Thank you for the practical applications for training. I’m getting back to shooting and concealing carry after traveling. Much of this I can practice at home to give myself more affective time at the range. Love your videos.

Geauga, thanks for these training videos I really appreciate them. What is your opinion of the necessity of tap-rack clearing exercise? I have never had a magazine failure on a S&W family of handgun and I don't know when a tap would ever solve a potential S&W problem. In all my exercises, the only problem I *have* run into is not inserting the magazine firmly enough *which immediately results in the heavy metal magazine falling straight out to the floor!!!* This problem about a magazine not being fully inserted seems to only be for folks with tight or lightweight mags which happen to stay in the magwell even when they're not locked in place. That can be a tolerance issue being too tight, but I never see that scenario happening with S&W.

Good stuff. I’m ex military, so I already knew all of this, but to our non Leo’s and military it’s great training. I still do these drills plus more. I have my son load magazines any way he wants. Sometimes he will load live rounds with snap caps, or if we don’t have snap caps he will use spent casings, sometimes he will not load it all the way so I have to do mag changes. It is great because I never know what he will hand me, just like I will never know what could happen in a real life situation. I live by the desert, well within 100 miles, so I can draw from the holster, but when I go to the indoor range 10 minutes away I have to do these drills. Love your channel. Keep it up.

Neil, I wish I could come pay you a visit. I'm sure I'd benefit from some of your training. I've precious little time to even sneak off to the sandpits. Question: I see vids like these which include frequent dry firing. I grew up being taught that dry firing is abusive to the firing pin, & should be avoided. I even used snap caps in my O/U nust to decock it after a day of shooting. What's your take on that? I'd much prefer to not have to chase little snap caps all over the floor.

Ken I fire 10 - 15 dry fire rounds every live fire round, I'm a firearms instructor, and I have a private range on my property, so you can do the math. But if your concerned use snap caps.

@@geaugafirearmsacademy The manual for the Ruger SR9c states to not dry without a magazine due to the mag disconnect. Took mine out so it isn't an issue. Just have to know your gun. I will use snap caps and plan to try them at the range, but I will also dry fire without them. I wonder if a snap cap ever damaged a firing pin though. I guess it's possible?

Would you recommend training like a typical workout at the range? Meaning you do certain reps of a specific drill then move on to the next drill for that day? And periodically return to that drill. I'd imagine training like that with dry fire at home would be effective and consistent.

I have recently bought my first handgun two days ago and have been really getting to know it. I load it, cycle it, and make sure It feeds well. my problem Is Im so safety concious that im always worried I did something wrong or I might forger something. I compulsively check the firearm for ammo even if I just checked seconds ago. is this bad to be nervous? is it more dangerous to be overly concerned than to be reasonably ssfe?

How many rounds per session do you suggest is quality versus risk of shooting fatigue for focused practice? 25, 50, 100+ rounds? Usually I shoot a box of 50. Takes about 15-20 minutes. This video helps come up with a range plan. Very helpful.

Michael Brian I think it's all about the person. At first I only shot 100 rounds at a time. This was on a static range. Now that I'm a more advanced shooter and work on a moving range I shoot around 4-500 rounds without fatigue. But I did have to work up to this. I think it's important to be able to make combat effective hits under fatigue though

I have the same question all the time, I join the range membership near my office, for $25 a month I can shoot from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday, so if business is light I'll just go there at lunch time and shoot a box of 50. at the weekend I usually shoot 100~150 round.

I usually shoot around 150-200. For me personally, I find that it is better for training purposes to shoot often vs shooting a lot when I do shoot. I think the important thing is to not continue shooting if you feel yourself hitting a slump or getting fatigued because it can ingrain bad habits. Your brain will be processing the experience after it ends and having a sort of praxis with itself so it can do better the next time.

Put your non-dominant hand to your chest simulating defeating clothing. When you draw pull the gun straight up from your holster til your shoulder and elbow lock. Bring your hands together without flagging your hand. This puts you in compressed ready and you're ready to press out or present the gun. Hope that helps.

I am not certain why you emphasis dry fire but in 1965 i was told at police academy NEVER DRY FIRE a weapon. Now if round fails to fire deal with the situation. In the military we never dry fiered in basic training we always was live fire. I know i am OLD SCHOOL but why all the dry fire? Besides i learned dry firing causes more stress on some parts and premature damaged firearm.

All of the red-tape safety is what has ruined the indoor shooting range as a whole. I'd rather go out into the wilderness where I have a safe backdrop and people I trust around me instead of standing in a both completely unable to actually train properly. Indoor ranges leave CCW carriers GROSSLY un-practiced.
