Glad I watched this review. I have the megapro automotive ratcheting screw driver and thought that the play where the shaft meets the handle was a possible defect. Thanks for showing me that it is in fact inherent in the design. Great review overall 👏

Really appreciate the videos as someone getting into automotive mechanics later in life (30). I didn't grow up doing this so I haven't accrued a lifetime of truck branded tools. I have some, but most of my stuff is from online or the stores. You have really helped me find quality tools with out breaking the bank. I'm currently working on my degree and certifications. The guys in my class are going crazy over the tool trucks. Most of them won't buy a tool that doesn't come off a truck.... So they end up borrowing my tools because they can't afford everything they need. Then end up shocked they worked just fine for some reason despite the lack of tool truck badge. They don't realize that the tool trucks don't have a monopoly on quality. The best part about my tools in my opinion is I own them. And your channel has saved me a ton of money... I admit when I first started getting into it I was like I guess I'm going to have pay out the nose to get quality tools. While my tool collection may not be very impressive they get the job done, offer value and quality.

Just got my snap on screw driver today it feels good in the hand and look forward to using it for years to come. My father had one and I always thought it was a nice one. although 70.00 is a bit steep i know it will serve me well and ill think of my father every time I use it which is priceless to me

Thanks for the hands on video. I decided to go with the Megapro due to the convenient bit storage. With 12 slots on board, I can carry most everything in the handle rather than misplacing loose bits.

My Wife was a Service Manager in a Honda Dealership Shop 20 years ago. The Snap-On guy gave her 3 of those screwdrivers over a couple of years at Christmas. I use them everyday. Still work like new. (I do miss getting those Snap-On Calendars)

I don't have this Snap On screwdriver, but I have one similar with a rubber overmolded handle and a removable shaft. I've had it about 12 years and in almost all cases, I will dig through a bag full of perfectly competent screwdrivers to find and use it. While it is without a doubt one of my favorite tools (that's saying something considering it's just a screwdriver) I wouldn't pay that much for it. I received mine as a gift from a Snap On employee.

I like the rubber, but prefer the old style snap-on hard handle for its threaded cap. I'm definitely going to try the megapro for the better bit storage.

I've not tried either of these, but I don't love how the bits are loose in the Snap-on handle. I think that would be really annoying. I like the bit storage of the Megapro.

I've been using the snap on one every day for over 10 years without any complaints!

I've had the snap on in the strait and bent handle versions for over 20 years and have never had a problem with either one. I use them almost 4 days a week. Back when I got them they were 50 bucks each. I'd buy them over again. You can fit about 10 bits in each handle. I feel they they were worth the cost.

I watch your videos regularly but this is my first time commenting. Your videos are EXCELLENT! Im sure those who are loyal to Snap on will pay that fee. I am willing to pay more for something made here (USA.) $71.50 is tad much. I have never used the mega pro but have strongly considered buying one because I have used my buddies and it had a great grip and i liked the storage system. I currently have the milwaukee ratcheting multi screw driver with the longer assortment of stalks on the screw driver. Finally, to each his own. $71.50 seems alot to me.

I had the snapon one the racheting action went out after about 20 years. Not one complaint.

i got mine from my grandpa, and after 30 years of heavy use, the mechanism is starting to get a little bit hanky. i got the repair kit free of charge for it. i have nothing but good words for snap-on screwdrivers.

Same here... I tried to buy repair parts from Snap-on and they just sent me a new unit. Glad to have it back. It's one of my favorite tools.

I just purchased the Megapro automotive ratcheting from Amazon for a bit over $30. I love is so much, I went all over my apartment tightening screws just to use it. It feels amazing to use and the ratcheting mechanism is extremely smooth. I'm 43, and I feel like if I take of it my grandson will be using it one day.

I love my Snap-on screwdriver and I would recommend it to anyone who could afford it, or who could get it on a serious discount like I did. I haven't had any problems with it yet. I haven't tried the Megapro, but it looks pretty nice! I should mention that I'm from Canada, so liking my Snap on isn't just a country of origin bias.

