There's also one legend of the great wall. A woman tried to find her husband at the Great Wall of China and the heaven were touched by her so people said that the crack from the wall was because she cried off the great wall. I think you guys should consider doing some chinese legends or story. It will be so interesting!

This video was no way trying to bash Chinese culture. We are just trying to present the misconceptions about the Great Wall and the facts behind it. Our channel is all about promoting Chinese culture. And if we really don't care about the Great Wall, we wouldn't name our channel after it! The Great Wall is actually being destroyed by local governments and businesses for profit /watch?v=KiX_1gRqZKI the fact they have no regards to ancient artifacts is the real bashing to our cultural heritage!

Interesting video, you should also make a video about the misconceptions about the 8 misconceptions in this video. (1) What people really mean when they say "you can see the Great Wall from the moon/space" is that it is visible from very high altitudes, the same way you are able to discern narrow ridges on mountains from very high altitudes with the naked eye. Parts of the Great Wall are built on ridges and some parts do not blend in with the surroundings at all. Our eyes have this amazing ability in discerning small objects even from a distance if the right conditions are met (e.g., contrast or motion). Just see it for yourself next time you are on an airplane at over 10,000 feet high. (2) The list was actually created much later, not by the so-called ancient Greeks, perhaps by Italians or some other Western historians in the more recent past who have been trying very hard to push back the date of the oldest civilization in Europe. It is amazing how successful the West has been at civilizing their distant past with their rise. Much similarity can actually be drawn between the ancient Mongolians and the ancient Greeks in that both peoples tried to conquer the more affluent geographic south that was considered to be the cultural and intellectual center at the time. Like ancient Mongolians, ancient Greeks sucked at philosophy, astronomy and mathematics, which they had to borrow from the Four Ancients, in particular Egypt, Mesopotamia or what is now known as the Middle East, and India. This is contrary to the Western version of history taught to the whole world when they became a dominant player in the world. Their geometry was borrowed from Egyptian geometry. They had no concept of zero, nor infinity in mathematics, which they had to import from ancient India. In fact, they had to do away entirely with their way of counting and adopt a whole new system from India, the so-called Arabic numerals for ease of calculation and the expression of small fractions. No evidence exists for the European claim that the author/authors of the influential book Elements that has become an integral part of Western culture was/were Greek. In other words, Euclid is nothing more than a fictional character because nobody really knows with certainty who the author was. However, we do know that some of the most reliable evidence about the work comes from Egypt, not Greece, pointing to an Egyptian origin, or an Egyptian author/authors. But still, the West went ahead and managed to put a picture of a European-looking man right next to the author of the book that was actually found in Egypt. Similar thing may be said about the calendar, the architecture (copied from the Middle East and India), the oldest version of the Republic, which was dated more than 1000 years after the supposed fact, textual evidence that would be considered to be highly unreliable by any scrupulous historian. In fact, even that copied version has come under question because more and more evidence suggests that that copied version was created during the Renaissance, or even as recent as the last two or three hundred years by European scholars and historians alike to give themselves a more "sophisticated" and "civilized" ancestry. Unlike the histories of the Four Ancients, which could be easily verified by massive amounts of evidence, both archaeological and textual, from the time period in question and from the histories of other Ancients, the history of the so-called Greece lacks the kind of cold hard evidence needed for verification, nor can it be verified by the histories of other Ancients. The one major difference is that the Mongolians in Asia never went through the equivalent of the so-called Renaissance, which saw the creation of many so-called ancient Greek characters and "primary" sources, lots of which that Western historians rely on for the supposed ancient Greece have either already proven to be fake (i.e., created at much later time) or dated as recent as the last couple of hundred years when the West became more powerful. Now you know why Persia and what is called the Middle East today were mentioned rather extensively in Chinese historical documents, but such was not the case for Greece. (3/4) The construction of the Great Wall predated the Qin Dynasty, but not linked together the way you see it today, as is pointed out in the video. The Qin Wall is "gone" because "legend" has it that Marco Polo who visited China never saw the Wall. Why would Mongolians show the Wall to Marco Polo in light of the fact that the very Wall was used to keep Mongolians and others in the North out? I would like to learn about the evidence supporting the claim that the Qin Wall is gone. (5) Yes, it was in the Ming Dynasty that the Great Wall was being maintained and reinforced. And yes, I am sure some parts were built anew. Many historians call it "restoration/renovation" while others, mostly Western, call it "construction" or "building" of the Great Wall. If the same definition were used on many of the so-called old structures in Europe today, then they were no more than 100 years old, "constructed" or "built" only after WW2. Any structure that is less than 100 years old is not considered old. I don't get the double standard. (6) The Wall was built sort of as a territorial demarcation in the sense of us versus them, which means that the Chinese did not welcome outsiders to just come riding down south on a killing rampage. So, the Chinese did not like being ruled by foreigners. In other words, they hated foreigners ruling them. So on this interpretation, the misconception kind of stands. I know I am being nitpicky. (7) I do not know of anyone who thinks the Great Wall as an impenetrable barrier. So this is not even a misconception, I understand where you are coming from. The Great Wall was built not so much as a barrier but more as a sort of territorial demarcation, a bit unlike the great fence that American politicians are talking about building. (8) I agree on this one. The Grand Canal was more amazing. Perhaps, I am being overly critical, but I like your channel, that's why I am being a bit critical. I wouldn't be so critical if your channel were some comedy channel like Comedy Central or Fox. But then, many of your videos are funny.

Have a good time! Don't let the jet lag get you down. I know parks are everywhere, but still, there were some nice parks in China. I liked the one where there were some older people dancing. I think it was in Xi'an but I can't remember. I danced a little too and even talked just a tiny bit to a lady in Chinese. She came up to me after the dancing was over. It was nice. :)

I thought the intrusion of the Mongolians was more a political decision, based on the rebellion that also took place at the time. Basically some official(s) deciding that they would rather be ruled by high standing Mongolian(s) than some random rebel(s)? I regarded this as one of the most grounded military/political decisions in history. You gonna destroy that as well? :)

The "ancient" Chinese wall(s) is actually from the 17th century, that is why it is falling apart. It is not really old. And it was not used as defensive structure: there are entrances on both sides, but many entrances on the Russian side have already been closed. It would also be impossible to patrol such long walls with enough military force. The real old wall that dates from periods of war was made from clay and some parts of it can be seen from the current wall if you have binoculars. The Chinese just use this not so old wall as a way to prove their antiquity as a culture. Their whole history is a fabrication from the 17th century however. All the original annals and books were burned in that century and new "better" versions were created.
