Another great video. String muting is so important, especially if your going through a heavy amp like a Marshall. Without it you get nothing but mud, it is something you need to be aware of when you start out. Eventually your brain takes over and trains your hands to mute without having to think about it. Thanks again for your work.

Excellent video Andrew! Some of this is already in my repertoire but some of these are great new techniques to work with! You asked for comments on what we’d like to see more of. Personally tip/trick 7 is the most compelling for me. I’d like to see a bit of a deeper dive into that particular technique. That double tap is nice. Thanks for the great content!

This is great content!! Learning guitar and strumming is my biggest problem.

Great content Andrew! Can you do a follow-up video on how to do such quick and smooth down- and upstrokes during funk / rhythm play? That would be really interesting and a quite hard part for a lot of guitar players.

@@andrewclarkeguitar I'm 64. I started in a recording studio at 13 years old. My uncle Peter Heine was director of advertising for Billboard Magazine starting in 1965. I am a lyricist it's where I fit in. I have five guitars but don't consider myself a guitar player. I've seen a lot of good guitar players come and go. I love to watch instructional videos on how to play guitar. You do an excellent job.

Great lesson Andrew! As an intermediate guitar player 2 of the things that you talked about got my attention: Dynamic Palm muting and 'Highs and Lows( i.e. thinking about the guitar like a drum set) If you could make some videos in the future that would focus on these two (maybe some songs that use them) that would be great Cheers!

Great stuff ! A lot comes naturally just through putting in the time. Ironically the most basic strums are difficult for someone (me) who has been chugging away at muted metal power chords for a couple decades. ugh. Some of your strums remind me of Live (lightning crashes etc..) cool tone. Thanks again for awesome content !

Wow, last thing u did, tuck pick in index finger n spread others out, made me realize I couldn't do that! Working on this now, already seeing improvement. Bet many students can't do this as it's not something non guitar players would ever do, but feel it's important to have this type of Dexterity to properly mute strum

Great suggestion on the playing with fingers thing! As for slide... Well, I'll be honest. I'm pretty bad at it. Not sure you want a hack like me teaching it 😂

Oh #8 is so useful!! I thought it was just my problem and I wasn’t holding the pick tight enough…but then I couldn’t do it keeping the rest of my arm/wrist/hand relaxed. Grippy picks helped a little. Gonna try this for sure

Yet another great lesson bud, I've been looking for some good rhythm guitar videos lately and this is exactly what I wanted. Some exercises for getting better at the techniques you mentioned would be great too. I'm a beginner and every video you upload is like an eye opener to me when it comes to learning and guitar concepts. You're an excellent teacher and I'm always looking forward to the weekly uploads. Also, are going to do one on the CAGED system? Keep up the good work Andrew and thank you for these lessons.

I'm really glad you've been finding the videos helpful! CAGED is up there on the list of topics I want to cover. Just want to make sure I present it in the right way. I'm really picky about how I teach things and sometimes it takes some time to iron out a clear presentation 😅

I think you should go in-depth into each technique :)

Something James Hatfield once said he has always held his pick with two fingers on it something to try out love your videos I have learnt a lot so far.

wow! suffering from some sorta shoulder pain all of a sudden. i have been trying to develop these rhythms but i guess these wide body accoustics of mine are playing hellwitjh my shoulder!!! when i play...sure enough...there it is!! i need to find a stretch ot something because i am depressed! i was moving along sooooo well!!!!!!!

Oh nooooo, that's not good. I've definitely gone through stints of discomfort and injury due to guitar playing. Might be best to take a break until it heals, then come back and work on your posture and technique. The wide bodies are definitely going to give you trouble. Try making sure you aren't too hunched forward, keep your back straight and your shoulders back. Might help a bit.

Very nice video as always... one question: you lock your pick with index, so using picky finger to play finger style? Not better to lock pick with picky, so 4 remaining fingers stronger?

I use hybrid picking a lot, which forces you to use your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers to fingerpick while using the thumb and 1st finger to hold the pick. After doing that for so long, it's easier for me to use those fingers. Plus, it's must faster to pull the pick back with your 1st finger instead of moving it all the way to your pinky to tuck it away.

While you’re doing tutorials, would you go in depth on the major and pentatonic scales? I know there are tons of videos about the scales I just like the way you teach!

Honestly I find while I can watch a bunch of improvising tutorial, the method of practicing and learning a scale or a lick is often ignored. Like what's the point of seeing the harmonic minor scale on the fretboard without your fingers being able to play them :P

Guitareo is good. I actually used to think that Guitareo was Ayla Mabe’s channel. She also does great videos for them.

I love drumeo and pianote but havent gotten into a groove with guitareo. I really wish Guitareo had something like the 30 day blues on pianote or 30 day chops on Drumeo- I like the new workouts. but it would beAMAZING to have like a 30 day blues/neo soul/funk/etc on guitareo!!!

Wow! How do you do that in part 1 with the advanced strum? You play a pattern but at the same time the strum continues. That's not easy.

How on earth do you do that kind of strumming with a 2.5 mil pick? I got a .70 pick for that. It would be great to be able to play anything with the same pick.

Just comes down to finding the balance between grip strength and pick position. You should also be angling your pick slightly as you pick so that it doesn't get caught in the strings. Takes a lot of practice 😅

How do you strum swing rhythms?

You have to adjust your constant strumming to fit the swung rhythm. So you can't just follow the straight quarter notes anymore. Not too challenging, just takes a little practice.
