I watched the NCRA since its inception in the early 1970's with the 100 inch cars we called Super Modified. Nobody in the country raced anything like them. They were basically a stretched sprint car with no engine set back and a small displacement (312 cu in max) carbureted gasoline engine. The cars weren't fast by most standards but they put on great shows. In the early years, the series was dominated by Harold Leep, Frank Lies, and Emmett Hahn. In 88 they went to 410 sprints and had some great shows. In later years they also had a 360 class. The downfall of the ncra 410's was a rising cost and the few really good cars and drivers that had the money wanted something bigger, like the WoO. The NCRA is still alive today with a 360 and a 305 division. I doubt there will ever be another era like the 90's, though. There were really good cars and drivers, but nobody could beat Gary Wright. After this, he dominated 360's for another 10 years or so. When he retired he said it was his age, but personally, I think it was money. There is a time when we all need to think about retirement and I just don't think Gary was the kind of guy that was happy just running for a pay check. In one year he went from the top to not being a front runner. To me that had to be equipment. I would love to see something bring back weekely racing in Oklahoma. After 10 years without it, most of the fans have found other interests. It's kind of sad.
