I'm surprised nobody has brought up the fact that in the comics, Nick actually has three close friends from "the lads" (Christian, Otis and Sai) that are supportive, and pick up on his crush on Charlie very early on. In the show, Charlie mentioned that "some of the rugby boys are nice" but that was never really expanded, and they made it be that Nick felt completely alone in his friend group. I think having had included the three supportive straight lads would have added depth and not made all "stereotypical rugby lads" the antagonists

Absolutely. I'm turning 45 in a few weeks and this show has warmed my heart so much. It's just exhausting to see show after show, movie after movie, with LGBTQ+ characters putting a large emphasis on the problems and drama we can encounter in our daily lives, sometimes to the point that it almost feels like exploitation. But to see how Heartstopper portrays the lives of LGBTQ+ teenagers is heartwarming and I wish I could've had a show like that on TV when I was a closeted teenager in the 90's. It could've given me more hope and made me feel less like an outcast. I also didn't have a group of LBTQ+ friends (or even a single one), so to see that portrayed here is just heartwarming. I truly hope that more teenagers have this saftey net, or will have a safety net, with his positive representation of our demographic. And I hope the response this show is getting will result in more positive representation from now on, instead of all the drama and misery fictional LGBTQ+ characters are submitted to.

I only feel bad that Chris, Otis, and Sai didn’t really get any screen time because I feel like they do contribute something pretty significant to nick’s life (and they were casted to look perfectly like their comic counterparts). The fact that they called Nick’s crush before Charlie’s friends even called his _means_ something. Charlie saying “some of the rugby boys are nice” and not seeing them be nice to him or interacting with him made brought me out of it. Nick pointing out that they still just stood there made since within how it played out in the show but in season two, they’re going to have to establish those three for the conversation about how they bystander bullying or it’s going to make it feel like Nick is completely isolated from the team despite getting promoted to captain. Nick hasn’t gotten to be himself but he does have people that would except him that aren’t Charlie’s friends. I think the only other thing I didn’t necessarily jive with was making Charlie a bit worse at Rugby and making it harder for him to improve and not showing that Charlie _did_ fit in with the rugby boys - just not the ones that were active bullies. Charlie’s school life and social surroundings are so nuanced and I liked that there was care to mention that _most_ students liked Charlie and he could integrate himself into other settings if it weren’t for the intensity of his anxiety

Something that hadn’t been in the books was the fact that Mr Ajayi shouldn’t have been at Truham at all, he is the Higg's Art teacher who we meet at the Paris trip arc. The only main use of him is that he has a side plot in some extra stories with the Truham Physics teacher Mr Farouk. Also, Ben Hope was never actually in Nick's friend group, Nick only knew of him and thought him to be a bad person. Ben actually has a much larger presence in the series, as he basically drops out of the story after the confrontation at Harry's party. I think this was used to show how Charlie grew as a person, so it’s understandable but it is a difference. Finally, as obvious as it is, they couldn’t probably get the perfect actors with the perfect looks, so here are all the characters and their differences in looks! : Charlie Spring: Joe is an amazing actor and was perfect for Charlie in most ways, however Charlie originally had light blue eyes and tanned skin as oppose to stormy grey blue eyes and pale skin. Nick Nelson: I love Kit but there are a few differences in the looks even if the general character is there; Nick had dirty blond messy hair instead of Kit's ginger and well combed hair, as well as being portrayed to being larger than most others, while in the show he is bulkier but not particularly tall. Tao Xu: Tao DID wear his beanie often, if I’m remembering right BUT his hair was cut short of the sides instead of swoopy and William is very tall while Tao is the smallest of the friend group. Elle Argent: Elle is very accurate with the only real difference being her hair isn’t quite curly, it’s way in the comics. Of course, Yazmin is gorgeous and still very fitting, so Elle was still her amazing self. Tara Jones and Darcy Olsson: Corinna and Kizzy are spot on, I can’t say anything here! Love them too ofc! Tori Spring: very similar, Jenny is so good at acting but Tori is the same as Charlie in having a tan skintone This was a well put together video though, I’m happy about this! Edit: spelling! Edit 2: stormy grey blue is a perfect description

The slow burn, low stakes environment is not something im used to in shows, but it works so well in building tension! Although one idea I had, was if they had actually added in Oliver, they could have used him as a parallel for Charlie, showing how Charlie could have acted before he came out/how people treated him before he came out. For example, we could see Charlie babysitting his little brother and his friends; observing how pre-adolescents children handle love and relationships (his little brother’s friends also paralleling with Charlie’s), and maybe have some type of flashback? It would help to build the plot around Charlie, because the main way we learn more about him in the show is literally though gossip between the characters, and while that’s a good plot device, we’re forced to kind of imagine how it was for him? Because the one thing they say is “Charlie was bullied last year”, which I think we need to know more about. I’m also hyped for season two: [spoilers: expectations I want to see, which are derived from the graphic novel] I wanna see Issac potentially showing ace/aro representation, maybe touching on Charlie’s eating disorder and Paris trip!!!

