It's nowhere near a second slower during the race. Only in qualifying, and time difference in qualifying doesn't matter, only relative position. Good for Mercedes that they've got a car that can go hyperspeed for one lap and then destroys its tyres, but that doesn't help much during the race.

@@bananatree2527 its a second slower in the race too. You can clearly see it in every race so far. The Mercedes is GONE in the first few laps and then they just manage their engine and tyres. Silverstone was difficult for them. Hope we can see more races like the last one on Silverstone.

Max really is the only one who can put up a fight to Mercedes at the moment.

@@yophono5929 + people can't see that on race day he's much better than gasly, the reason why he took so long to overtake him was because of his tyre management while forcing gasly to destroy his and he overtook him with ease later on to secure a p5 with a damn good pace, he literally destroyed stroll with similar tyres.

Basically, what we are witnessing is a 22-year-old driver single handling not one, but two of the best drivers (a then six-time champion and a somewhat irregular but capable squire) who were driving the fastest F1 ever created, but people keep calling him overrated, not a real champion...

Albon is fearless. Always going for the overtake on the outside. Never would have seen Gasly doing that, and no disrespect to Pierre. Alex just need work on His Saturdays, race pace is fine. Only 2nd season for this kid and was quite impressive at T.R. Love Albon and his overtaking

Although true they use tyre warmers, as far as I know, it’s not up to the optimal window. It’s advisable to nurse them unless you have a lot of confidence on your driving abilities, which is exactly the point of the commentator about Max’s skills.

@@martijnvv8031 before 2019 the tires came out of the warmers at 100°C. Since the 2019 season they come out at 80°C due to changes in the rules. Optimal working range is around 95°C for hypersofts and goes up to 135°C for superhards. For most of the tyres now used in F1 the range sits between 100 and 120°C. 80°C might seem close to optimal temps, but is far from optimum grip.

Now verstappen has 52 wins, crazy.

Driving clean + Downforce is the short answer. The more downforce you have the more pressure will be on your chassis / suspension / tyres. If you have good racecraft you can drive gentle over a circuit even with these speeds to stop tyre degredation with a few % There was no driver who could manage his tyres as Verstappen back in 2016 i believe it was when rules were diffrent. He was very impressive even when the lad was a fresh rookie.

I love Hamilton as I’m British and he is definitely our best driver since mansell but my favourite driver has to be max verstappen. What a driver he is in wet or dry conditions, always hungry for the race and has come on so far mentally in the last two seasons, definitely future world champion many times over for that young man, great race max, well deserved win and well done to red bull 👍🏻

If that was true then please explain austin 2019 (it would have been better for them to have their champion win the championship in style) :). Mercedes use team orders when it is needed to get the most points for the team, and are helping Hamilton only when he is well ahead of Bottas in the standings and they are fighting another team for the championship. If you want to see strange strategy decisions and team orders however, you have to look no further than Ferrari (especially a few years ago).

Pretty good racing weekend for both us Dutch racing fans and Red Bull. Considering both Tsunoda and Honda won I would say it was even a pretty solid race weekend for the Japanese racing fans aswell.

Looks like Red Bull and even Ferrari are stepping up their game a little. Congrats Max, he's driving great this year. Very focused and would be even higher without the DNF.

Ferrari in no way stepped up their game. They are still slow. Leclerc a good qualifier which means he doesn't have to deal with dirty air as much. But seeing Vettel basically being stuck in traffic, compared to Albon being able to overtake, just shows that their car really doesn't work aerodynamically. You also can't really put that fact on Vettel as he is, as long as he doesn't spin, still fast, not the fastest but not slow either

@@thomy1955 In terms of Engineering, it is Pirelli's weak tires that can't handle the speed of Mercedes. Using an extreme example, it is basically putting Jet engine on antique wooden tires. It is not the jet engine that is slow, it is the old broken tires that are trash. But, well, apparently, "don't be fast, because it makes the rest looks bad" is the trend

Yup. It's going to get worse to, it really won't suit Mercedes to have Bottas disturbing a Mercedes driver taking over Schumachers 2 records left, that can be done this year. Hamilton needs 4 more wins, and the WDC to equal Schumacher. Kind of hope it doesn't happen, but seems eniviable, nothing nasty, just whoever watched Schumacher, Brawn and Todt build Ferrari up from the shit is was from 1996 onwards, knows that Schumacher deserved his records more than Hamilton. And it's still why I believe Hamilton will still go to Ferrari, regardless of what he says at the moment.
