There used to be a game called Ballbusters. There were a number of balls on long springs plugged into a base. You'd pull a ball back and let it go. The ball would spring back and hit one of the other player's balls which would then fly apart. The ad said, "The object of the game is to bust your opponent's balls!"

Corona beer did lose some sales because COVID-19 was first referred to as a "coronavirus", but eventually, it was just called COVID-19. Its classification as a coronavirus was no longer brought up; and the brand Corona had been around for decades so it didn't have long-term damage to the brand name.

So true. In 1977 I was a waitress in a Big Boy restaurant. They had a really good burger with Swiss, red onion on a pumpernickel bun. It was geared toward men but it wouldn't sell because it was called the "Swiss Miss". Men didn't want it an women didn't care for it due to the huge size and strong onion. They changed the name to the Brawny Burger- problem solved. Ihop understood this trend and went the other way with the "Rooty Tooty Fresh 'n Fruity" which everyone got a kick out of saying because it was embarrassingly funny. Not sure how the Quiche fared tho when restaurants started listing it as the "egg pie".

OK so I have actually had HIV/AIDS since 1984. I remember as a child, being born in 1964, those commercials for the ayds diet plan. When she found out she was horrified and watch door for me for some time as we couldn’t afford to go to the emergency room back then. One thing you have to remember about The Flinstones. It was not designed for children It was the 1st prime time animated tv show. It didnt discourage kids from watching but the primary target were adults. Also cigarette adds were common place back then. Every major TV show had cigarette adds. Philip Morris was a major sponsor for I Love Lucy for years. You can still see adds that were not removable such as Lucy.Does a TV Commercial. They cut her line Call for Philip Morris. But she is still wearing the bellboy suit and holding a pack of cigarettes. I agree i couldn't imagine them airing these during the 1980s but by then i think all TV cigarette adds had been banned. I was pretty young and dont really remember seeing cigarette adds on TV.

I distinctly remember an SNL parody commercial with Garret Morris and Dan Aykroyd for a three bladder safety razor ( back then a single or double was the norm.) At the very end was a close up of Dans face…smiling and saying, “ ‘cause you’ll buy ANYTHING!” The first time I saw a commercial for a real 3 blade product…I immediately thought of that. We are now on 5 blades, I think! I honestly still use a twin if I am not shaving with my straight razor. One blade just takes forever. Two worked the best, especially to get the part where my upper lip meets my nostrils but three or more makes it impossible to get that part… It may be better for girls as they have a lot more area to cover and generally don’t have to shave their face but that SNL commercial was absolutely correct. If anyone can find it post a reply here…

@@nickv1008 Yes, I do also remember the Bass-O-Matic …but what I am talking about is an entire, multi-billion dollar industry of products…correctly predicted by comedians that are in fact redundantly useless or entirely useless that are purchased by the IDIOCRACY as innovations they think they can’t live without. The first two generations of SNL comedians actually wrote or greatly contributed to the writing of the material they performed and were actually LIVE. I believe it was because of Eddie Murphy, during his original stint, that the network (NBC) had received so many fines and complaints (FCC & Karen’s) that a six second delay was imposed. This leads us to today’s lame ass, prerecorded, PC, woke and politically re-educational excuse for a comedy show that I simply will not abide. People used to stay home, invite friends and be at least half as “lubed up” as the SNL players because they knew they were seeing a totally unique show. Most partied on to SCTV afterwards… cocktails flowing and sinsemilla smoke clouds in the air.

Three of these are commercials for the appetite suppressant called Ayds - there was nothing "inappropriate" about the commercials (although some may question the idea of losing weight via appetite suppressants - some of which are still on the market)... just that around the same time the disease resulting from HIV was named AIDS. Just a case of poor timing due to giving a disease the same sounding name as the product.
