That definitely is a great perspective. I believe the reason most do not like exploring because they have been conditioned to believe that they are "losing our" or they have to "suffer" to be better. Phrasing the concept this way can potentially allow someone to shift in their thinking. I hope that made sense 💪🏾💜

That's a powerful quote and so true in many ways! 🌟 Gratitude has a transformative effect on our perspective, turning our focus from what we lack to what we possess. In the realm of Stoicism, gratitude is a reminder to appreciate the present moment and the simple blessings we often overlook. Do you have a personal practice or ritual centered around gratitude? How has it impacted your daily life? Thank you for sharing and sparking this discussion!

@@stoicbondWhat surprised me when I started factoring in gratitude to my daily life was even very small things can help lift your mood. Something like a good book or a nice cup of coffee or a kind word from a friend, when acknowledged instead of taken for granted, can really help change your perspective. It's very easy to fall into the trap of focusing on what we're missing in life, either what we've lost or never had in the first place. But the fact is that it is the nature of life to be incomplete. We can never have enough to completely satisfy us - it is a fruitless search for something forever out of reach or fleeting even if we briefly obtain it. If instead we can learn to appreciate the small gifts, the small moments, then we may find that the restless longing for more will be replaced by a simple peace of mind.

My family is Native American, and when service members return home, be it on leave or for good, they go through a series of ceremonies to heal within and without as well as get their headspace cleared up and aligned. The elders conducting these ceremonies talk gently to them, guiding them through meditations and encouraging them to release tensions and negative emotions/thoughts, and you'd be surprised how most Native traditional beliefs are basically stoic in principle. Some of our family have also brought non-Native fellow soldiers with them to get help they aren't getting in their own families or communities. They were welcomed as warriors and treated with honor and respect, and allowed to heal at their own pace. Incidentally, the Reflections of Marcus Aurelius is a favorite of one of those elders conducting the ceremonies, and he is himself a veteran. Stoicism used to be taught in military academies and according to my dad (USMC-Korea), was also a principle taught in the military at large as part of training. Personally, I think it needs to be taught to everyone beginning as soon as a child shows the ability to reason, certainly in school, and should continue throughout life. Society would no doubt be the better for it.

The reason Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan vets have some many problems is because they feel guilty for not being on the right side of the war. They were invaders foot soldiers of the corporate elite and politicians. They flew thousands of miles to slaughter poor people that never did anything to the American people their only crime was snubbing the politicians and standing in the way of the American agenda. I don't think any of you will ever have peace of mind about your actions, and because those actions were ultimately motivated by greed and the lust for power I don't know if you deserve peace of mind. Your conscience is there to remind you not to do evil.

Im positive all beliefs revolve around love, peace and your higher self. Its almost like there was multiple prophecies to hold onto the words of “God” and each prophecy wrote it in their own ways to be passed down that which we now call “belief” or “religion”. strange theory and insane but come on.. its a wild theory. 🧠 lol

It is the last thing I want to do, I have always disliked mornings, but after seeing the results of walking into sub 50 degree F water on a regular basis, It makes getting out of bed, walking to the beach, and taking a plunge so much easier, and its generally the most challenging thing of the entire day, out of the way first thing. Thank you for your offerings! Great channel. I just returned to The Stoics teachings this past year. I devoured them in college, but I was just too young and immature to practice with them. I knew in my heart that these GREAT minds would be a guide one day. I would utilize the wisdoms sitting with a therapist and my own writing. The older I get (52) the more I lean into The Stoics... finding a calm balance in this chaotic world. Aurelius and Seneca are a balm that heals. The "work" is pretty simple. What a relief to know that WE have that ultimate choice of our freedoms. Freedom of mind, heart and presence. I wish all that are here deep comfort and Peace! ☮☮☮

I have been journaling daily since 1976. The only thing my kids want of mine now, after I die, are my journals. They are fighting over them. That says how much they value family memories.

Hey @theenforcer22, thanks for watching the video! 💪🏼 I'm glad you found it helpful. 🙏🏼 That's an interesting observation about the ancient stoics' physical appearance it really is rather a representation of their strenght in mind and wisdom than phyisical appearence 💭

Thank you for presenting this information. Years ago through challenges and victory, I adopted a way of thinking that helped me. Do not get frustrated with today, it is here. Instead, focus on making plans and preparations for tomorrow.

Hey @valsptsd814, thanks for watching the video! 🙏🏼 I totally understand how the work of stoicism can be daunting and emotionally challenging. But you're right, that's the whole point! 🤔 It's through these struggles that we grow and become stronger. 💪🏼 So keep pushing through, and remember that the objective intellect is always there to guide us. 🧠 What's one thing you struggle with the most in your life?

@@stoicbond ptsd has made plain old self esteem a struggle. I try to work my life in smaller bites. I got out of bed and went to breakfast. If I can get in the shower today, I will be happy. I will be quilting, thats a nice quiet place to think.
