    No one addresses the cleaning of your GUMS! Please advise on the best way to rid your gums of adhesives.🙊 Follow up: I use a little coconut oil on my gums, and the adhesive comes off in a snap; try it!

    Thank you so much for this advice. I struggle so much with the adhesive removal, not only from my gums but from my denture as well. Can the coconut oil be used on the denture? Any suggestions on removal of adhesive from the denture itself? Also this gentleman mentioned using a toothbrush and it was my understanding that you should not use a brush made for teeth on your denture as it will leave scratches on the denture and the actual glaze on the teeth portion so your only to use denture brushes specifically correct??

    So happy to hear your appreciation . To allow your dentures to last , clean them daily, soapy water is best, although a toothpaste will also be ok (just not as good as it’s abrasive ) Don’t use electric tooth brushes as they can accelerate wear and tear . If you find then start to become loose, see your local Dental Prosthetist for either tightening of the clasp or potential reline . Lastly, enjoy the journey. Dentures are not perfect, although , they are an amazing alternative than no teeth at all 🦷😊

    I've had dentures for many years and eat crusty breads, nuts, chicken (not just the wings), chocolate, and other things you might not suggest. I've only lost 1 tooth in my lifetime of dentures it was from dropping it on a hard floor.

    That’s great to hear Jon. These foods are more damaging to people who have dentures with 1 or 2 front teeth on the denture as opposed to a full denture or no front teeth on the denture . Also some patients have deep overbites which in turn has thin plastic to support the tooth due to the overbite . In these cases. Which happens a lot, the strength of the denture is severely compromised . And eating these types of foods can end up in breaking single teeth from time to time . Thanks for watching anyways Jon .

    Do not use a standard toothbrush on your dentures. Brushes made specifically for dentures are the only brush recommended for any denture as all other toothbrushes will cause scratching in the thin coating covering the teeth on the denture allowing bacteria and plaque to attach much more easily in those areas that have been compromised.

    Great info. Im going for my first appt in may to get dentures. Im very excited because ive gone for so long without teeth..its embarrassing trying to talk to anyone or trying to eat without teeth..people are so judgemental and treat you different when you have bad or missing teeth. Its a blow to the self esteem and very depressing .im doing as much research as possible on what to expect while wearing dentures,how to take care of them ,what foods and drinks to avoid,the best fitting for the cost. How to get used to even talking with dentures. One of my biggest fears is to be talking or eating and my dentures flying out of my mouth. Into someones lap or in their dinner plate. Ha ha. I had a friend that got dentures and they were very uncomfortable because they didnt fit correctly he used a Dremel tool to make them fit correctly. .i never knew he wore dentures until he told me because they looked so natural. I lost my teeth because of medications i had been taking for years and they basically turned to chalk. I just wonder if those medicationa will harm my new dentures. I cant afford to ever replace them.

    Yes, I was so dissapointed after waiting forever to get them. Had to have like 9 I think it was and still had 6 bottom front teeth, they were already showing signs od decay. But the Dentist I found was for dentures only and he pull the teeth for that. I wasn't aware that he would either fill or pull the teeth he chose to leave I guess for anker teeth for the dentures. He said he would make two and I would have to wait a year for the final set. I knew it was because the gums shrink so went ahead. Finally received the teeth and thought they fit OK on that day. Well they never did fit, I could only wear the top ones and nothing held them tight. $6500.00 later and I just couldn't do anything because the Covid hit and after about a year and a half went in but he said I needed to get my bottom teeth pulled because he didn't think they would last but he had already made up partials for the lower and the teeth that were pulled would have to be added later. First I needed some other dentist to pull them. Needless to say I haven't been able to wear but the top teeth and they absolutely would not stay tight kept coming loose so I could not eat with them in. It's about 30 miles to his office one way so and still that Covington stuff I just couldn't get there and finally made to go but woke up what I thought was a broken hip and could go. He wasn't happy with me and I was thinking after all this time it will be another $1,000.00 or more to maybe finally get them. and. So just going to try to do this relief myself and hope at least the top teeth will stay in. So devastating to have to go like this because it's very ugly and people just hate to talk to you. I don't blame them because I never ever thought I would be so ugly.

    @@littlewolfspirit7373 No one should have to wait a year for permanent dentures. When you go for your impression of the top only....once the impression gunk is in your mouth (top only) make your lips like a bunny rabbit. It pulls in the gunk tight to your jawbone and your denture will fit perfect. I've never used anything to keep my in and it's been 9 years now. I paid _ $495.00. Hi, Generally the back staining can be caused from smoking , red wine, strong curries etc. although not always caused from them. Generally in 99% of cases, a clean once a day with soft tooth brush, soapy water or tooth paste should clean them. Manually cleaning is always best , and the tablets are an additive to manual cleaning. Maybe ask the clinician who made them , or a 2nd opinion, why they are becoming so black ? If you have used adhesive and they don’t work, maybe try denture pads. They are like a double sided sticky pad which can assist in holding them down . Goodluck with the journey. I know it can be hard at the start, but in time they do settle in …

    Why would you wait? You could have gotten IMMEDIATE DENTURES, right after (the day of) your extractions... So, I would call your dentist now. Possibly they could still make you an IMMEDIATE DENTURE now, if not- I think that they say that the healing process is usually 4 to 6 myths. But I had 17 teeth extracted on April 27, 2021 & received my IMMEDIATES right after also. I love that I have now, a beautiful smile. But my problem is now, learning to SPEAK again CORRECTLY & TRYING to learn HOW to EAT! I also got immediate dentures which helped me with appearances, and practicing some eating techniques, but so frustrating that I ended up eating only without the teeth. that being said, the permanent dentures they don't do until gums are fully settled, which takes at least 6 months. my dentist refused to do permanents until 6 months after extraction.

    Correct, tooth paste can have abrasives, we have seen over the years, that most denture wearers actually use tooth paste with no negative affects . I would suggest to not over clean with toothpaste, so keep to 1-2 mins , and a soft brush would be most ideal. Thanks for watching Derk

    Hi, It’s recommended to choose liquid soap as 1st choice . This can be hand soap, dish washing soap etc . Just be sure to rinse well Alternatively , toothpaste can be used. This is by far the most common way. Yes it’s abrasive , only slightly though. So if you brush the denture gently , with NO electric brushes , using toothpaste will do the trick. Some chemist even sell denture toothpaste which has no abrasives , although not many people go to this extra step and their dentures are fine. Hope this helps .

    Hi, soapy water is actually best. Exactly for this reason. It’s non abrasive . In saying that, a lot of pts simply don’t want soap on their dentures, and so they use toothpaste. I have seen 1000’s of dentures that have cleaned with toothpaste alone , and they have no obvious abrasion wear and tear. Using an electric toothbrush is a big no no as this will speed up the abrasion multiple x. Hope that helps

  • @thedenturecliniccanberra4968

    @thedenturecliniccanberra4968

    Hi , Generally this can be resolved . It would usually mean the teeth at the back bite down together and done leave enough overjet, which is just a term meaning how close teeth are to each other . If I ever have a patient who is cheek biting with their dentures , I can usually trim the teeth at the back slightly , (this must be done on the correct part of the teeth ) and this can resolve the issue . Any dental prosthetist will be able to do this for you . Good luck
