There are cons that people will only speak Latin in. There are also podcasts that only speak Latin. New music, stories, and poetry is being written too. Ancient Greek and Anglo-Saxon are on their way to being like that too. So they're not completely useless!

A little tip for those who dont know anyone who can speak thelanguage they're learning: Try drawing a conversation between two people and putting phrases in whatever language you're learning. Or if you arent really that good at drawing, you can write down just a simple story, ex: Alexa was walking down the street when she saw her friend, Morris. She came up to him and said "Hi", Morris smiled and greeted her back. I hope this helps c:

In my native language I know the word, but when I was 16 my mother told me this is not how we say it. Because in my 16 years I never saw it on a paper or I never write it down and ppl said it fast and rarely, I never assumed I was wrong. She laughed a ton after I misspoke the word. It is because I had a beef w/ another word when I was young and mother said x word (I had a beef with) root word's I use doesn't exist(when we take apart a word it's "root" or 1st part of the word came from an another word, what is already existing), so when I heard the gossip word in my language I assumed it's word root has to be an already existing word (bear what I thought to be the "root") , boy I was wrong. I have no idea what it's mean if I take apart the gossip word) To be fair gossip is not to accurate for it, but I couldn't find a better one. So till this day I say it purposely wrong, because I like it when a bear talks to me. 😅

Don't watch the subs in your native language, put it for example Swedish dub with Swedish subs. It's proven that having your language in subs has 0% in proven compared to 7-17% improvement from having their language in subs.

@@nalanazi9866 Yeah there's a few studies on it, I can try and find the links but basically if you read your language (English) with say a Korean dub. You won't take in anything Korean because you aren't listening to the language, your brain is focusing too much on your own language that the brain is comfortable with. Where as if you read Korean and have a Korean dub, you hear how the words are pronounced, and you understand how to write or spell the characters. I recommend to spend a few weeks or so on a platform like DuoLingo just to pick up a few words in a language you wish to learn. Once you know a few, you begin to recognise the sound and characters on screen, from my personal experience I think using something like DuoLingo and then watching a Korean dub/sub film or tv show. I was able to recognise some of the words, even though I still lacked the vocabulary, I was pleased to see that I could actually recognise a few words. It's importance of dub/subs with the language is so it sticks in your brain, without having to spend too much time working out what has just been said. :)

I’m setting myself the goal of being trilingual lol. I’ve always had an interest and basic knowledge of Spanish so I’ve decided to teach myself Spanish! These tips are great Leonie! Hope I’m welcome in this community as someone who is only learning their second language 🤗

Number 3 was the one I relied on the most as a beginner. Watching videos, listening to music, etc.. make you get familiar with the language. I watched a lot of anime before I started learning Japanese. After a year I started to study, it was so easy to learn, and I even recognised some words and phrases from anime. I got to know what’s formal and what’s informal through studying. What’s used and what’s hardly used, and when to use. And cause I kept mimicking the language when watching anime and listening to music (cause I was like 15) it wasn’t that hard to speak it When I tried Korean, even though ppl said the alphabet was way easy, I found it extremely hard. Cause I wasn’t familiar with Korean like I was with Japanese

As someone who grew up speaking English and now is fluent in french as well, I think the biggest tip I can give you is surround yourself with as much of that language as possible. Because everyone around me was speaking English, I tried to listen to French music, watch French shows (you’d be surprised at how soon you won’t need the subtitles), watch French KZread, read French books, etc. Once you can understand the language you can work on pronunciation and just kind of learn to speak it. I take French in school still because although I can speak it in not too good with spelling and everything like that.

As for communication skills I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process in English and other languages.😊

  • @FrankKimono744

    @FrankKimono744

    5 ай бұрын

Below some details what I do::: I try to repeat a sentence until I can say it without hesitation or mistakes. During practice I say it realy slow at the beginning. Later alternating speed either extremely fast or slow. I don't have any set amount of reps. Just drilling until being confident. Sometimes if I have difficulties I repeat something continuously for example for 30 minutes streight. Recently I stopped counting. Just measuring time. Let's say 5 minutes gives you 100 reps. So repeat something 10-15 minutes. I try to choose short sentences 4-5 words. Or just practicing separate single words, pairs of words, 3 words together. Long sentences are very time consuming and difficult to repeat. From experience I noticed that it usually takes 5 days or more to remember something. Recently I stopped making notes just to focus on practicing. I don't use any SRS system like Anki. Only using online pons de dictionary (as I currently learn German) and bookmark some words. It is chaotic learning at the moment. I don't have any plan. Just watching videos repeatedly, reading comments and choosing some sentences, words. So videos show me what I should revise and what I don't remember. I mix practicing very old sentences and completely new ones. No particular strict rule. You can also repeat in your mind. Doesn't have to be aloud if you cannot. Please check similair method: sentence mining. kzread.info/dash/bejne/naifqsyFj7Ozk5c.html

I’m learning mandarin!! ITS SO HARDDD! Thank you for the tips!! (I’ve been scrolling down the comments, some people are taking a bit too far with calling people koreaboos. Koreaboos are people who think that there is nothing wrong korea and that everyone in Korea looks and acts like their favorite idol. Learning Korean to try and understand what their idol is saying or trying to understand what people in dramas are saying isn’t being a koreaboo. Also calling people cancerous is just plain wrong. Never should someone compare another to something as Awful as cancer. One more thing, how is learning things to try to understand what the people they watch ( their idols or whatever tv show they watch) not a legitimate reason to learn the language. The only difference is the way that they were introduced to the language. I think that it’s good to learn a language to understand their favorite idol or whatever. If you actually read all of this... thank you. If you disagree with anything that I have stated, please respectfully disagree and not be rude.

