LOL! So much better than my how to video. Now people can see why i just drilled a hole in the case.

I just watched your vid, I think that's brilliant not to have to cut anything. I never thought of a 2nd antenna just popping out the side like that.

I think I read somewhere that you don't need to cut at all and that the piece will screw off. What gen is that dx6?
@SunnySoundrise

It's a DX6 G2. I can't imagine how, it was all one piece molded plastic.

I have the exact same radio that he has, the front cover of the gen 2 is all one piece.
So does this actually work? Contemplating on doing it to a Dx7

Tested today with a DX6 G2. Range test with stock antenna - 40 steps. With new antenna 70 steps and still strong signal. More than 50% gain.
Your links for amazon are wrong I think

You ever find an answer to this? I would also like to know...
You voided the warrenty by cutting up the case, you know that right. lol.

YES! Spektrum offers a 1 YEAR Limited Warranty and I was well past that. I forgot to mention that in the video, thanks for bringing it up. 👍
This is a diversity radio, so why you changed only one antenna and not both (the other one is on the handle)?
@robertgosz4281

The older models (G2, SPM6700) only had one antenna.

How much range did you gain?
@SunnySoundrise

I'd say about 40% - 60% increase in range. I lose video transmission before i lose radio signal now.

Sunny Soundrise How much mw do you use? Get a patch or a 16dbi rhcp antenna on eBay for $16.
@alanwylie8960

@@furonwarrior, modifying the antenna does not change the wattage output. If you have a 100mw module in your transmitter, (that's just one tenth of one full watt), regardless of what type of antenna you use, it will not change the wattage output from the transmitter module.
@furonwarrior

Alan Wylie That’s not true... antennas are measured in decibels. The higher the decibel, the more RF power output you’re transmitting, but it does sacrifice the “focal” length of the antenna. The higher the gain, the more likely you’ll get a brown out because the RF energy is more concentrated in one direction. With a patch, you would have to keep it pointed at the airplane or quad, but your range would be much further and you wouldn’t be wasting any RF energy.
@furonwarrior

With a 16dB patch antenna, your 100mw transmitter turns into 4.3W of RF power from the patch antenna.
Does this mod work for a gen 3 DX6 with diversity? Thanks in advance!

How much range did you gain?
When doing this, you need a Ham license to use this legally because you modified the originally antenna. Also, I thought there was two antennas with different polarities? lol
@alanwylie8960
4 жыл бұрын
Only if you were transmitting with anything with ONE WATT or more would you have to have a Hamm radio licence, modifying the antenna doesn't change the wattage output nor would it justify the need for a HAMM operator licence.
@furonwarrior
4 жыл бұрын
Alan Wylie No, it doesn’t matter how much RF output you are transmitting. The radio would need to be reevaluated by the FCC or by yourself if you have a license. A lower or higher decibel antenna does change the RF wattage output thus voiding the FCC ID. Regardless, I was just saying this to let others be aware. I don’t personally care what you guys do. But if you had a ham license, it’s honestly better to just get a UHF long range system for the transmitter instead of boosting your signal an extra 100 FT with a higher gain antenna and accidentally break your expensive transmitter. These radios can already fly way beyond line of sight without any modifications even for short/mid range FPV. Even 50mw is fantastic for 5.8GHz with a 5dB RHCP antenna for FPV. If you added a 6dB antenna to a 100mw transmitter, the antenna is outputting 400mw of RF power. If anything a patch antenna mod would have been better.
You are out of your mind. This never work.
