Taiwan and China are two different countries. Taiwanese culture has a significant influence from Japan since Taiwan was Japanese colony for 50 years.

Taiwan the real Chinese culture since it escaped Mao's cultural revolution!! Hope to live there during the winter months. Hopefully it can keep the CCP out!

Better learn Chinese; few speak other languages. People here are polite, soft-spoken, and clean. I was impressed during my week in the capital city up north Taipei and the southern big city Kaoshan.

Explained very well. It's a shame they don't have a retirement VISA with income requirements. I'd be curious to know how much private health insurance runs. Renting doesn't bother me as I wouldn't live in the Capital city and would rely on the metro if I ever needed it. I'd prefer Taiwan over Thailand. I think Thailand's retirement VISA is a little foolish with the requirement of someone being 50 or over. If you have the income, what difference does it make? Are you concerned about China laying claim over Taiwan and an eventual war?

@ryan williams. Yes, I agree with you. There are a lot of countries that unfortunately don't offer that retirement visa! If you think Thailands retirement requirements are harsh, you should check out New Zealands retirement requirements, ouch! Coming out with that soon actually. That last question is a touchy subject but I don't believe the majority of Taiwanese are too concerned. Same could be said about the South Koreans with North Korea being a daily threat to them as well. I say this based on a documentary that I watched, just forgot the name of it, but it was interesting to see how the majority of them just don't put it to mind and live their lives normally, as we would. Perhaps you'll feel the same way living there long enough?

How much private health insurance runs? It all depends on individual's different health condition and needs, right? Only can I said is you won't feel got ripped off or unsatisfied with the quality of medical treatments.

The title is misleading. this is clearly not even 8 reasons, let alone "best" to retire in Taiwan. Its more of a great "this is a vacation spot" vlog. Almost every single thing you mention is something you do on vacation which is great, but seriously, how many people retire somewhere just to take a train because its cheap. There's got to be more to it.

There's another path to get citizenship if not married to a citizen, just need money though. Yes, with 6 million NTD investment (set up a business in Taiwan) to set up a business (have to least hire one employee) in Taiwan ! Few agencies in Taipei and Gaoxiong can help with that.

I lived in Beijing and Taipei. I married a Taiwanese and I own a 3bdr condo in Taipei. A few things to correct in this video. Food: most westerners will not like the Taiwan food. It does not come close to the quality and flavors found in Thailand, Vietnam, or mainland China. Street market food is generally very bad. Rent. Your comment at 7:39 is flat wrong. The government has no involvement whatever in price controls of rentals. The reason rentals are somewhat affordable compared to purchase price is due to large supply of rentals. Almost everyone ownes a rental unit in Taiwan . Many own more than one. Extra rooms, first floor, extra apartment, etc. there are huge supply therefore competitive pricing results. By the way. I rented 3 bedroom apartment in Beijings very good area for about 1/3 of the price of a 1 bedroom in Taipei.

I don’t think you can get healthcare there even if you are married to a citizen. Nor can you get citizenship even if you are married to a citizen.
