ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this KZread journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

Love the suggestion of using a stick for white paint. Very smart.
Putting the magnets inside the pans is my favorite one! So smart!

Why glue them when you can just... do nothing? The lazy way always wins 🤣
@moonmistmm
4 ай бұрын
You can buy ones with adhesive backings! That way I can just stick them to the bottom and not deal with glue or them being covered in paint.

I can't believe I didn't think of this when I was fighting to get glue to stick on strong magnets.

You can also use magnet roll, with sticky back, cut to size, I've used it for loads of art supplies,,even holding pins and needles for opening glue 😊

@@Pointebrushwhat size magnets do you use? I did that but the pans don't stick 😮😢
Oh I just had to have the swatch square punch out 🎉. I’m so tired 🥱 of having to paint new swatch cards for my palettes ❤
@Pointebrush
4 ай бұрын
Exactly! I hate having to repaint a swatchcard every time I move things around on my palette!
Wow, these were actually useful. My curiosity gets the better of me, I end up clicking a lot of these "hack" videos for art stuff and its frustratingly basic and NOT hacks. "Use water with watercolor!" Wow, who would have thought. The magnet INSIDE the paint pan is genius. I have the issue of them popping out of those tabs and having to re-sort them, the magnet is gonna be a game changer!

I’m so glad it was useful and lived up to the expectation 😮💨 With the magnets, just make sure they’re strong magnets like the ones I have linked so that they have enough strength to go through the plastic of the pan 👍
Margot- I started folllowing you at the 5k mark, now you're at almost 49k! Congrats!! Your art style is gorgeous, and I love the humor in your videos!! Keep 'em coming!

love the format! when i first saw you put the magnet in the pan and then pour watercolour on top my first thought was "heresy!" in the most shocked and impressed way possible.
The moveable swatches blew my mind
Thank you! Mini magnets IN the pans, - *smacks forehead - so much for all the double sided adhesive magnet strip cutting! And several other tips too!

I didn't see the white watercolor stick? Cool.
I love those mini magnets!! I used them to make my own custom watercolor palette last year and they work so well, infact the ones I got were so strong it took some umph to pull them apart haha

I had that problem too. I switched to even tinier magnets. Maybe half that size? They work beautifully.
Brilliant! I already use and love the soap dish brush holder, soap before masking fluid and carbon paper hacks. But how did I never think of just putting the magnet IN the pan, making modular palette swatches and using the phone for value studies! My art life just got so much easier- best spent two minutes ever!
Thanks so much Margot. Have a great weekend.😊

No more dirty slushy snow! At least not on the page anymore 😉
Wonderful video - thank you for these hacks! 💖I was wondering, what do you use to stick the swatches to the sheet of paper - so that you can pop them off and reposition them? I am worried tape would damage the paper in the long run because of its grain 🤔
Great tips! What is the book with the rose you took a picture of? I’m intrigued!
❤❤❤
❤ this video. Can the magnet harm the paint? Otherwise it is a great idea. You have showed some of these hcks before, but it is great to have them in 1 video and the other hacks are great too. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you for helping me on my art journey.

Hi, Margot! Darling video! Is your square puncher 5/8?
Ok, now I want some DS titanium white sticks…
@Pointebrush

A game changer! For a more opaque white than the DS, Caran D’ache’s Neopastel IIs are great
Hullo Margot, I did enjoy the magnet idea however I have so many pans full, I hate the thought of digging out the paint and refilling them! I will also say that two minutes is too quick, or maybe you just want people to rewatch several times? Good luck and I look forward to your next painting video. Have a lovely day.

Hello! Yes, it most certainly a brisk one! It was perhaps a little bit of a tongue in cheek clap back to some criticism I've been getting recently about being long winded. All in good fun. The next video I promise will be longer and more comprehensive 🤣
What did she cut out the color swatches with??? Is that a blood pressure or pulse rate checker.

It’s a square hole puncher
I would rather have this as a normal video. It's kind of hard to see what you're doing as well as look at the words at the same time. I realize that most people would have no problem, but I have a visual impairment. Following too many things on the screen is hard. So if this video were remade, I would definitely watch that video and give it a thumbs up.

Sorry to hear that. I’ve used it countless of times and it has preserved my brushes. It’s actually a tip I first learned through watercolor maestro Thierry Duval who swears by it too. Of course that doesn’t mean that it’s a miracle though. If you let the mask dry on your brush, or you use natural hair brushes for masking, nothing is going to save that from disaster.
