75 year old Messerschmitt BF109 E4 flys again

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The only surviving Messerschmitt BF109E-4 still flying. It was shot down and belly landed in a field during the Battle of Britain in 1940. It is currently with the Russel Aviation Group, Ontario Canada.

What an awesome bird...! a terrible war machine ! Just consider this : the Me-109 was already flying for the Luftwaffe in 1937, before WW2...and it saw uninterrupted action on all fronts right till the end in '45...! It was of course improved over the years, but basically it was the same design of 1936 ! What an achievement, Herr Willi Messerschmitt !

And although I usually despise (mostly crappy) music messing up the real sounds, this one is a very noteworthy exception as the soundtrack just adds to the dramatic filming perfectly! What a fantastic restauration of this famous plane! Corgi by the way did great die-cast version of this very plane some years back and you bet I have (more than) one in my collection :-) Thanks for sharing this video!

5:04 pilot has damn good skills to land this aircraft that safe on a bumpy grass strip. The Bf-109 is very hard to control on the ground during start and landing due to the position and the small distance of the main landing gear. An unexperienced pilot would have lost control and rolled it over, as it happened to many young Luftwaffe pilots in the last months of the war... This aircraft doesn't forgive any mistakes, especially while rolling on the ground at high speed.

Hi all, the reason for the "goofy" music is that this is a recut of a japanese DVD of a british documentary. Oddly enough there are entire takes of this aircraft in flight where all you hear is the sound from the chase plane, a cessna or something commercial like that. On the ground too, there were scenes where there was lots of wind noise and one or two takes with no sound at all! Very unexciting and uninspiring, unlike the "goofy" music I chose lol.

The "music" is the sound of the engine, at start up, take off, flying, high speed passes, landings, etc...It is not some soundtrack layed over the engine, it is not some airshow announcer telling you what you are hearing, it is the engine that is the music...Far to many of these vids are ruined by this...

+Daniel De Rudder Not the only one in flying condition. There are now six (2 E models, 4 G models) in flying condition worldwide, with two more almost ready. Plus there are another ten or so in various stages of restoration to fly in the future. Since the German engines are so rare, the flying Bf-109 population will probably remain low until new technologies make it less expensive to craft engines and parts to keep them flying. New engines are technically possible, but we have not reached that point yet.

Obviously surviving orginal planes that actually flew or were at least made during the war are going to be more valuable, but I see nothing wrong with reproducing modern replicas from the original design. With modern technology I would think that's definitely possible, and also definitely worthwhile for famous planes of which no flying examples survived.

I am in two minds as grace this cretinous remark with a reply but I feel I must. To utter such stupid provocative nonsense is an insult to the men who fought on both sides and the restorers of this excellent flying memorial, both it terms of the human cost of conflict brought about by manifest evil such as nazism and the genius of those like RJ Mitchell, Willy Messerschmidt and Kurt Tank et al whose prodigious talent produced these machines.

shaggy feng It wasn't really Standard until the BF-109E, I mean the BF-109B was a really horrible aircraft. I mean it couldn't keep up with the Polikarpov I-16 and the newer versions of the I-16 which featured Shvak 20mm and new engine proved fatal and how outdated the BF-109 really was. I mean the BF-109 did partake in the Spanish Civil War but just like the Panzer I it also had superior competition

The 109 was a good plane but not able to stay over London and southern east England over 10 minutes cos of fuel problems. That's why the Battle of Britain was won by our RAF by shooting down most of Henkiel HE 110s without their escorts.
