75 Years of Capitol Records: A 5 Minute Drum Chronology - Kye Smith [4K]

Subscribe: bit.ly/2eSl32P
Capitol Records are celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2017 so I thought it would be a cool opportunity to put together the widest spanning drum chronology in both time and genre to date! All releases in the chronology are part of the 75 albums that Capitol Records are reissuing on vinyl.
Filmed in Hollywood, California.

Very cool! But did anyone notice he didn’t actually trigger the snare during during Freddie Jackson’s “Rock Me Tonight”? Also, The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” doesn’t have the crash just before the legendary snare hit that kicks in the song. You can hear Brian Wilson make very clear he doesn’t want this when listening to him produce the sessions for the song. Still, a neat video, all the same.

everythingsuck In one of the interviews with Glynn Frey on the Eagles documentary, he quoted (forget who said it) one of their label heads, and he said "this would be an amazing business, if it weren't for the artists". It seems their goal of eliminating "bands" and musicians who actually compose their own shit is long complete. Now, all they have to do is share a percentage with a poptart here and there, buy lyrics for their talentless auto tuned hack and horde the rest. There are still some great under the radar bands, but all the mainstream shit that actually gets air time and recognition is soulless garbage.

To people asking about missing artists: these are the 75 albums that Capitol Records chose to reissue for their 75th birthday. You'd have to ask them why a certain artist isn't included. Personally, my only real gripe is that "Barracuda" was not on that Heart album. I'd love to have seen a Gentle Giant album included (though Capitol might not control the rights anymore).

You got something wrong. Heart's 'Barracuda' was a single on the Portrait label, and was released in 1977 not 1985. They did have their self-titled album on Capitol in 1985. The big single from that record was 'What About Love?'

Really enjoyed the versatility and songs picked for this! Epic! And I also agree... a Beach Boys comp would be awesome

Oklahoma credits should probably go to Richard Rodgers since he was the main composer, of the tune in question and for the entire soundtrack.

As you showed the album Heart, I noticed that you played Barracuda. That song was on a different album, 1977's "Little Queen", and was released on the Portrait label.

As much as I absolutely love your other chronologies, this is the favorite of mine. Sticking with the record label theme, is there any chance you could do a Drive Thru Records chronology at some point?
