8 Days in the Wild Temagami Backcountry
Ойын-сауық
Go check out @madformaple to see their incredible adventures! Stay tuned for their perspective on this trip coming later in the year.
I’ve linked a “Buy Me a Coffee” below for anyone who would like to make a contribution that helps me cover the costs of making these videos:

When I met this group of guys, the first thing they said immediately after shaking my hand was “Hey do you want to join us on an 8 day canoe trip in a wild and rugged area?!” and while not knowing any details about the trip or really anything about these guys at all… I said yes! It’s always a little nerve-racking to embark on an adventure like this with people you aren’t completely familiar with, but luckily it worked out and I had the time of my life.
We took on every challenge that presented itself. Not only was the first week of July the hottest the planet has ever recorded but we were also in a fire ban hence no fires in this video. We dealt with bugs, literally blood, sweat and tears, and sometimes we portaged our canoes up to 10 times a day. It wasn’t easy by any means but my goodness was it ever worth it. Our hard work was rewarded by some amazing wildlife encounters, paradise tier scenery and some amazing stories and laugher shared around the campsites.
I was also able to cross off a long time bucket-list item by summiting the highest point in Ontario: Ishpatina Ridge.
We started at Gamble Lake and took the Lady Evelyn River to the beautiful Florence Lake. From there we crossed through Solace Provincial Park camping on Solace Lake and then up to Scarecrow Lake where we summited Ishapatina Ridge. Our last night was on stunning Smoothwater Lake and then we had to divide and conquer in order to get out of the backcountry, you’ll have to watch to the end to see what I’m talking about.
If you want to explore the Temagami backcountry your first step is to check out the legendary Hap Wilson @hapwilson7901 his guidebooks are second to none and can be found at: hapwilson.com
Another amazing resource is the Friends of Temagami @friendsoftemagami7036 “Temagami Adventure Planning Map” which is an awesome 42"x52" map with just about every little detail marked out. This map can be found at: www.friendsoftemagami.org
I’m not affiliated with either of these resources whatsoever, they’re just the top of the game for the Temagami area and I thought you should know.
All drone footage in this video has been authorized by Ontario Parks.
This video was filmed respectfully on the sacred land of the Teme-Augama Anishnabai.

Thanks guys! Such an awesome trip. Looking forward to your video when it comes out (winter 2024?) and looking forward to the next time we all get out together! 🤝
Epic trip! Thanks for bringing us along!
Hey Ben! So funny observation with that smooth greensnake, but its totally fine - thats there best impression of a peice of grass blowing in the breeze (hes just not quite doing it in the right spot lol) but this is typical behaviour - favourite species we have in ON.
Great video Ben! New subscriber here, wonderful drone shots and WOW so beautiful! Looks like you guys had a blast!😊
Awesome theatrics. you just raised the bar Ben
I wouldn't want to sleep in the same tent as you guys after eating all of those Chick peas!lol
I did much of this route several years ago, didnt get the chance to summit though. Super awesome video brother! Im planning some Temagami trips for next year already - maybe our paths will cross
Thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. I love the way you guys were so laid back, relaxed and enjoyed yourselves without having a rush-thru-it agenda. The drone shots were magnificent. The area breathtaking. Campsites awesome. As soon as I saw you cutting trees for the safety of others (and yourselves) I subscribed. What goes round comes round. A great group of happy, nice guys. Thank you for sharing, Ben.

My goodness thank you so much!! This comment made my day!
Good Lads. A real treat. Thanks for sharing.
The expression on your face when you walked out into the clearing by the tower atop Ishpatina portrayed a million words! The drone footage was beautiful, actually all the footage was phenomenal. That was wicked that you guys were able to divide and conquer to make exiting easier. I've never been on an adventure in Temagami. Hoping to make it a reality next year and this route looks like it would be mind blowing. Thanks for sharing, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Hahaha thank you my man! Such an epic shot but we may as well just be at sea level elev. no view at all😂
Aa great video, TY, Ben and crew!
That's awesome! It's still on my bucket list to get into Ishpatina Ridge. I started heading that way a couple of years ago and realized I wouldn't have enough time to get the hike in and get back in time for work, plus forecast said lots of rain coming in the following day so at Apex Lake I turned around and headed back to the truck. So close but as I said; it'll still be waiting there when I do have the time. Hopefully squeeze that trip in next year.

Hey I’m sure your boss would’ve understood if you pulled into work a few days late after summiting the province! Lol at least that’s what I think… In all seriousness you really should go for it when you get the chance, I’ve heard the view isn’t nearly as nice as Maple Mountain but in my opinion it’s just so cool to say you’ve been to the highest elevation in Ontario. Bonus points if you can get there on a clear sunny day, we didn’t have much of a view at all in the fog. Thanks for watching!

@@benbeauchamp16 yes, hopefully I get to summit both peeks next year. And in my line of work, I'd definitely get in major 💩 if I didn't show up to work cause I drive milk truck and cows don't take a days off or holidays. If I didn't show up, that milk could possibly get dumped costing the company thousands of dollars which would definitely cost me my job. So he definitely "wouldn't" understand. LOL! But, I will say the thought crossed my mind. Do I really need that job?? I could just live out here in the backcountry, right? Then reality kicked in and said; you better turn around. LOL!

Just looked it up, sounds like trees obstructing the line in a set of whitewater are referred to both sweeper and strainer. Regardless thank you for the love bro!!
