7 Things You Could See In NASCAR SOON

Спорт

NASCAR is always fluid in its shape, with so many changes over the years it can be easy to forget just how different the sport was ever 5 or 6 years ago. This also makes fans short sighted with how much things will changed in the short time to come and especially long term as well. So today I want to look at what we may possibly see heading into the second half of the current decade and into the next one. These are 7 things you could see in NASCAR soon.

Imagine NASCAR running a street race in a town, rather than a big city, that would be wild if each year or every few years they switched it up for a new street course, even in lesser populated areas, giving it a more relatable type of feel and back to the roots vibes

Oklahoma has a passionate fan base but hasn’t had a race in almost 70 years, I’d do a street race in Oklahoma City the Sunday following Bedlam. Yes, it would be a playoff race, but I think integrating it with the game weekend would generate a lot of interest. Also I want a Houston street race. It’s the 4th largest city in the country and has plenty of roads that would make for an interesting course.

When it comes to the international races, I think it is a great opportunity for NASCAR to gain new fans overseas, especially those that have become disillusioned with what F1 has become in recent years. The UK, Germany, Japan & Australia are all countries outside of Canada & Mexico that if NASCAR put a race there, it would be well attended. Indycar could have done the same but they have so many issues currently & going forward (like Honda threatening to leave) that I don't see them being in the position to do international races in the near future. I also think that the PNW will get a Cup Series race, specifically at Portland given how well attended the Xfinity race has been the past 2 years. Then when it comes to the broadcasting side of things, I think we will see more races on streaming (apart from the ones aired on Fox & the CW) as I think both NBC & TNT will try to put more races on Peacock & Max as a way of appealing to younger fans while still having them on broadcast/cable TV as well so that the older fans still have access to the sport.

  • @MatthewGross87

The change I want to see is the elimination of the playoffs and a revert back to a season long championship format. NASCAR is leaving so much money and viewership on the table because the playoff format sucks all the urgency out of the early season races after Daytona. Back before 2004, every early season race carried heightened energy and importance that just doesn't exist anymore due to the lame playoff reset. In the old format, NASCAR was able to use that urgency / more compelling early season product to capture and keep fans who just finished watching the NFL every Sunday and needed another entertainment product during that window. I hope they go back to that strategy again soon!

As much as I'd also like to see that happen, I'm convinced there's just no going back to it. Some changes to the current format may appear and I can imagine finally it has to change (as it's been ever changing for years) but playoffs/chase will be there forever and at least some form of elimination is also something they'll stick to for better or worse

From what john Hindhaugh/RLM crew said at last year's Nurburgring 24H our Rockingham was at that time prepping to re open in 2023 or 2024. Need to check if it still is or has opened by now. I always liked the BTCC and British GT races there though, but I do feel like NASCAR wouldn't work too well, look at how the CART races ended up, 2001 you had a great race, 2002 by the time the teams figured it out, along with rule and package changes, vastly different race. I'd rather see NASCAR come to places like Donington or Oulton as opposed to Brands. Brands is too short and narrow IMHO

It's crazy how much of a moving target Nascar always seems to be when it comes to changes. Unlike any other sport they are always changing something. Baseball, hockey, football etc.. they all stay consistent because that's what we've grown to love. But Nascar seems to think that evolution is crazy important. Don't get me wrong, you should always aim to grow, but we've spent the last 20 years fixing things that were good as they were and the ratings prove that..

Having more “Superspeedways” is a huge insult to not only the purest motorsports fans that care about actual competition, but the drivers and teams. It’s a terrible business and greedy decision. Sadly some of these moves are “skeptical”. Some of these moves are less about pure Motorsports racing and more about stuff that isn’t racing. Sounds like a copycat F1 kind of move. Use actual production car bodies. Allow any liquid fuel, including methanol. Allow higher fuel capacity. Race in rain or sunshine. Get rid of all the unnecessary cautions. Build a new super speedway with 5 mile straight with a road course inside the oval with drivers having to be able to tackle the road course and oval on every lap. One innovation I would love to see, for schedule compression, is double-header weekends at 2 different tracks. Many tracks east of the Mississippi River are only a few hours drive apart. Do a one day show (one hour practice, qualify, race) on Saturday, pack up and drive to the second site and do it again on Sunday. COTA/Texas, Atlanta/Charlotte Roval, Richmond/Dover, Iowa/Kansas are a few possibilities. Seeing two races, on two tracks, in one weekend would be awesome. They could offer a 20% discount for fans buying tickets to both races at the same time.

Chicagoland sucks. Even the straights are curved, so competitive laps can be driven without touching the braje. Gabassi has left the sport so there's no reason kept racing at his boring track. Time for a track interview Pacific Northwest. Calgary lost its 2 1/2 Mike road course and half mile banked oval, so if not Seattle then maybe Spokane. Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would be great but Toronto's Cabadiab Tire Park might be too fast for Cup cars.

It’s crazy how a sport that was created for oval racing is trying to move away from it when the car they currently have dominates on 1.5 mile tracks!
