I get so annoyed by TicTok particularly when it comes to beauty content. I remember the facial symmetry filter and seeing video after video where people were either bragging if they had facial symmetry or lamenting their lack of facial symmetry and how to fix it. As you said, creating a whole new insecurity for people to feel bad and use makeup or get a procedure to correct something nobody even thought about until the stupid facial symmetry filter test became a thing.

Ah! No. We alllllllll absolutely turn to you!!! All day everyday. Sephora associates know nothing about customer service I’m sorry. They don’t. And it’s not even their fault. It’s absolutely Sephora itself. That said. (And believe me I WISH I HAD REALIZED THIS SOONER listen up kiddos!) aside from maybe the manager and maybeeeeee a few here and there-when you ask a question nowadays they answer with questions. Like what? I just asked you a question 🙃and then it’s like they basically make you do your own work which if I wanted to do that, I WOULDNT HAVE ASKED YOU and I wouldn’t have spent my precious gas and time going into the store... 🙂.

The worst are these natural make up looks that require 20 products you have to have. The other day I watched a YT vlog by a very popular and beautiful European influencer who did a super quick make up look with minimal products that she pulled from her make up bag and not from a new box gifted to her. When she was done she placed her face right up to the camera where her pores were clearly visible and said "gorgeous". I loved that. I wish there was more of that real confidence on social media.

Now it just feels like a trend factory for teenagers with no real perks or incentives anymore. I had very noticeable hip dips when I was younger and although there was no name for them I hated them. From looking at magazine models I thought I was not supposed to have them. None of the clothes I tried on were flattering because they were made without curves. That was the 80s, 90s and 00s. Nothing was flattering and until City Chic appeared there was nothing that could even cater to my natural pear shape. Even when I was having a nervous breakdown and dropped 2 sizes I was still pear shaped. Things were not actually better then. They were just horrible in a different way.

The worst thing is, I read these kids comparing the nicotine dosages they get with different brands. And they want the most nicotine possible! That is the thing that is more addictive in your brain than heroin. And I know they're also getting as much caffeine as possible from energy drinks and strong coffees. They're all going to be busting blood vessels before they're 35, with the constricted circulation and high blood pressure. I can only surmise that Big Capitalism has decided it is way too costly to let lots of people live to an old age. None of these things are allowed to happen, unless the wealthy and powerful decide that's what they want to happen to us. Why else the expensive and hard to access health care? Why else all the guns? Why else all the stress of working and trying to survive in our society? They want it that way, and the hell with all of us.

So I'm 55 and have never been on TikTok. I think short form is a complete waste of time and my generation, GenX, is unlikely to trust a beauty influencer that only takes 60 seconds to "review" a product. We are much more likely to spend money on the latest and greatest when we trust an influencer. There's absolutely no way I can gauge someone's integrity in just a few seconds. Love you, Kackie, for being more about being able to live with yourself. I hope your channel gets that viral moment just for being who you are. ❤

I'm sure it feels so peaceful to not have to deal with ads (seriously, I can feel my attention span shrinking with each one), but I think we have to look at the bigger issue of *why* we can't deal with watching (or, in my case, ignoring) something for 10, 20 or 30 seconds. What has social media done to our brains to cause us such turmoil if, god forbid, we have to wait in order to view what we want to view? I definitely don't blame you for ridding the ads from your life - I would do the same if I could justify spending the money each month. Instead, I've decided to build a habit of doing breathing exercises whenever an ad pops up. It's like a meditation bell (just not as soothing). Just putting this idea out there in case anyone else is looking for a way to grin and bear their free KZread.

Boomer here who loves your channel. Getting all my beauty info, advice, and body consciousness from massively airbrushed magazines with a very narrow range of models when I was a teenager was bad enough for my young and developing sense of self. But at least Seventeen magazine only came out once a month! I spent a couple hours with it and moved on to other more important and interesting activities. I truly cannot imagine what it must be like being a teenager and being constantly bombarded with all this garbage and believing it is real. (And grateful that I have no reason to have to download the TikTok app onto any device I own. I don’t trust the ownership of that app for a milisecond.)

