7 Ways to Stop Caring About What Others Think

Comparing yourself to others and focusing on what other people think about you is bad for your mental health. The happiest people don’t even think about others, they focus on themselves and being better than they were previously.
Show yourself gratitude, focus on yourself, and know that you can't make everyone happy. Stop caring about what people think of you and be confident in yourself.

Probably how I was raised? I used to kind of think of myself more often and I feel like it was too much. I could also tell from how the people around me acted towards me. I think I just toned it down and that just became a natural thing and a little too much. right now, I'm trying to find a sweet spot where it's balanced well and I can help others while keeping myself in check.

I struggle a lot with the idea of being misunderstood. I don't want anyone to think I'm bad, stupid, or worthless because those are things I've internalized about myself. However, as a I get older, I realize I'm simply projecting my insecurities out into the world. Most people don't even notice me or think about me. And that makes me feel peaceful. :)

  • @ChocoParfaitFra

I realized that when people tell you what to do, they’re talking about what they want for themselves. Not everyone is giving you advice for your own self being, some people are just projecting what they like onto you. I always feel wrong, but then I saw that I’m not the problem, they’re simply projecting what they want for themselves! Be self confident and keep doing what you’re doing

Even in knowing and understanding that, I sometimes still wish people would stop talking to me this way and learn to better appreciate my existence in the moment. "You can't please everybody, might as well please yourself". I heard that in a song and it is so true. I'm working on that right now. My sibling is rolling in the cash and has everything he needs. Mom said I turned out well. And I am right next door to broke! Needless to way, it meant a lot to me. That so speaks to me. As an Aspie and a (essentially) people pleaser/masker, I've always felt like I have to act or be a certain way to not be criticized, even by my own family and friends, because I do have an intense fear of being criticized, like it literally triggers my fight or flight response (usually my response is just freeze). It just feels scary to get criticized and/or rejected. However, I am trying to just be happy with who I am and not let every small piece of criticism make me feel intimidated, and to 'just' be myself.

My darling mother worried excessively about what other people thought of her. As a teenager, I was the one who would sit down with her and tell her how fabulous she was in every way. I knew that she was a sensitive person and possessed a type of fragility that I had not seen in others. I never gave a hoot about what others thought of me, even in high school, which can be a rough place to fit in. How could a mother and daughter be so opposite in this regard? I had the confidence of an eagle and she possessed the confidence of a butterfly. Be an eagle in your life as you will fly higher and feel fabulous up there!

i remember i was going through something difficult when i was younger and during that time I cared and really wanted to know how other people thought of me. Was really hard to stop feeling sad all of the time. And then I stopped caring and i'm currently much happier. Yes everyone, when you stop caring about other people's thoughts , the grass is greener on the other side.

I really like point 3. Everyone is human. I have the problem of comparing myself to others, trying to work on getting out of that mindset. So I think when I start comparing myself to others, I’ll say to myself ‘ everyone farts’. Which is true and will give me a giggle😂

I’ve been pretty good about it, I used to be a huge people pleaser. I still am sometimes because my family guilts me into being one n calls me selfish for making decisions that are better for myself, but the thing I tell myself the most is that I need to do whatever I want to do because not everything I do is gonna make people happy. I can do something that will make some people happy and some people upset, it doesn’t matter, as long as it makes ME happy. I don’t care. It’s easier when you tell yourself that (also I haven’t watched the video yet I just wanted to say this since I was looking through the comments and saw something similar)

It’s easy just stop caring and only value your own opinion of yourself. That’s what I do and since doing this my anxiety is like 90% down 🤗 and I’m even more happier than ever. Also usually when people say things to me that’s supposed to be rude it goes over my head so I don’t get offended, that also helps 😊

If using social media is making you feel bad, you need to learn how to curate your newfeed and friends list. As someone disabled by chronic illness and chronic pain, My entire social life is through social media. It takes a few hours of solid work, but curating your social media is SO, SO WORTH IT! You shouldn't be focusing on making yourself look as good as possible to other people, or interacting with people and content that makes you unhappy, jealous, angry, or sad. You should be interacting with positive content and people that make you feel happy, supported, worthwhile, uplifted, and inspired. Take the time to do it, I promise you won't regret it 😊❤

Long before social media started, and now that it is here just in fron of out faces (on our phones, computer etc.), this is definitely something worth watching. I grew up on a generation not having and having social media and most of the time, social media is the culprit especially if you are following "influencers". Or even sometimes if you go up. Pat yourself on the back as YOU definitely can provide gratitude to yourself. And be thankful for small little things and accomplishments too! Sometimes we only see the greater picture and totally forget the process on how to get there. Don't also be a people pleaser. It really doesn't work like that. We cannot make everyone happy - even sometimes our loved ones. It doesn't really go that way in life AT MOST TIMES. There may be occasions that we have to please others but just doing out part to the best of our skills and knowledge is just about it. And building self esteem is something easier said that done at most times. But being able to appreciate your self worth, and even "validating yourself" - for what you feel and think at times is enough. Listen to some good positive music works for me. Life songs that has lyrics of empowerment, and making you feel good works. And the notion to "move on" and "move along" whenever things gets rough. It's alright at times to succumb on how bad things happened or the situation is but we have to move on and carry along as there are other great and wonderful things ahead of us that we should be all looking forward too. I hope this helps.

I think the first thing you need to do is to stop caring about the rest yourself. Most people reflect their insecurities on others (at least on their own mind), thus they think that everyone is just as judgemental as themselves. Which inevitably leads to a sense of insecurity. DON'T FOCUS ON OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY "THINK ABOUT YOU" It just makes you more and more paranoid, because you'll keep on unintentionally seeking their stares.

What do you know? This is a perfectly timed video for me. My only question is how to forgive yourself as much as you do others? Sure, other people mess up, obviously, but their everyday screw-ups are easier to look past than your own. You always end up feeling inferior, even while recognizing their imperfection. Those past mistakes feel like stains. How do you create an objective scale for judging yourself and others? Also, I really need to work on my self-knowledge, but I'm also afraid of the amount of work those realizations will prompt. How long to fix what I don't like? And then I'll *still* be behind everyone else when I can finally start projecting a sense of self-actualization comparable to theirs.