I love the Megapro Automtoive so much I bought 2 more, one for my mobile tool kit, one for home, one for my car kit. Also plan on gifting one to my dad for his b-day. Highly recommend it, I've bought several ratcheting screw drivers in the past and they were all pretty mediocre or just bad. The bit holding system is fantastic, one thing Real Tool Reviews did not mention is that the bit holder system pivots so when you are pushing down on the end it'll spin so you don't chew up your hand. The only problem with the Megapro is the lack of knurling, you can fix that with a couple minutes and some sandpaper, doesn't look the prettiest but it works great. The bits hold up pretty well to use

I have the snap on one I purchased like 20 years ago and still is going strong. By far my favorite driver.

The new Facom ACL.2A has some interesting features I've never seen on a ratcheting screwdriver before: it doubles as a stubby and t-handle and has a nice bitholder!

SNAP ON IS OVER PRICED ON EVERYTHING, IT'S JUST RIDICULOUS.. THEY CAN KEEP THEIR SHIT... That's how i feel about it...

Maybe on some stuff but there stuff last longer and performs consistently especially there hand tools. I know there is stuff cheaper with no R&D and reduced production costs hince that's why its cheaper along with cheaper materials. When I was younger I used the cheap stuff and Craftsman as I turned wrenches for a living and had more voluminous use of tools I appreciated SnapOn , Mac etc more.

I was looking for a torque wrench and Snap On wanted 600 bucks, what are they nuts.... I think not....found one for under 100 and it works just fine...

I have that torque wrench if it is the digital torque + angle.... Which is the only one that I know that goes for 600. The ONLY reason I have it is because I'm currently a student and got it for 360. This does make it easier than using a click type torque wrench and an angle gauge... I'm happy with my purchase, but if I had to pay $600 they could have kept it.

True , this SO is twice the price of what is considered the world"s best ratchet driver - & probably correct because this Megapro is a great driver :]

I have both of these screwdrivers. Both are fantastic. The Snap-On ratcheting mechanism did break on me, but after 22 years of use. Their warranty/customer service was outstanding as I had no problems getting a replacement. They sent me a brand new one and told me to dispose of the broken one. I have only had the Megapro for a few months, but I really like it. The ratchet mechanism is extremely smooth and I love the amount of drivers you get in the handle. Both are very comfortable and easy to use. If money is an issue, go with the Megapro and call it a day. If you are using it daily, like in a shop, go with the Snap-On.

I love my snap-on standard soft grip. I recently tore it down and filled it with royal purple max film. I plan on buying the stubby as well.

I own that exact snap on screw driver. I would buy it again. and I would recommend it to everyone. I love the square handle because I can set it down and it won't roll away. I have also dropped it in a few different fluids. it still works fine. the nurling makes using it while covered in oil or grease very easy.

In my family we have the snap-on version just like in the video and it is one of the best screwdrivers ever. We have had it for around 20 years and it still works.

I've had the Snap-on for about 5 years now, zero complaints. I use rubber cleaner to wipe it down, and the body is a good as the day I bought it.

i agree. all old school snap-on screwdrivers are like that. the new ones probably are too. i just can’t say for sure.

I have had that model snap-on screw driver for about 30 years. I can hardly believe how strong that fine tooth ratchet gear is. It also runs so smooth that it continues to ratchet even as the screw is backed almost all the way out. The bits that came with it are extreamly hard and have little ridges at the tips of the philips that help it grip under pressure. Yes they are rediculosly expensive, but I feel like have gotten my money's worth over the years.

I like the Matco screwdriver. It's a 40 tooth ratcheting design. High visibility orange, a range of extension tips available, and fold out bit storage so you don't unscrew an end cap. It's priced between these two at around $59.75. Part number is SRSO4

I was gifted my Snap-On in 1992 and it is still operating perfectly.

I've personally had my Snap on ratcheting screw driver for over 12 years now. Never had any issues with it, except misplaced bits.

i have literally been using the snap on for my entire life and it works just as well now as it did all those years ago when i first started to learn how to use tools as a child tbe wobble is minimal, about as much as in the video and it has always been my go to screwdriver for automotive or home use

I have that same Snap-On screwdriver. Bought it some 25-30 yrs. ago and have used it rigorously w/ no failures or excessive wear. Pd. about $35 when it was new. Definitely made well and I would likely buy again if I had to. The grip is great and the wrist torque you can apply is very good. I have tried a few other odd named ratcheting screwdrivers over the years, which I do not remember brands, but I did always find myself going back to the Snap-On. Buy it once, not again philosophy.

