My grandmother used to knit slippers for everyone in the family and they are almost identical the Simple House Slippers. Her pattern has more cast-on stitches for the garter section to give it a bit of a cuff. There was a woolen mill nearby that she would get free cones of very fine wool yarn. She would hold several together and it made for a very dense and sturdy slipper. Then she would finish them off with a decorative crocheted edging. ♥️

The Sophie scarf is my go-to one skein wonder. It works with any weight if you adjust your needle size. And the icord is integrated. It's so quick and easy. Perfect travel knitting.

This year I’m attempting to make ornaments for everyone fml and other little things… a set of coasters for my sister lol, dishcloths and such. It’s stressful but really fun to knit small projects that don’t take long. For some reason I always knit blankets and THEY TAKE SO LONG. I can’t believe I can complete a project in an hour lol I’m used to starting a project and it taking like… months. It’s so fun. Looking forward to some more ideas. Next year I am gonna start my knitting for gifts much earlier in the year haha.

Love the ideas. Thank you! Re your Francisca Hat: it is very nice, but i find it frustrating that a designer has the audacity to charge $7.99 for a hat pattern in a single size. Hat patterns in general are often overpriced when i can buy a graded sweater pattern for the same or only slightly more.

You could probably add a light layer of leather to the bottoms of the slippers after you knit them. Take a piece of leather w/ light/medium thickness and cut it into two sole-shaped pieces (sized accordingly, of course). Then, punch an even line of holes around the outer edge of the soles (probably about 1/3- 1/2 inch from the edge?) for easy stitching. Then use sturdy string/yarn and use a saddle stitch all around the sole while attaching it to the slipper. You could probably use different materials instead of leather, though. I know that this would make them harder to launder, but I mention all of this bc I hate wearing non-soled slippers.

  • @jvallas

I did this with a pair of the Bev Galeskas clogs (a *wonderful* pattern - maybe the designer name is Fiber Trends - an old but great pattern). I added the leather soles after I started getting holes, so that told me it would have been a great idea done beforehand. 😊

Anymore, I like knitting ornaments for people for the holidays. There are a bunch of free patterns all over the place, a lot of them use worsted weight yarn, and they're good for using up the last little bits of yarn. They also usually only take an hour or 2 to finish, so they can be worked on in short bursts throughout the day and still be able to finish them quickly.

I feel like boys are often unenthusiastic about hand knit gifts, but my 29-year-old grandson actually appreciates them (I think he likes the “kitschiness” of them) - and I gave him one of Arne and Carlos’ Christmas ball ornaments in 2021, and this year it’s one of 2 ornaments hanging on a plant in his house. 🤣 So I say yes to ornaments!

I’m so sorry that you’ve had such frustration with this part of the pattern Vanessa. You’re not alone! A lot of folks have the same difficulty in the beginning (me included-in fact each time I’ve knit that portion I fumble at some point). I have a tip if you’d like to just knit the sweater without the eyelets (it’s the arrangement of the YO in tandem with the w&t’s that create the issue, I think). What I did on one of my Felixes was eliminate the YOs and replace them with simple increases on either side of the markers. To work the increases on the raglan seam WITHOUT the eyelets: A full increase round (without wrap and turns) would look like this: *kfb, knit to one st before marker, kfb, SM* repeat to the end of the round So essentially you're working a kfb (knit through the front and back of the stitch) before and after each marker. For increase rounds with the short rows, just do a pfb (Purl through the front and back of stitch) on either side of each marker when you’re knitting the wrong side of the fabric. By eliminating the eyelets and placing your increases in the same place each time (directly before and after the markers) you’re more able to focus on the short rows. And be sure to put a little interlocking stitch marker in your w&t so it’s easy to see when you come back to it. I hope this helps! ❤️

@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Oh my gosh thank you so much for your help. I have given it one more go and am at the raglan increase. Yah But I will also try the version you have written above. Thank you again I really appreciate the assistance. I am a lone knitter and live in rural South Australia with no yarn shop close by. I rely heavily on you tube for support. I love your videos. Take Care

I find German short rows to be easier. Not sure if they’d also be easier with YO, but I bet they would. There are a lot of tutorials on the internet and KZread if you wish to look into them. Not often mentioned, though - you knit one more stitch than a w&t pattern indicates when beginning the German short row. I think maybe that dawned on me when I watched Purl SoHo’s video.

What is the app you are using? I’ve noticed it in your videos but am not sure what it is. It looks so much cleaner to use than Ravelry. I love Ravelry but it’s horrible to use on different devices.

My shirt is listing a variety of cast-on techniques in knitting. One of which being the ‘old Norwegian’ cast on. This is also known as the German twisted cast on. 👍