One thing I still haven't seen mentioned is the way in which Tao found out that Charlie and Nick were dating. In the comics, Charlie told him himself in person, and expressed that he wanted to tell him and appreciated his protectiveness, but that made it more difficult. In the book they completely changed it, and let someone else tell Tao (I think it was Elle). I wish they kept that to the original comics as otherwise it can give off the wrong impression and caused tension between him and Charlie for no reason. Though, having watched this video, I can guess they might have deliberately changed it for the added drama.

I’m glad they get the show fleshed out more. I read the comics after watching the show and saw how much more time went to the other characters, e.g. the music recital, the rugby/sports day match, and the outside fight with Harry. and how Tao knowing Charlie is with Nick is already something they got out the way in this season. I want to see more Harry tbh, there’s an interesting few times he turns up later in the comics and suddenly acts differently to how we know him. That needs an explanation...

While I absolutely love Issac and his character Aled is definitely one of the more interesting characters in the osemanverse and it would have been cool to see hints of his journey and his relationship with Daniel in the show. Again, I’m not really upset about this change but I don’t exactly understand Alice’s reasoning for leaving him out, I think he’d probably be a very interesting character in the show, and I think it’d be cool if both characters were included.

Heres some more changes/diffrences form the comic to ghe adaption. There's also the lack of nicks 3 friends that talk about his and Charlie's relationship. I assume they were left out for time. I just think they were super good use to show that not all the rugby lads weren't all bad. They also added the whole game scene where they played the sports school. The whole sports day was added and the whole finding out the nick and Charlie are together dsoent happen in the show yet. It happens later in the comics. The crane game sene happens on a table in the comics. The beach scene hapens right after the theater scene in the books. There's a small refence to Nick's older brother during the coming out scene they skipped.( I assumed in case they wanted to omit the brother/didn't have him casted or just didn't want to have way too many open wholes for a character that dosent in the show that season) ben actually dosent show up that much I nthe comics either. The whole outcast thing is diffrent in the comics. Charlie becomes quite popular after the bullying stopped when some upper levle students got people to stop by defending him. Most scenes with Tara and Darcy are not in the comic. Including the locked in the music closet scene and the "triple date" scene too. That's all I can think of. Side note Alice also mentioned in a recent ama on Instagram that another reason she changed Aled out was because of his story. There wouldn't have been enough time for his story to be fully explored so she thought up of a new character that will have a more sutued juerny with the direction of the live action adaption.

@@dreamersball1003 Yeah that's true that the comic creator being involved can't make the show wrong. But what I meant it comes of rushed and a few other flaws so there are mistakes the show has made. Also, sometimes when adapting a comic or book to a TV show there needs to be people who understand TV series and how to adapt them. The writer being the scriptwriter for the show is great but someone else should have also helped them/ her is what I feel is necessary. Also, I personally felt the number of episodes they were given just felt too little to really tell this story. Nevertheless still a great story but I was expecting a very different TV series. Since after watching Young Royals, which is also on Netflix, I had very high expectations for Heartstopper as I love the comic a lot. So was hoping to see a similar delivery of the storyline but both are different types of stories so hence the differences. PS: I hope what I said makes sense and I don't mean any bad intentions towards the writers, staff or anyone else just wanting the show to be the best it can be for our lgbt+ audiences.

The swearing bought much more emotion to the characters feelings, also not to mention the fact that a lot of teenagers swear. I’m 13, and seeing the swearing on the show is the far from the worst thing i have seen on the internet, and In real life too. Also seeing it wouldn’t make me run around swearing or something. Maybe I am just mature enough to know it’s not right, but it really was my favorite part and I’m sad it wasn’t included. What could also help is bring up the maturity rating to pg-13 or even Tv-14, and letting parents decide if it’s appropriate for their child to be watching the show. I’m also speaking for other fans aswell when I say that we really loved the swearing for the emotion it brought. I’m really upset it didn’t get on the show, but hopefully some of the directors see my comment and change their mind because I promise you swearing could bring so much more emotion.

All the reactions i have seen are of older gay men 22-30 and all of them had the same emotional reaction as I did at the key points such as the first kiss, the feeling relatable, the coming out to mom scene. I dont think a "tween" 12, 13 year old is really gunna feel the same emotions cus they havent lived it yet.....like yes they will feel good being represented but I feel to them it could just be another show on Netflix. To use I feel it has more sentiment and value hense loving and feeling emotional.

They actually took some lines out of the books, like the he’s in year 11 when Charlie was told to sit next to nick and also the exploding pen scene