Ive had these as well as several other ratcheting screwdrivers...right now my favorite is the Sioux Tools 2960K ratcheting screwdriver.. On eBay for around $35. Use one if you get a chance. I doesnt have gears like these - very smooth. I like the telescoping magnet feature also - very handy.

A side by side torque or torture test would be nice. I have several of the Snap-on ratcheting screwdrivers, have worked them without reprieve and haven't had problem one. In my opinion, worth the price; can't say anything averse to the Megapro as I have no experience. I'd like to see which of them comes out on top when taken to the breaking point (my money is on the Snap-on.)

About 35 years ago I bought the Snap-On screwdriver. Got a warranty replacement for it a year ago, because I lost the little roller ball inside it. I think I paid $40 back then for it. It’s a great screwdriver. The bits are made by Apex. Nowadays you can get the Williams one, or the GearWrench.

I have been using the SO for over 30 years. I wore one out but got it replaced free. The bits are also gauranteed. SK makes a great stubby version but I also have the SO stubby.

I have owned the snap on driver for many years and am happy with the tool. The biggest draw back is that snap on has had to rebuild (replace) the ratcheting mechanism more and than three times. I don't think I would buy another one just because of the cost.

I would go Snap-on on this, seeing that like many others below, I also had mine for at least 25 years and it's still going strong. Warranty is one thing, when tools break in the middle of a job, you're hooped.

I used to own the Snap On. I actually found it, so it was free. I loved that screwdriver and had it for a few years before I lost it too. My dad has one that was a gift from his employer, probably 20 years ago and still going strong. I now own the Craftsman. It''s OK for the price but doesn't compare to the Snap On. I can't speak for the Megapro but Im sure it's a good buy, especially for the price.

Owning BOTH, I can say the Snap-on has the ability to allow MORE Torque to be put at the bit Due to the handle design . IF you don't have a 200ft lb "grip"with your hand, the Snap-on will allow more of what you have to get to the Bit. The forward/reverse ring can crack if you drop the tool just right though. My 2 cents.

The Snap-On Screwdriver has a strong magnet that will hold the screw on the bit. A standard size bit rather than a custom bit like on the Mega Pro. It's like having a 3rd hand when you're at the top of a ladder and need to hold a light up with one hand and start threading the screw with the other hand. This is where the knurled shaft is great too. It's expensive but it's my most used tool and I always have it with me. The magnet came out once (Snap-On fixed it) and I had to use a Stanley for a week. Slower, less accurate work. Customers didn't notice of course but I bought a 2nd Snap-On as a backup. For the tools you use everyday it's all about the feel I guess. If you use a tool only once a month or quarterly then that's probably where you can economize.

I've had the Snap-on for 20 years now - still works like new. Call it brand loyalty - but it's one of my favorite hand tools.

In my opinion many people are unaware or nieve to the fact there are other options available. The life long shop tech for example only knows what the truck salesman has drilled in their head over the years. They don't realize the Williams driver is the EXACT same for nearly half the price. For example I have a buddy that refuses to believe any SO hand tools are made overseas. Even after showing him the punch set I have is made in Spain, he recites "my dealer says every SO hand tool is made right here in the USA." Well my friend, you're being lied to.

Yeah. I've heard other stories of Snap-On reps outright lying. Like when someone mentioned that it looked a Snap-On tool looked like it was a rebranded version from a company that specializes in making those kinds of tools, the rep said that the rebranding must be the other way and that Snap On was actually supplying the tools to them.

Had the Sanp-on for 30+ years and the ratchet just went out. Was replaced with zero hassel. I just love how it feels and ratchets even if the bit storage is not great. Also have the Craftsman 47144 and its nice but does not have that feel and no storage. That said, not sure i would pay $70+ again. And have had friends go buy the Craftsman after using mine.

I have the snapon (gift) and it has worked flawlessly for about 10 years now.

I like the Megapro one! All those bits are extremely handy right in the back of the tool and can't get lost. I have a husky one that is similar and it's awesome!

I use the Milwaukee ratcheting 10-1 (or maybe its 11-1). I only bought it when it was on a promo that came with a small stubby screwdriver because i thought the price was too high by itself. I can't imagine paying $35 and certainly not $70. I also have a cheap $5 ratcheting screwdriver and i lost the cap off the end, so it can't hold bits in the handle anymore, but its durability has been no issue. Lifetime warranty doesn't appeal to me, because if there is a problem, it's typically because i lost it or abused it and it wouldn't be covered under warranty anyway.

