She clearly said that’s what she does, not what you HAVE to do. It’s also highly dependent on how you ride, where you ride, and how long your rides are. I found myself refreshing my oil often before I even watched this video and I can definitely tell a difference before and after.

It's fun to learn your way around a bike! I worked in a shop for almost 8 years learning the in's and out's but it's a lot less complicated and technical than you think so it's worth trying 1 or 2 things at a time and building up confidence to know your equipment better. Maybe don't start with a fork service! -Christina

@@pinkbike agreed 100%. I remember I started with the gear cable. First just disassembled it and cleaned it as the rain and mud ruined it (no internal routing). Then replaced it. The moved to chain and so on. Its really exciting and a sense of relief that you can tune up the bike as and when required very quickly. But it still takes few hours as servicing never goes as per plan (for an amateur like me).

@@calebdavenport1231 A lot of resources. The Park Tools Big Blue Book is the best if you have patience. GMBN has some good how to and maintenance guides. Find the problem to fix on your bike and just search on youtube to fix it or just disassemble your bike and build it back. If you get stuck youtube has a lot of tutorials. park tools,Sethbikehacks, gmbn, MBRmagazine, are some good youtube channels filled with helpful content. Good luck! Its a fun hobby and learning to maintain your bike is not that difficult, it just takes time.

I don't usually devote an entire day to service the whole bike bc that's means I'm not riding! So I tend to pick a few things that need love at a time. Have had this bike for 4 months and JUST changed 1 set of brake pads and did a full bleed... so some things can go longer than others. But when you're doing your bolt check and tire pressures before riding (like we "should" all do but don't) that's a good time to see if anything needs attention later on -Christina

What I need is a bike mechanic that would be willing for me to pay him/her to show me how to do basic tune ups & common fixes. I got my bike online & all that had to be done to put it together was put the handlebars on, the pedals, seat. I watched a KZread video about initially putting your bike together where it said you should make sure you lube & tighten everything. Looked totally doable on the video. Not so much! I had to wait 2 weeks & pay a bike shop to fix whatever it was that I did wrong. I have had to take my bike in 2 more times for what is probably simple fixes after trail riding because that initial attempt for me went so wrong that I am afraid to try anything. Now I went on a trail where I fell, not bad, but moved my handlebars, seat position, & something is rattling, which is why I am watching this video. But there's no way I can do what is on this video! I am obviously not bike mechanically inclined which is costing me a nice chunk of change. Again it would be nice if I could just pay a mechanic to show me how to do basic things.

Literally purpose built thread-on tools that you tap with the mallet to release the lowers. It's how it's meant to be done since it's rare they'll just pull apart with no effort.

That is not efficient. Taking it before and after means the before season is redundant as it has not been used at all presumably for months. unless you have it on a trainer in the off season to use at home (but still most of the tune up would be redundant) take it before and mid season.

@@georgesalisbury5093 good, i've seen so many people give magura one star reviews because the lever stripped, One guy said his lever exloded, if they just used a torque wrench and searched up the torque levels that wouldn't happen. It's amazing that some people will be lazy and not check how to do something properly and then discount the company and say it was their fault 😂
