HOW I REVIEW:
As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.

Hi Bo, In answer to your question - both! The round-up or list video for the sling bags was really interesting and fun to watch. It's also great when you do a more in-depth single product focused video. Those in-depth videos have helped me make decisions about bags and EDC items to purchase. I think a round-up video every 3 or 4 months would give you time to test a lot of products and then make the video but keep your main focus on the single bag, in-depth reviews. What ever you decide know this sling bag video was really well worth the effort. Thanks for making such great content

I found this roundup style of video to be very useful, because it was very easy to see the differences between the bags - thus easier to evaluate the pros and the cons for one's own personal preferences. I would recommend that after you have done several in-depth reviews of a particular style of bag (sometimes in those reviews you even mention direct competitors and how they compare to each other) you make a roundup flash video. I own an Are day sling and use it as my main everyday carry, and am very pleased with it. One criterion I had when choosing my sling was wether it would fit a water bottle - the round shape of the Are allowed that without making too much volume an issue, where more flat-shaped slings didn't seem to make that requirement possible. and by the way, great video!

Hi Bo! To comment, yes I like both format of the video, especially when you compare between the bags. It makes it easier to know which suits us. On the other hand, I still prefer the detailing video for each product, as you always list out all the nook and crannies for the bags.

Hey Bo, I really liked this round-up, but my preference is the single video. It makes it easier for me to search through your videos if I am looking for a specific bag, rather than going to the round-up. Also I feel like with a single video we are more likely to hear specific sings about the day to day of a bag. Great video though!

It seems to though that sling bags are just fanny packs worn differently so as not to look uncool .. This has actually peaked my interest in having a "sling bag" rather than my small messenger style pouches/bag because of how tight it is ob body and it looks like a mini backpack.. Great video btw! More power to the channel 😁👍

I ride a motorbike daily and have grown tired of using my large backpack, so I started using my swim bag. I find my swim bag is too soft and the rope straps are way too long so it slumps way down my back. I am looking at a MEC Pod Sling Pack today. I usually just carry a 20oz starbucks mug, large wallet, and a IPhone 7+. Occasionally I carry my lunch in my bag. Your video is so informative! Thank you!

Oh man, I did not know someone can talk about sling bags so well. Nor can I say I could imagine use cases of a sling bag like you did so well. If I am not carrying a backpack and want something small I usually go with a messenger style small bag so sling bags have never had a place in my usage. And on hot sunny weekend runs when I need to carry a lot things I use a fanny pack which is similar to 'The Axis' but a bit smaller. I think the concept for Mission Workshop is great if someone wants to live one backpack lifestyle. Separating and using parts of backpack as and when we need is great. I end up carrying a daypack and a smaller bag in my duffel or suitcase when I travel which not only wastes space but also is not that easy to pack and travel with. Talking about longer and round up videos. I think you did it really well seeing that you can't do much with sling bags I mean an in-depth video of every sling back would really have been either really small or very boring. This comparison was really well done. IMO, the in-depth indiviual video for backpack is good but not for small accessory like bags. Being said that a round-up of all the review videos you have done this year by the end of this year would be really great to watch. I mean after using all those bags you would have a lot of things you want to talk about in comparison with the bags you reviewed later, that would be insightful I guess. Maybe consider that.

I suggest you do both a round up video and a single video on the product you are reviewing. With a round up video people can get an idea of what sling bags are and the single video can be in more depth of one particular product. But either or is good. Knowing that you are making the video I can trust that the products you showcase in the videos are really good. 😊