You can buy the Williams ratcheting screwdriver from Amazon for $40. It is same as Snap-on ratcheting screwdriver just different color

@@RealToolReviews You all are missing the point of owning a Snap-on. The caps can suck, get lost and break, the Ring for forward and reverse can break if dropped, BUT, The way the handle is made with the 4 corners allows a much more positive GRIP on tough fasteners. It is much better than any round, or even the williams handle.

I didn't see mentioned that the snap on has a screw down lid, whereas the Megapro end swivels in the palm of your hand. If you exert a lot of torque the Snap on's lid can unscrew itself whereas the better Megapro does not. I think it's a no-brainer.

I've used the snap-on ratcheting screwdriver for close to 20 years now. I've switched to the megapro for the free-spinning cap and bit storage. The ratcheting feels less pronounced on the megapro (feels softer), but that probably won't be an issue. I do wish it had a bit of knurling on the shaft, but other than that, it seems good.

The Megapro is definitely on my purchase list after watching this.

I have the snap on screw driver and I use the crap out of it. Still works great but wish it had a better grip on it. But that's it! Can you do a video on the snap on bits versus other brands of bits?

Would recommend the Klein ratcheting screwdriver. Very well made and affordable. Can get one for $20 at Home Depot.

I was wondering if you could test the ratcheting side by side. I do not own either but have used the Snap-On many times. I have the more inexpensive Stanley. What I need to know is which of these will ratchet a screw longer before the screw being too loose for the ratcheting to be effective. I work with computers and can tell you the Snap-on ratcheting is very smooth. I can use the Snap-on longer than my Stanley, while loosening or the start of tightening a screw before needing to lock it in place.

nice video. I never did like all that play on the SO screwdriver but I see they're just like that because my milwaukee ratcheting screwdriver has similar play. the SO is way over priced..

I have the newer style snap on ratcheting screwdrivers where the shanks are removable and like them exactly for that reason...if you buy the regular one and the stubby version u can intercchange both their shanks with the stubby one being obviously about half the size as the standard lenght shank

Check out the Williams WRS-1 made by Snap On industrial line, made in USA, the shaft is not knurled like the Snap ON but is very similar. The handle is blue but the shape look very much alike , on EBAY one sells for $31.99 plus free shipping

I have 6 different snap on ratcheting screwdrivers. use them all day to build air craft cabinets. Have one right now that's not working properly in reverse. I'll just bring it on the truck when he comes to my job Friday :) I love snap on but I use it to make money.

durability is a very big deciding factor... how long until the tool breaks and I have to send it in to get it fixed? I have work to do, I can't always be having my tools breaking, you know?

Another cost effective alternative I found, I got a Kobalt branded one from Lowe's. Although it may have gotten discontinued, because I can't find it on their website. I paid $20 for it, but it was on sale and I think it was normally $30. it also has an interchangeable shaft, short medium and long lengths.

I have a soft grip version of the Snap On ratcheting screwdriver. It came as a bonous when I bought a set. I have never found a real good use for it. It sat for so long unused the ratcheting mechanism rusted and seized.

I've owned a snap-on ratchet screwdriver for 10 years now, while it hasn't let me down i feel by far the best feature of the screwdriver is the bits supplied with it, in particular the ACR phillips. Couldn't quite see in the video if the megapro had this, however in australia i have not come across any other screwdriver bits that have this feature

yes, love my snap on ratcheting screwdriver. Though only two bits included kinds sucks.

I own the snap on and i also own a craftsman version. I prefer the craftsman to the snap on both in terms of how little resistance it takes to get it to ratchet starting a small screw as well as the bit storage. You get MANY more bits with the craftsman and the storage in the handle is a lot more organized. I got the craftsman for 50$ off the truck when i worked in a shop but even then it was too expensive for what you get. For what it's worth my grandfather has had his regular and long ratcheting drivers since they came out and they've still got the original bits and drivers, being used everyday for the better part of their existence. So they DO last, but still not enough for me to go buy another.

