It's funny that my husband and I found we enjoyed the inside rooms more because we got the best sleep of our lives in those rooms. We did love the views from the balcony when in Alaska and a few other places, but the sleep in those inside rooms in the quiet spots on the ship are awesome.

A cabin with a door that’s a connecting cabin. The cabin party next door is heard easily.

Cabins under the buffet or any type of kitchen. Often in the kitchens they move food and baked goods around on large bakery carts (tall metal carts on wheels). I should've thought of that as I worked in a large professional bakery during college. Anyway they start baking and cooking very early in the morning as they prepare to open up the restaurants and buffet for breakfast. I will never make that mistake again!

Hi, guys.I unfortunately had 2 of those bad cabins. The one that got me was the 1 over to theater.I was laying down and didn't count realize the rehearsal and how loud it was. I didn't even go see the show that night. Basically, all week cause I already heard the show so there was no point going to see the show.😅

I always go midship. About 3/4 up the ship. I actually prefer to be near an elevator. Sounds crazy...I know. But depending on the ship it's not that noisy and very convenient

We booked a last-minute cruise to Alaska. We are in a cabin surrounded by public areas on 3 sides! One side being the stairway! We have requested a change - we will let you know in 3 weeks how it goes! :)

We were under bar on Alaska cruise and after bar closed it was non stop thumping. We were like what the heck. Went to look at like 3am. It was teens playing corn hole in empty bar. Arghhh

I enjoy the aft part of the ship, maybe because I'm an early riser and like to watch the ship dock. I do avoid the bow - too rocky in bad weather plus the theatre is right there. I don't really enjoy a cabin across the hall, I've always tended to get the door slamming cruisers. It only took twice for me to now book a clear space, early morning noise doesn't bother me. I would never let a ship pick a room for me.

All great tips. I agree. I like the floors 7 - 10. Middle of the ship. Some people aren't considerate of others. It's all about them.

Virgin Voyages had me right under the food court. I took a look at the floor plan and changed it quick!!! Thanks for the tips.

Under kitchens is a big one to avoid - similar to the gyms, but often tricky to identify on a deck plan. I look for big blanks in the plan near dining rooms and buffets and avoid cabins under (or over) those areas. I have transited the Panama Canal several times, and your advice to select north-side cabins for trans-ocean cruises applies in Panama as well!

We LOVE aft facing cabins! But we are early birds and don't mind the captain's "wake up call" as we are going into port.

I loved our aft balcony on the Carnival Pride! I made sure to choose a cabin with nothing above or below but other cabins. An unexpected plus was how quiet the hallway was, because the only people who venture back there are the ones staying there. No children running up and down screaming at all hours!

We stayed in an Aft cabin on MSC Seashore on deck 9 and it was awesome. Did not hear nay engine noise and the aft pool was on the deck below but there was no excessive noise from it either. Word of caution though there is a smoking section on deck 8 aft, but we had the room on the opposite side, 9285, so we did not have to smell smoke.

For trans Atlantic or Pacific cruises, I prefer inside cabins. With so many at sea days, a balcony seems like a waste of money.

As a newbie cruiser I thought it might be okay to get a "partially obstructed view". How bad could it be? Fortunately, I watched a video which showed my exact room number and a life boat was directly in front of the balcony! Thankfully, my travel agent was able to change my cabin to an upper floor. I can't imagine anyone purposely choosing a balcony room with a lifeboat in full view of the balcony!

Thanks for sharing. I just got off a cruise yesterday and I could hear the music from the club until 2 AM. Not super loud but enough that I could hear it.

I spent 5 years in a aircraft carrier in the navy and slept right under the flight deck. I can pretty much sleep thru anything now. Which decks would you want to avoid?

I made the mistake of taking the forward facing corner Haven suite on NCLs Breakaway. The cabin was huge and fabulous. BUT NCLs Breakaway class has all the elevators located midship . Every time we wanted to go up or down on the ship we had to walk thru the passaway half way down the length of the ship, crowded with the stewards carts, fellow passengers, luggage, and room service carts. It felt like the passageway was never ending NCL has corrected this issue in the new Prima class by putting all Haven suites together and one bank of elevators in the Haven only for Haven guests. Dont book the forward facing csbins on Breakaways unless you dont mind the long walks.

I have to choose adult only cruise lines. On other cruise lines, you can't choose a cabin in a child-free section. Hearing a baby or toddler in the next cabin cry for 20 minutes at 3 PM (wakng from its afternoon nap) and at 3 AM and 5:30AM ruins a cruise fast.

I had the under the gym and aft facing balcony cabins. Smh….never again! I also was below the deck that had the most of the restaurants. I think this was Carnival, the lido deck. Again a mistake…all I heard were boxes being dropped. My last cruise in August, I was like what is above me, across the hall from me and so on. I also have the deck plan in front of me while booking. Thanks for the video. Sending it to my friends and family.

Our favorites are decks 4 or 5 Mid-Ship. On our first cruise we were on deck 7 Aft and got thrown all over the place as we traversed the Chesapeake Bay in the winter. From that point on, it's mid and low or we don't go - our new slogan.

We ended up in a cabin under a public restroom and constantly heard water rushing from the toilets flushing. It made it hard to get to sleep so we chose to believe it was waves hitting the bottom of the ship.😂😂😂

Is there anyway to avoid the speakers in the hallways - trying to sleep in when they are doing the ship announcements and excursion calls over the PA from 7am onward was torture.
