Based on Luke’s reaction, 10,000 credits was probably a ridiculous sum for transport from Tatooine to Alderaan. Solo was price gouging them because he knew the cargo was hot and they were not in a position to say no. Also, Obi-Wan was probably rich asf.

You’re right. Han was 100% trying to get the full payment of what he owed Jabba out of the deal. Obi-wan instantly knew what he was doing so he offered a deal that would satisfy someone like Han while allowing him to pay the majority of it after he reaches his allies. Not sure what Luke means by we can almost buy our own ship for that, when at best they’d get some junky class 4 hyperdrive fighter with two seats to fit 3 passengers (assuming there’s an astromech socket).

Get a *Gonzanti class cruiser* for cheap, and then stick a bunch of _cheap_ *droid fighters* on the docking clamps. The Droid fighters could almost be considered disposable assets (they are cheap, but you wouldn't want to waste them unnecessary) when compared to the main ship. They provide escort if there's any sign of trouble (they can even cover the ship when it's landed and vulnerable … say from _being taken out by a turbolaser?),_ and if it's a _run for your life_ situation they can hang back and keep the enemy engaged and busy in a suicidal delaying action while the Gonzanti makes its escape. That's not something you would want to, or be able to, do with snubfighters piloted by close friends or family. And being a bunch of random tinkerers and so on, the droid snubfighters would probably not be wiped regularly and would develop interesting personalities and perhaps better skill levels and tactical thinking. This old tri fighter and his vulture droid buddy have been through a lot with me. … Isn't that right T2?

In Ep.4 Han quotes 10,000 as his price to take them to Alderaan, to which Luke replies, "Ten thousand? We could almost buy our own ship for that." So was Luke dreaming, was he thinking of serious junkers, or were there decent transport ships that could be had for ten thousand?

Luke's thinking might have been more along the lines that having the cash for a downpayment would be enough to "afford" a ship. There's a fair amount of IRL precedent for that, such as the predatory car dealerships near military bases. A lot of young, high-energy guys, with thousands in pay banked up over their training or deployment, who've just spent the last several months cooped up under strict supervision - taken together, these factors mean the dealerships are more than willing to offer Corporal J. Q. Public a hot deal on a shiny late-model Camaro, practically a steal at only 20% interest. Someone like Luke, willing to jump at any chance of getting offworld, would absolutely take that sort of deal if it meant he had keys in hand after forking over a downpayment.

Another ship that's really underrated in my opinion and gets you a whole lot of bang for your buck is the Lancer class pursuit craft. For about 120000 credits, this thing is a real bargain as it comes with plenty of space, a class 2 hyperdrive and backup class 12, and is absolutely armed to the teeth with 2 anti personnel laser cannons, 2 medium laser cannons, and a dorsal mounted, tri laser turret. And lastly the icing on the cake is that pretty much everything on the lancer from the weapons to the engines is modular, allowing you to customize your Lancer to suit your needs.

Since all of the life support is contained in the suit, the TIE itself doesn't need any changes. Makes the production runs and maintenance much easier since only one design is needed, instead of needing to take into account different atmosphere compositions and the effect on the cockpit circuitry.

For a good and cheap starfighter, I would recommend the Cloakshape fighter. Cloakshapes are a pre-clone wars ship that was 60,000 credits, with great speed, maneuverability, hull strength, and shields (if you're willing to buy that upgrade). On top of that, you'll get 2 laser cannons and 2 concussion missile launchers that can hold up to 16 missiles total. Of course you can replace this to have more storage if you want. For a hyperdrive, you'll have to buy that upgrade as well. Lastly, due to its age, the price of the Cloakshape dropped a lot. By the time of 10 ABY (10 years after the events of A New Hope in case someone didn't know), the Cloakshape was selling at the price of 15,000 credits! For pilots out there that want a good starfighter that's arguably the most affordable fighter in the galaxy, the Cloakshape is the ship for you.

As much as I have my heart set on a light freighter, possibly a YT-1000 if I can find one, I have to admit that the VCX Auxiliary Starfighter is VERY tempting. It's cheap, flexible and just barely large enough to live on (sort of). It would definitely do better than that YT series cockpit festooned with X Wing engines that my friend's putting together in his workshop.

