white foxbody with black racing stripes
That is a sweet well built race car you guys built. Love it. I’m also building a destoked 6.0. 4.8 crank and rods. Cheap pistons .4.040” but one thing I will have to highly dis Agree on. Cathedral port heads when ported correctly can make way more power than a Ls3 style head. I’ve dyno’d 100’s if set ups. And a proper cathedral port head makes power across the whole lower range that the rectangle port heads just can’t do. Yes they can flow awesome at wide open top of the rpm curve. But can’t touch a 862 with good work done to it. But agin. Love the car. Sick.

Yes. Start with a small chamber Unshroud the intake valve so it makes the chamber a few cc bigger then deck .020 off to bring it back down and a good port job. I can make more power threw the curve than a LS3 head. They might get a few more HP up top. But can’t touch it threw the curve. And sadly no. I no longer build race cars for work. Thanks for reminding me there tough guy.
FANTASTIC. THANKS
awesome car love it.
Too funny. I have nearly the exact same set up in a 1964 AMC Rambler. Wanted to kill bottom end torque due to the smallish 275 tire. 4.8 crank, gen 4 rods, 6.0 block, square port heads, Wiesco flat top piston's for a stock stroke 6.0 are a drop in minus the balance needed., mild camshaft, single 80mm turbo though. Holley Terminator X Max, 4L80e, Ford 8.8 with 3.73 (probable a little steep), Hoping for 800whp. Yet to fire it. Getting close though. Car should come in at 2800lbs. Looking for 9's in a street car for the power tour.
"... the sheet metal is there to hold stickers." Love it! XD I also love how this car could humble all of the Tesla S Plaid's I've been seeing videos of that are running low 9's. More fun to see experience, passion, and a barn full of old parts beat out some rich guy's $150k toy.

It's fun to learn about other people's projects and what makes them tick. I just gotta say, though, an 8.62 isn't teasing 7s... though I am sure with some tweaking you can make 7s happen.

A few years back, some young guy had a 1982 S-10, turboed, 5.7 LS--stock bottom end--ran 8's, all day long. He said if it lunched the motor, he'd just pull it, and put another stock bottom end mill in it. HE later decided to try for 7's, and was going to step up to a 6.0 LS to do it. Makes sense... lol
Nice car
this is not 'Street Legal'!!......& I'm OK WITH THAT!! Great 'JOB'! Keep Them 'LIGHT'...That's The 'KEY'!! cheers From Canada!
I've always wanted to split a turbo in half. So the hot section in not close to the intake section, & connect them via a carbon kevlar rod housed inside aluminum tube. Another idea I've had is to put timken circular split ceramic needle roller bearings on the main bearings, con rod bearings, with a hole drilled in them the same place a race bearing would have it, to give the bearings oil pressure. I would also put caged roller needle bearings around the wrist pins like on outboard engines. I would also insert ceramic circular needle bearings in the block where the cam main bearings go. I've always wanted to make a cam that would fire two pistons at the same time. Say the piston furthest back on the right side of the block, & the piston in the front on the left side to balance out the V8 when running. The next pair would be the next one up on the right side, & the next one back on the left side & so on. I think destroking an engine is better also, high rpm, equals horsepower, don't need more torque when the horsepower is over 800 horsepower.

Yeah people neglect everything but the trans you have to have a good converter and trans and rear end etc.
