A video shoot at my studio at Cablefactory. I am telling in Finnish about my next exhibition at Pihatto Gallery Lappeenranta, Finland 29.8.-19.9. 2019

"I am Maaria Märkälä. I am a landscape painter. My studio is at the Cable Factory and the big landscapes are painted here in my studio. The smaller paintings I have painted in the nature- in the landscape.
I'm thinking that the man should be more present in my paintings. So I added some skin color there. And because there are quite a lot of nasty things in life, to have some balance, there's something festive and bubbling . For example, drinking champagne and sparkling wine feels tingling in the skin. In these my newest paintings I have tried now to combine the breathtaking skinfeel, sparkling of wine, the blooming of rhododendrons and celebration of life.
Now its is up to viewer to assess how successful I as an artist have been in this venture. I have spent many happy moments while painting these my paintings, and I hope that it is transmitted to these paintings.
I have once had portraits of Siberia at the Lappeenranta Art Museum. it was a long time ago and I don't remember exactly a year.
I had already for a while been thinking I should one day come back to Lappeenranta to have an exhibition here. I am having the family roots here. My father is from a nine-children-family from Lappeenranta. Many might also remember my Grandfather, who was a market salesman at Lappeenranta Marketplace for several years.
I am pleased that the Pihatto Gallery will be re-opened.