Nice choice. My ship is from the D6 roleplay game. The 3-Z Light Freighter from Nova Drive which is like the redheaded stepchild of the YT series. Slightly redesigned to more of an oval shape than the yt-1200/1210/1250 it was based on, it sells for cheaper than the Yt-1300, has a less complicated layout. Maybe it's not onscreen canon but she still does it for me. Where everyone and his sister might want the YT-1300, I prefer the offbrand but still competitive 3-Z, which being based on YT designs, can use a lot of the fun aftermarket parts the CEC ships can (depending on how kind your GM is feeling at the time of course) We picked up ours secondhand, and although she had a few maintainence issues leftover from a negligent previous owner, with enough time and a lot of lubrication fluid, we managed to stop the grinding noise the ramp/cargo elevator made when in use and the way one of the landing legs hydraulics would stick when landing or taking off. Also the previous owner was either colorblind or eyes operated on a different spectrum because she was painted dark olive green with Gold/Bronze highlights. Our Captain though, insisted we keep the sickly livery. Good times were had aboard her though.

As cool as the standard variant, the Imperial Gozanti class is, I'm still partial the CROC variant, it's a bit bigger and much faster then then the standard, sure it doesn't carry as much guns come stock but it's still customizable that you can put on more guns. And it's more then double the price new but the amount of cargo, or mercs you can hold let's you more then make up for the cost. And just the design profile of it compared to the flying brick of that standard is just so sexy. But hey, we all gotta start some where so the basic Gozanti is more then enough for most folks trying to use.

I personally love the YT-2400 light freighter at 130,000 credits (35,000 used) it's not cheap, but a very good ship taking the best of the YT-1300 and upgrading it. Another option would be the YT-2000 very similar in design and function (with a center aligned cockpit) although it's a bit more expensive still a great option.

Kinda surprised that the ST-70 Assault ship, aka the Razor Crest, didn't make the list. Given that it was famously used by bounty hunter Dinn Djarin post-Empire. Bounty hunters routinely go paycheck to paycheck so it would seem likely that the Mandalorian's personal Razor Crest was no Cadillac, but more like an old beat up Chevy. Half of season one seemed to be centered around him repairing or rebuilding it, therefore I'd guess that those ships might be cheap to acquire.

Something I find kinda funny is how the Kom'rk-class fighter/transport, being 68 or 52 meters in length, costs 190'000 credits, while a T-85 X-Wing Starfighter, which is only like... 15 meters in length, costs 220'000 credits. I suppose the X-Wing models, especially the newer ones like the T-85 are very advanced which pump up their price dramatically, even compared to a ship as big as a Kom'rk-class.

Making it perfect for bounty hunting. It was commonly used by security forces for patrol purposes but was very popular with smugglers and crime lords such as Talon Karrde and Jorje Cardaas. Can find a used one for about 80k creds.

I couldn't find anything about it's price but it was mass produced like a lot of clone wars era ships and has a lot of creature comforts like shielding, a decent hyperdrive, and an astromech slot. A couple aftermarket tweaks could remove the rear gun, divert the responsibilities of the secondary pilot to the main cockpit, and replace that space with some decent enough living quarters. Could you talk about some of the musical shifts that have occurred in the new Disney Star Wars projects? In my opinion it’s a detail most people won’t consciously notice, but it is a huge component to the original success of the original two trilogies. John Williams did an amazing job at making emotionally driving music with easily recognizable Melodie’s that became iconic. Lucas himself even spoke on the fact that Star Wars was meant to be a space opera of sorts… The vast intricacies of the music matched the vast intricacies of the original films.. Now it’s simplistic pop oriented music that lacks emotional depth and easily recognizable character themes....it’s more on par with the Marvel films which similarly lack artful and memorable music. It’s copy and paste. I personally feel it lowers the potency of the stories, and strays from the original spirit of the films. Try to remember one melody from the Disney films … Check out the soundtrack to empire strikes back and then compare it to Solo, Rogue One, The Mandolorian, or Book of Boba…