I have the Megapro Automotive Screwdriver in my portable tool box. I thought the price was steep at $35 but it was a splurge. Now that I've used and owned one, if I lost it, I would replace it without a second thought. I haven't had any noticeable issue with the slight wobble in use. I like that the ratcheting is just right being that it feels like I can put serious torque on it for a screwdriver while being fine enough to turn screws quickly with little effort. The bit storage is excellent and quick and I don't worry about losing the cap and the cap spins freely and easily. The plastic is not perfectly smooth which is a good thing and the rubber is comfortable and grippy. Anyone I've let use it, really liked it. Even my father who is a certified master mechanic for over 20 years. The Sweethome has a great article on it, and I'd encourage anyone looking for a ratcheting screwdriver to read the article.

I've used Megapro screwdrivers in some pretty harsh environments for years and the ONLY issue I've ever had, is that the little clips that hold the bits in the handle eventually get loose and the bits fall out easily. That's after years of popping bits in and out of them all day, everyday though. And my line of work is a lot harder on tools than most because I'm a plumber, so my tools are constantly getting wet, getting submerged in less than clean water, etc...the bits get rusty after awhile, but the actual screwdrivers just keep on ticking, ratchet and all.

I have a Snap On which I bought in 1992. No idea what I paid for it back then. I liked it when I just needed simple tools, now I use mostly cordless stuff now.

I’ve had to have my snap on ratcheting screwdrivers rebuilt 4 times over 15 years. I have the one shown here and a stubby. They do it on the truck, but my Home Depot Milwaukee and dewalt ratcheting screwdrivers never break, at least not so far. They are clunkier and not as smooth as the snap on, but so far much more reliable.

I personally like the Ideal twist-a-nut ratcheting 21 in 1 it's aimed at the electrician but will work for automotive.

I have the snap-on one and my only complaint is that it's annoying to swap a bit by taking it out of the handle.

Don't give a damn where the tool is made as long the price and its reliability are there....but definitely care and I refused to pay 70 or even less 50 dollars for a damn screwdriver.

I received the Kobalt version with the locking collar as a gift. I don't know how much it cost but I am sure it wasn't $70. I doubt it was even 35. It works great.

IN 1990, We purchased a snap-on limited edition 70th anniversary gold plated ratcheting screwdriver. Until 2004, it was used daily in the shop, then it was retired and came home for limited use. At the beginning of December, the ratcheting portion died, and it no longer locks, and therefore slips. The toolman offered to replace it with a current version. The anniversary edition can be purchased on ebay. So the question is, do we get a functioning tool, or hang onto a collectors item that will only collect dust?

the Snap on ratcheting screwdriver I have has remove able shanks and can be swaped out for shorter, longer shanks or even a 1/4 nut driver shank so it has a lot more use then just a screwdriver.

I kept expecting you to run tests (a shootout) on these to show how well each did performing tasks, if one felt better in the hand (materials used and grip), etc. However, it was not to be. I have a 30 y.o. version of the Snap-on (orange, not the cool green you bought) and prefer it to the Megapro. At the time, the Snap-on was about $35. The Megapro's handle looked too large (I liked the Snap-on's ergonomics, and I have small hands); the bit situation was an issue (you could only use the double-ended bits on the one I considered a few years ago, which are not widely available). I don't use it every day (I'm a DIYer), but the Snap-on has never jammed or hesitated in use. The knurling is a good feature to have, though not a requirement. I have to admit, the "rubber bumps" on the Megapro's handle looked pretty low-rent to me. I actually did buy the Megapro Compact ratcheting screwdriver about five years ago from Amazon, at about $23; it was made in Taiwan (I believe), and the ratcheting mechanism catches or locks up periodically. Given the durability and overall good performance, I would buy the Snap-on again, though I would opt for the two-component (rubberized) handle this time. Given the price point, an interesting competition would be between the Megapro from this review compared with the Blue-Point and J.H. Williams models (both are part of Snap-on).

I've had that screwdriver over 30 years Came only in black. Today there's no texture or logo left but it works like the day I bought it off the truck What's not mentioned is the snap on is serviceable to clean and oil pricy at 71$

i don't know about your version, but my snapon screwdriver has a removable shaft so you can swap from a hex bit holder to a 1/4" socket

I own the Snap On , while pricey , it's good kit . I have a T handled , and standard version . I also have the repair kit , tho I have never had to use it

I’ve had the snapon with the removable shaft a few years now and the major design flaw is that end cap coming off and all the bits flying everywhere. But 70 dollars is a lil steep for any screwdriver..

Same here. Snapon can keep their $70 screwdrivers. I’ve hated mine since about the third day I owned it.