What sucks about this is we have consumer guilt. So we are aware that we are over consuming. But it feels so bad to confront that that many people are still consuming and then self loathing. I was emotionally okay enough to watch one anti consumerism and now my feed is pumping this content to me. This is a space that doesn’t judge you for being a consumer who is easily manipulated. This feels educational and than lets you make your own choice. I’m almost 40 and only now able to control my spending. I imagine myself throwing away the item I want to buy. I find it’s so much easier to buy that $65 pallet or $100 dress when you are not buying three $15 dresses as well. It’s such a simple concept only buy what inspires you, but it’s pretty hard to not buy things that make you “happy”. Happy is a fleeting emotion.

This is a small thing, but I really love that you DIDN’T edit out the influencer’s handles/usernames. It holds them accountable. I’m tired of people scratching out the usernames whenever they critique an influencer - that influencer willingly has a public account, where they willingly post content for anyone to see. Having your username reposted, particularly if you’re being criticised, is part of the game. I do 100% agree with scratching out usernames for private accounts - that is a protection of privacy, to some extent - but we’re not talking about private accounts here. We’re talking about the public accounts of influencers who are wreaking havoc on others.

Just recentley learned that if you have makeup in sephora or ulta they dictate what makeup you put out... For instance like the new Natasha Denona palette thats why it looks similar to her other ones is bc they told her that thats what will sell... So thats why most makeup have become so bland is bc of the store not the artist!!

Nearing the end of the video now, in your last segment, and I couldn't agree more. For a generation that seems to hail body positivity, they sure are bent on all looking the same. As a 46 year old woman, I miss seeing individual character in people's faces. I hate the influence social media is putting it to our children. And, maybe random and not hitting the most important aspect of this, but I really hate the way movies now point have actors that are all "beautiful" by social media standards and so injected and sculpted and they look fake. I purposefully watch 1970s and 1980s movies with my son and point out how much more rich a movie experience can be when all the characters have character in their face. Individual features.

I'm 69 and have a beautiful daughter of 40 who still looks like most young mums (she has two kids under five). She is fortunate to have lovely thick brows and lashes and wears very little (but high end) makeup. It disappoints me that so many young women are starting to look generic - pretty but generic. It's the huge fake eyelashes and pillow lips that they seem to strive for - they are already young and gorgeous and it just seems superfluous to me. That's not to say that there aren't some lovely, natural looking young lasses out there - they stand out!

Also, It's hilarious how all influencers are "obsessed" with every viral crap that comes out. Consumers are stuck in a loop of overspending on these viral products that really suck because they are trusting these influencers. Back when you tube only existed, you tube makeup content creators really gave you honesty on products, and they educated you on the product itself with hour long videos that they explained in detail. Also they showed you how to use products correctly in tutorials.

In a nutshell, don't chase trends, invest in makeup artist owned brands and buy only as much as you can actually use

New subscriber here. You popped up in my feed and I am so glad you did! Your commentary is SPOT ON. Thank you for exposing the hideous underbelly of the beauty industry, especially in social media. I have teens with jobs, and therefore their own money, and they are constantly influenced by so many viral products, and believing that there is something wrong with themselves, even though they are unique and beautiful! I deleted TT and Insta simply to get rid of the rubbish out of my feed. As a Gen Xer, you hit nail on the head with your comments about rehashing the beauty insecurities that we all fought to destroy and accept ourselves as we are. Also, my girls are addicted to vaping - this infuriates me so much, especially since they think it is healthier than smoking! Where are the viral videos about people becoming ill, injured or dying from vapes?? Thank you for your content Kackie. New fan here ❤ Keep doing what you're doing 👏

Amen! I've been so sick of the unending loop of which insecurity is currently being harped on, and I see it being a part of the trends of things being released or vice versa. My daughter is only 4, but i legitimately worry about how this entire industy is going to affect how she feels about herself to where it makes me physically nauseous.
