In this podcast, we expand the upwind race geometry series by talking about the ladder rungs, the rhumb line, and building leverage.
With a clear picture of the risk/benefit tradeoff of various upwind strategies, sailors who understand the geometry can make the right call for any given conditions, as well as analyze poor performances with a better understanding of where the race went awry.

Best description of leverage I've ever heard.
Always good stuff. Thanks!
Scarlet is the blue boat? Fantastic info despite my pedantic comment.
I'm new to sailing, and haven't had my first race yet. I just found your channel last night, and I'm enjoying the videos very much! I'm a little confused by the ladder-rung illustration though. Isn't a left-shift a header for Frankly Scarlet on a starboard tack? Wouldn't she have to tack to take advantage of it?