Jingmeng Lage thank you, I want to learn Korean because I found interest in the country, and because I want to understand what my favourite idols are saying, but people are putting a barrier up and they're saying that kpop and kdramas aren't good enough reasons to learn Korean, I find it quite offensive even though it's everyone's personal opinions. As you said it's just the way that we were introduced to the Korean culture. So there shouldn't be a problem with learning because of those reasons.

As for me,usually I try to surround myself with English environment, and for example I really like watching KZread because I can pick up some phrases off the video. Especially the subtitles help me. Besides,I totally agree with you about “find a buddy “ tip. It’s a great way to improve the level of language and to become fairly fluent in it. Recently, I’ve tried to find some foreign friends and two days ago I did. I’ve found a girl who lives in my city. And she is from USA, I think it’s great! Because I can teach her and she can do the same. Thank you for the tips! You definitely did not waste your time!

This is actually a really useful video. I learned French mainly by doing these things! Listening to music is a great tip. I listened to a lot of Indila’s music in French. Also becoming a fan of someone who speaks that language is a huge motivator so you can listen to interviews with that person... it really helped me. For example I’m a massive Loïc Nottet fan, he’s Belgian and although he speaks English fluently, his first language is French so listening to interviews with him in French after I had a basic grasp of vocabulary really helped.

TIPS FOR LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE - my personal notes Get a notebook devoted to that language - Everything you're learning, journal entries, whatever. Express it only in that language! This might be difficult at first because there'll be words that you find you can't express in that language. This is a great time to open up the dictionary or google translate to learn the new vocabulary for the words you wanna express. Listen to music in said language - It's a little hard sometimes because you probably won't understand most of it. Read the lyrics as you listen to the song and translate any unknown words. Keep anything that speaks to you! Watch tv shows/movies - This is great for verbal learning, pronounciaton, intonation, etc. This is also great because you'll find common phrases or words used in daily vocabulary. Read books - Specifically children books. As you build your confidence, you can progress to higher levels. Get a translated version of something you're already familiar with, so there's no confusion over context and storylines and you can just focus on the language. Apps / Extra Resources - There's a ton of free apps you can use to learn languages. Duolingo is great for vocabulary, but try to find different apps that help cover grammar, sentence structure, comprehension, etc. There's Drops, Clozemaster, HelloTalk, iTalki, Anki, HiNative, etc. Find a language buddy! - Find a language buddy you can speak to in your target language. Please don't worry about messing it up, the whole goal of this is to *make* mistakes, not avoid them! Make a bunch of awful mistakes, learn from them, and become more proficient in your target language. Don't focus on yourself; instead focus on the other person and how *they're* speaking and how you can effectively communicate with them to reach a shared goal. After all, communicating with others is the whole point of learning a new language.

Ok, to the kpop/drama fans here. As a fellow fan of the korean entertainment world, I know it can make you wanna learn Korean. BUT, If that's the only reason you want to learn the language, it won't work out. You need to really be dedicated and passionate about learning the language to really get a hang of it. Laziness won't get you there. And if you only want to learn so you can understand the lyrics or watch dramas without subtitles, you are most likely not going to learn fluent korean, sorry but it's the truth. And yes I know that not all kpop fans that wanna learn korean want to learn for convenience. Just for those of you who are, please PLEASEEEE, try to actually get interested in the language instead of daying things like 'im lazy, but i need to learn korean so I dont have to use subtitles' It's a bad imagine on you, and those who like k entertainment and are ACTUALLY passionate and dedicated to learning korean

Ikr, i’ve always been interested in korean culture for such a long time especially because i’m half japanese and the 2 cultures are pretty close but so different at the same time. Once i discovered bts, i understood the culture even more and it really motivated me !!

Holy shit thanks for this comment , I only see people in the comments wanting to learn Korean just because of k pop and k dramas when they have no actual passion and dedication to learning the Korean language. It's like wanting to do sports just because your "oppa" likes it even though you have no interest in sports , like smh.

Yes, definitely! I discovered the Korean Language through watching my first kdrama. I immediately fell in love with the flow and sound of it. Korean is actually the first language I have liked other than English. I knew that I really wanted to be able to speak and write in Korean, even though I knew it would ruin the "subtitle experience" that I actually enjoyed. I continued watching kdramas and then got interested in the history and culture. I also then discovered kpop! I'm not learning Korean for the kpop or kdramas but because I truly love the language and country.

Have to disagree with this. While I personally did not study korean in uni because of my love for k-pop, a friend of mine did. And it definitely worked for her. Everyone is different.

Sorry but I’ve noticed a mistake in your notebook.. it’s not : LE semaine but LA semaine because it’s feminine not masculine (you say UNE semaine not UN semaine) .. (French is my first language)

The music one is something I like. It makes it easy to pick up on slang and different phrases used in other languages and cultures, because every culture and people have ways they speak that aren't exactly proper, but since it is so common, people just make it more and more normal to use those "short cuts" for example, Spanish and Mexican people both speak the same language and can understand each other fine, but there's just very minute differences and nuances to their slang that is hard to pick up on without knowing about the language and its rules.

helio; there are studies that link actual writing of notes as being far more beneficial than typing! You are correct! The connection made both neurologically and physically causes handwritten notes to "imprint" themselves in your memory.
