70's Commercials Vol. 95

Ойын-сауық

These commercials aired on NBC on August 7th, 1978
1. Sears Weatherbeater Paint
2. Wella Balsam Shampoo (With Jaclyn Smith. 0:51 fighting the fuzzies, at eleven)
3. Fritos
4. Desitin (With Tennis pro Laurie Rowley, who played mostly under her maiden name Laurie Fleming)
5. ??? (Most likely skipped by the person who recorded this)
6. Phillips Petroleum
7. American Express (With Karl Malden)
8. Burger King Whopper Meal
9. "NBC Monday Night At The Movies" Commercial Bumper
10. Estee Lauder
11. Wendy's
12. WSB Action News Bumper
13. WSB Station ID/Today In Georgia Promo Bumper (I have no idea why they opted to play an easy listening/muzak version of "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" here...but I'm not complaining!)
14. "NBC Monday Night At The Movies" Commercial Bumper (I'm so excited to finally post commercials from a vintage broadcast of "Columbo". I actually re-watched this episode not that long ago)
15. Kodak Handle (With Dick Van Dyke)
16. Gallo Red Rose Wine
17. Aim Toothpaste (6:35 oh no Mom not another fight over toothpaste)
18. Hartz 2 in 1 Flea & Tick Collar
19. America Works Best Together PSA (Um...this is AMAZING! I never thought I would see Peter Graves dressed up as a founding father. And the message of this PSA is unfortunately still very relevant today, if not more so)
20. Stove Top Stuffing
21. Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo
22. Alka-Seltzer
23. "NBC Monday Night At The Movies" Commercial Bumper
24. Promo for "Peter Lundy And The Medicine Hat Stallion" (A repeat of a 1977 made-for-TV movie)
25. Smith Foster for Congress
26. WSB Station ID
27. "NBC Monday Night At The Movies" Commercial Bumper
28. Johnson's Baby Shampoo
29. Little Friskies (CATS PLAYING BANJOS! I hate to say it, but this right here is probably the peak of this channel. It can't ever be topped. It's all downhill from here)
30. Lysol Disinfectant (I wonder what the twist will be at the end of this "Twilight Zone" episode?)
31. Primatene Mist and Tablets
32. Promo for "Breakout"
33. Lays Bar-B-Q Potato Chips
34. Unity Card (With Art Linkletter. I took the VCR! Oh wait, wrong ad)
35. Promo for "Lifeline"
36. Promo for "Today" (With a very young Tom Brokaw)
37. "Columbo: How To Dial A Murder" End Credits
38. American Heart Association PSA
39. Chevron (With the voice of Casey Kasem)
40. Steak And Ale
41. Scottish Rite Temple PSA
42. WSB Action News Bumper
43. TV Spot for "Eyes Of Laura Mars" (The original story treatment and initial screenplay were written by John Carpenter and this was his first involvement with a major studio, though Carpenter has disowned the rewrite done by David Zelag Goodman describing his script as being "shat upon")

45. Exxon

Stove Top Stuffing- Compared to what the packaging of this product looks like nowadays, this package design from the 70’s looks very fancy with the table setting like that. Johnson’s Baby Shampoo- I can’t help but to notice that the man and the woman in this commercial look like they’re both wearing wigs, advertising a baby shampoo that adults can use. Little Friskies- Despite how awkward it looks for cats to play banjos like that, I find it has a nice amount of charm and cuteness.

The Columbo episode, "How to Dial a Murder" followed immediately by Dick Van Dyke selling cameras! D.V.D. played a professional photographer who commits a double murder on an earlier episode. For what it's worth 😊

Have you ever thought about the kinship between THE THREADS OF LIFE?! That's how we start. Then we go up with the Peter Graves ad and then we've reached PEAK 80s CV with the BANJO CATS which I'm sure will be referenced for years to come in future volumes! Amazing!

Peter Lundy & The Medicine Hat Stallion-starring Leif Garrett's twin brother Life Lysol Disinfectant-"FIND it..before you get banished to the cornfield." Breakout-good film Lay's Bar-B-Q Potato Chips-not a good idea to place the bag on a hot grill Lifeline-the three doctors mentioned could've created the LCU(Lifeline Cinematic Universe) American Heart Association-now would be a good time to put that cigarette down Eyes Of Laura Mars-another good film..poster always creeped me out

0:30--What ever happened to Wella Balsam shampoo? 0:59--My 2nd favorite Fritos jingle (my favorite can be found at 70's Commercials Vol. 26). The Muncha Buncha jingle is based on an old song called "The Aba Daba Honeymoon." 1:29--My parents used Desitin on my siblings and me when we were little. 3:00--Catchy jingle for Burger King,. 4:08--I thought Wendy's Frosty only came in chocolate back then, but I could be wrong. 5:14--This must have been near (or even a bit after) the end of Columbo's original run, until ABC revived it with new episodes in the late 80's. As of 2023, it is rerunning on Cozi TV, a retro network available over the air in many parts of the country. 5:21--As a Beach Boys fan, I love the use of their hit "Fun, Fun, Fun" as a Kodak jingle. 6:22--Aim toothpaste is still around, now as a budget brand with minimal advertising. 6:52--I grew up with cats, and we always used Hartz 2-in-1 flea/tick collars on them. 8:22--"Stove Top stuffing instead of potatoes" is an iconic advertising catchphrase of the 70's and 80's. 8:52--Although no longer branded as a Clairol product, Herbal Essence shampoo is still around. Although it is marketed primarily towards women, I admit to sometimes using it myself. 9:22--"Plop plop, fizz fizz; oh, what a relief it is!" Another iconic slogan/jingle of the day. 10/20--I wonder why they had an election for a congressional seat in August? 11:34--Although "Ain't We Got Fun" is probably best known as a Carnival Cruise jingle, I like it even better (complete with banjos) as a cat food jingle. 13:34--I think Lay's Bar-B-Q was one of the first flavored potato chips. 16:11--Great commercial for Steak and Ale.
