First off don’t compare yourself to anybody out there and stick to focusing on your skills and ability! Lot’s of people come into the sport wanting to be really good to start off but it comes with time and practice just like anything else. Where would you say you’re at right now? Then I’ll shoot you some tips!

@@LainVanOgle Very true! Well, very experienced as a roadie (Ironman, etc) more or less brand new to MTB. Have done a few rides on borrowed bikes and done it as a kid, but that's about it. So, good bike handling and such, but poor knowledge of riding on loose surfaces, jump position, etc. Have quick access to Duthie and Tiger; I think my mid-term goal is to get decent at quick flow. Tech is somewhat appealing, but flow is my focus for now. MTB isn't my primary focus at all, just another way to have fun when the weather isn't great for road.

That’s awesome love it! Big thing on the mountain bike is to have a neutral position over the top of the bike (not to far forward or backward). And especially to remember at times when cornering to bend those knees and elbows to get closer to the bike (this helps your center of gravity). Little things like outside pedal down when turning as well helps to conquer turning on loose surfaces. At duthie a good trail to practice turns and body positioning is the downhill part of bootleg. Simple trail but if you get into it you can really improve you’re handling skills there. And then also at duthie you have gravy train which is a great trail to get comfortable jumping.