Hey Bo. The list style video is pretty convenient to have everything in one place, although the indepth videos are also cool. Either is fine with me. I fully agree that sling bags shouldn't be too large, preferably 8L or less. My preferred sling is the discontinued Crumpler LLA Waist Pack. It has a padded rear compartment for phone or small tablet, large main pocket, and small zippered front pocket, which makes it perfect for organizing bits and pieces. It has a quick release buckle and can be used as either a waist bag or sling. One bag which looked great but has turned out to be less than useful is the Cote & Ciel Riss. It looks gorgeous and is very nicely made. But it's quite large, bigger than the usual sling, and has a relatively thin strap, so it digs into your shoulder if you load it up. There's a thin cross-strap intended to stabilize the bag on your back, but it doesn't work as well as you might think. The Riss has a padded section for a large tablet or small laptop, and a main section with an odd expanding concertina design which is an odd shape. Don't even think about carrying bulkier solid objects in the main compartment like a DSLR because it will make bulges, and will unbalance the bag when set down. I can imagine using it for meetings where you only take a small laptop or tablet and documents, but not really for general use. I so want to like this bag, though, it's gorgeous.

Great video, Bo! To answer your question - I enjoy both styles of video that you've done. Both the single, in-depth reviews and the list-style videos. The list-style seems like a great format for discussing simpler items, such as these slingbags or perhaps accessories like wallets. The in-depth reviews are great for what would be a more significant purchase, such as a full-featured backpack.

Just got the Xiaomi sling on a vacation in China. I generally love it, but have some complaints - mainly, the strap could just be a little shorter on the shortest setting and the compartment arrangement is a little suboptimal - if you fill each of them with items (like passport, phone, wallet, keys, some moisturiser, a water bottle, and maybe a light jacket/sweater) the bag stuffs up real easy, and I often wish for just a tad more capacity. If you travel real light though (just your EDC essentials), it's great! Plus overall quality is outstanding and it is ambidextrous by design - meaning the strap and zippers can switch to both sides. Also, one key advantage the Xiaomi Sling has over most of these bags: it is DIRT CHEAP - CHEAP AND CHEERFUL TO THE MAX! The Chrome bag is 110 USD, the AER is 80 (I think), maybe the Alpaca and the KP Sling are below 50 EUR - but the Xiaomi is just 69 CNY, that's just 8.5 EUR!!!

@@hgchcxdxx Yeah, same here. I am happy to have the Xiaomi Sling as a minimalist bag for only the most essential EDC for a day out in the city - as opposed to my larger Timbuk2 Messenger or a bigger backpack. What I meant is that, just sometimes, I wish it would just be a tad bigger, or the compartmentalization would be a little more optimized or a tad larger. For instance: it fits my 750ml Mizu water bottle perfectly, but then the small pockets within the main compartment become borderline unusable for say my iPhone 8+, my super slim wallet and keys. I made it a habit of carrying an extra cloth tote within it, for those instantaneous shopping occasions where I would need additional storage. I still love it! Great small bag and for the price it is an absolute winner!

I'm looking at a sling bag as I would love the functionality of a purse but not the shape. The typical purse is meant to go over a single shoulder, but I find shoulder bags to be really impractical as they slip around or off your shoulder and you often don't have complete freedom of movement as it would slip around or off. However, a backpack is just too large for a water bottle and a umbrella as well as my edc and I really dislike those tiny backpacks. I think they're for 50+ but I'm 15 so... Taking my affection for techwear and activewear into consideration, a sling bag is clearly the best option. It's out of your way on your back when you don't need it or on your front when you need its contents or theft protection, it fits really well into that techwear aesthetic (provided it's the right one of course) and they stay put. So thanks a lot for the roundup. Maybe you could do single reviews abd short roundup videos where you summarise your reviews and link to them.

I have the KP Sling and as you've mentioned, if you wear it on your right shoulder, all compartments face towards the ground so you can't open the bag without pointing the compartments towards you, or stuff will fall out. And because of its teardrop shape, any tablets larger than the iPad Mini won't fit! This is so frustrating, since my Kobo Aura One would fit if the top of the bag is *JUST* 2cm wider!!! I've now switched to the Dayfarer Sling for this reason. (BTW I found it strange that Dayfarer Sling is not included here as it's a German brand lol) I also have the Alpaka Go Sling Pro. IMO it's far more versatile than Air Sling which is too small to be useful.

