Hi guys, in a such nice classic boat, you do not screw each device separately on walls or ceiling, but rather, you should fix a 5 cm thick and 10cm in width a nice wooden rim with two hidden screws, you also drill under it a drive for electrical wires, then you can fix on it elegantly your devices... 🙂

Remember that not all vessel have AIS and, for your peace of mind, you should learn how to plot an object seen on the radar so to obtain CPA (closest point of approach), speed, course and other useful information, regardless name, flag etc. which are pointless. (Provided your Radar does not have an ARPA system included) This manual excercise is also very stisfaying, similar to astronomical navigation and coastal as well. The beauty of navigation.

Hi guys, our AIS transceiver also shows target vessel's current and projected COG(green), shipping lanes and separation zones(purple) our COG(red) and of course CPA, we tend to use the AIS in conjunction with the radar set at 12 miles, particularly at night, and of course in fog and poor viz. If you're not in/crossing the shipping lanes generally commercial shipping shouldn't be a problem, they're normally doing in excess of 12 knots on a very steady COG, it's the smaller fishing vessels and other pleasure craft that require more attention and evasive action, I will never tack or gybe the boat to avoid commercial shipping, rather just make small incremental course adjustments and sail trim on the tack I'm on, obviously approaching vessels require more expedient course alterations, vessels traveling in the same direction are far less of a threat, however fishing vessels etc operating outside of the shipping lanes regularly alter course, often ignoring the rules of the road and not responding to being hailed on the VHF, also a lot don't have AIS, or it isn't turned on, I know from personal experience that fishing vessels do not want their positions visible as opposition vessels will figure out pretty quickly if you're on fish or not, and come to your co-ordinates if you are, this is a big problem so from my experience they're a way bigger threat to your vessel. Fair winds, Elena, instead of coiling your lines' tails by hand, coil them with one hand and the winch in a under over figure 8, it's so much faster and easier.

Nice video! Are you familiar with "the relative motion line" RML? Its basically if a ship holds the same bearing over time say 10 minutes if neither vessel changes course or speed there will be a collision! If the other vessel moves forward in bearing it will pass ahead of you and if the vessel loses bearing it will pass behind you. You can take notice of this from 20NM.

Does the AIS provide for a way of ocean-going tugs to indicate if they are towing a barge or not? The day shapes and lights they display are not always visible until much closer than planning which way to accomodate the passing/crossing allows. And what type of rudder do you have? Is it a balanced or semi-balanced rudder, or just skeg-hung? How is the tiller loading on a powered tack or hard sailing?
