7 Wonders Architects Review - we got a new spin off game! Is it worth playing alongside 7 Wonders? Is it a replacement? Or a cool entry point?
In 7 Wonders: Architects, 2-7 players race to become a leader of the ancient world by completing an architectural wonder that will last through the ages.
Players receive an unconstructed wonder at the beginning of the game and must collect resources to build their society, develop military might to navigate conflicts, oversee resource management, research science improvements, and collect civil victory points as they race to leave their mark on world history.

I look forward to trying this one. I agree that 7 Wonders isn't a true gateway game for most people & I'm excited to have a simpler version to introduce people to the 7 Wonders world.

Mate, I agree 100% with your review. I was able to teach this game in 4 minutes to non gamers to play at work during lunch break and everyone had a blast! Including experienced gamers. It’s simple, fast paced and super good looking!

I really enjoy 7 Wonders and one of the reasons I got it was for the high player count. However, when the game group grows, so grows the distractions and usually there’s at least one person who is a casual game player at best. Then the game gets too complicated and not so fun. So, I think Architects will fit the bill for high player count game nights. Any game at 6 - 7 player count may bog down a bit with wait time, but people seem to gravitate to playing a game together rather than 2 separate games. Architects is on order. I’m also a big fan of 7 Wonders Duel and think it’s probably the best 2 player game.

Good review, Luke. I think this is a great addition to the 7 wonders family of games, and kudos to the publisher for not going for a sequel to the original game that is of the same midweight level and instead giving some thought about how to draw new players in by simplifying the gameplay but still keeping it fun, and the game trays certainly make it good value for money. I will be checking this one out for sure. Now get back to playing those heavy euros!

Hi! can someone help me? About golden cards, I must use it to complete any EXISTING resource in my hand, or I can use it freely? for example 3 golden cards to build a [3 ≠] Wonder part?

Use it freely - it MUST be used but it counts for ANY resource.

Love 7 Wonders, one of my Top Ten Games. Don‘t think I will buy Architects but will give it a try if the chance comes up

Spot on! Non-gamer family had trouble with 7 Wonders, but this one is more approachable, while still being a good game. ... Yes, 7W is still the better game, but this is the one that hits the table, and that's a big plus for me.

Love what Bauza did with the concept; gotta say that the 7 wonders series is one of my favorite to teach others, since beteen normal, duels and this you have something for all kind of board gamers, and this one is so easy to teach the ones that haven't yet played or don't have much experience. Awesome review dude.

Sorry for the late late comment, but I just rented this from the library and reading the rules I noticed something. Do/did you house rule how the end of the game is triggered? I mean it seems like the first player could have a significant advantage?

You can house-rule a simple change like equal turns but honestly I've not found that the 1st player wins games as often as you think.

I’ve only played with 2 and 3 players. 3 is more interesting with the conflict and the choices you can make with the green tokens.

If you play with Alexandria in this game, then there is actually more player interaction outside your neighbours.

There is, but it's like the "draw on neighbours board" in Cartographers - it's incredibly minor!

I wouldn't compare them really. This isn't drafting, it's more card selection and simple resolution.

Thank you for bringing this game to my attention. There are too much Kickstarter hype and too little focus on games that can be bought and played straight away! Loved your top 100 too - all of them:)

I played 4 games tonight at my games club including teaching within the 3.5 hour allotment. All simple games, all good fun. Kickstarter has been both good and bad for the hobby.