I prefer my loop back from Marimekko. The model is called Korttell and I chose it because I'm a rather big person and many of the bags I tried to look too small on me. The bag has a volume of 5.5L and is perceived to be very spacious. Usually I use it back and forth to school with my IKEA glass lunch box and my EDC, but on a couple of occasions I have used it as a weekend bag, which in retrospective might not be optimal. The quality of the bag is high, albeit not as rugged as my Misson Workshop Rambler. / Alex

I have one main rule for a sling bag. It needs to be big enough to hold my iPad (not the 12" one). Most of the bags in this video are too small and I would probably not purchase any of them. However, I liked the mission workshop bag due to its ability to be added to their Arkiv system. I think Peak Design makes a good 10L sling and Aer has a larger one that carries a 13" laptop. I currently own the Pacsafe Vibe with Exomesh. It was purchased before my trip to Barcelona. It was great to have and had all the safety features you'd want. Not the most stylish, so more utilitarian. Great Video. Cheers.

Hey Kevin. The term "slingbag" is rather broad in it's definition. I personally only like these slingbags/fannypacks. bigger slingbags/messenger bags just add too much weight on just one shoulder. Therefore anything bigger than 10L needs to be a backpack for me.

I like both types of video. sometimes a genre of bags can be covered in one video with just a focus on their differences and what they are like to carry. Other times a bag deserves more of a focus - especially when it has a lot of unique or interesting features.

Hi there Bo, I personally prefer your in-dept video because I enjoy your thorough evaluation. But ideally I think you should do both roundup and in-depth video, so your viewers can diverge and converge their options. But since the roundup videos takes time - how about your break it into several videos? If I'm not mistaken, you reviewed 9 to 10 sling bags on this roundup. How about reviewing 3 or 5 of them per video? That way you can do semi-in-depth review while allowing your subscriber to diverge their options. Keep up the good job man, Salam from Indonesia

The Aer and Heimplanet slings are intriguing! Their packability is appealing too. I’ve got the peak design 5L sling and while it’s lovely to use it’s not very packable for travel. I'd love to find a 1.5-2 liter sling that could fit: a Lumix GX85 with a small prime lens, my wallet, phone, keys, small notebook, and doggy bags. That would be perfect. Throw in some small organization and man. Anyone have thoughts on this? Usually I use a Topo Micro Rover for my "pocket items" (wallet, keys, etc) but if I want to bring my camera along just in case something interesting presents itself, I'm usually taking the Peak 5L sling, in which case it suddenly becomes, "well, I may as well take a bigger notebook with me, and maybe this or that, and maybe an extra lens..." the 5L sling is perfect for times where I do want to carry a bunch of stuff in a small package, but when I'm just taking my dog for his walks around the neighborhood or traveling with my Minaal backpack, I don't always want something with such a big footprint. Granted, I am 100% overthinking this, but that's what bag people do I guess! I'd love to hear your thoughts if anyone has an opinion on this sort of tiny EDC set up. (And for those times where I'm going to be out most of the day and need to do some work etc, I just carry the PD 20L backpack. I can fit the camera, laptop, and all kinds of stuff in there without a second thought. But again, it's a backpack, which means: "okay, I am officially bringing everything with me.") I did recently pick up the Trakke banana bum bag which is LOVELY, but it's just a hint too small to carry the camera comfortably. It becomes overstuffed with that thing in it, and that's kind of a bummer. Unless I took the lens off, but that feels like an odd choice. "Oh, don't mind me with my wallet and keys and notebook and this camera body and also this lens! Just wearing a fanny full of way too much stuff!"

I'm in the same boat mostly. Have a g85. Would like to carry it with a spare lens, wallet, phone. But a dedicated camera sling like the peak design will retain it's shape when empty which makes it only useful when carrying a camera. Don't want to be forced to own 2 slings. There's got to be 1 that can be comfortable wether or not you are carrying a camera.

Thanks, Peterson. For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals. For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.
