    Great list! Just a quick note on *why* Auto Unit Cycler is annoying: 1) It gives you no time to observe the effect of your actions. Say, you attack a barbarian with a warrior, but with AUC enabled, you're immediately taken to, say, your scout and have no idea what the damage was. It's far better to only cycle manually when you're ready ("Enter" by default; I remap to "X"). 2) The cycling is pretty much random (even if AUC is off). Say, you're attacking a city with multiple units -- there's no guarantee that, following an action of one of your troops, the AUC will cycle within that group: you can be taken back and forth. It's better to manually click on the units in a group in a meaningful order (in this case, the attacking units), then cycle through the rest (civilian units, reinforcements, etc.).

    Here's mine: I'm a noob to Civ 6 and I learned today that you can make up for a lack of science and civics by chasing the boosts. My macro strategy was to only research techs I had boosted, even going so far as to pause several researches until I could finish them with a boost. Ended up leading in science even with a poor science per turn score. It also gave me a well rounded civilization, where I tend to over specialize usually. I also didn't know you could buy great people until a few hours ago, so I suggest looking over the UI in detail.

    I've been playing Civ 6 for two years now, and it seems like I still haven't learned all there is to learn. The ribbon is completely new to me, and that looks really, really useful. I also never really thought about switching off food production when I'm at my housing limit, but now that you mention it... well, duh! Makes perfect sense. I confess that I often don't micromanage my population unless I'm trying to put a rush on something, but I'll try to use my population more efficiently next game. I did know about siphoning funds being the best mission to send an idle spy on. Helps that the mission naturally has a much higher chance of success than anything else.

  • @fosterlewis7360

    @fosterlewis7360

    4 жыл бұрын

    Phlebas The trick is balancing the micromanagement with fun. Namely, not forgetting to set food back once housing is solved. Setting down pins to remind yourself of stuff like this can be very helpful. Early game is where micromanaging workers is most influential. Manually striking a balance between growth (top priority, perhaps) and production (slightly lower, but still high priority, perhaps) can make a significant difference. Otherwise using “focus on” food and production on every city is usually a good bet. If you pay attention to housing of every city, you don’t have to worry so much about micromanaging food to min-max optimize. Just add it to the things you’re considering when teching: sewers and neighborhoods. Also barracks/stables and lighthouses. Even aqueducts/dams/canals, particularly in plans to synergize with industrial zones. But the easiest thing is to use farms/pastures/plantations/fishing-boats and unique tile improvements or buildings from your civilization or suzerained city states (like cahokia mounds). Just always be considering that. Realistically, growth is always desirable. So not letting yourself get in the position of inadequate housing makes the point moot. When you inevitably find yourself in that position (cuz you have to prioritize something else over builders, for instance), thats when this comes into play. Of course, early game trading excess resources/diplo-favor to be able to buy granaries when you need to focus on settler and other production-this helps a lot too.

    I find the best tip in civ 6 is to only research a tech or civic half way and start researching a new one because if you meet the eureka requirement (tech) or the boost for the civic it gives it to you automatically and you may have half the next one researched already by doing so. :)

    In EU4 in the mid to late game, it's fairly common for a battle to start without you realizing it's happening. Sometimes you just get a message that you lost a battle and wonder, what battle? So the attack animations prevent that at least.

    YES!! I started playing recently and it's so much information that it becomes overwhelming. But at the same time, even though I figured out a bit of management alone, it ends up feeling like the game is just clicky-click if I don't learn how to deal with it. But most tips are.... Overwhelming. This was a great list for me! I'm subscribing you! :)

Gotta keep up that +3 amenities (20% growth) and 2+ housing to maximise food production for rapid population growth in the early game, I guess!

It would be useful to know if you can force grow cities above the pop limit efficiently, or if you get a 50% penalty. @@RickFoxChicken Exactly. If the strategic resources are tuned well, they should serve the role of making unit production strategic choices as well -- instead of spamming as many military units as possible, and thus making the gameplay potentially more diverse. As is, no human player is ever short of strategic resources and as long as there is AI civs, players would be dumbfounded to not trade those infinite resources off to AI civs. (The same can ofc be said of several other things. e.g. spy vs gold.) Except that enslaves human players into permanently watching for strategic resource overflows and busying trading surpluses off to AI as if Civ 6 was some resource management focused RTS game. In light of all that, not having a functioning trading AI is just a total blunder.
