7 Money Personality Types: Which One Are You?

Like almost everything else in life, our response to money is largely dictated by our personality, life experiences, and beliefs.
And I've learned and have witnessed, how we often stress about the importance of financial literacy, such as gaining a strong understanding of how money works and having the resources to make informed decisions.
But one thing most people fail to consider is their money personality type and the impact and influence that has on their approach and emotional responses to money.

I completely agree with what you said! Once you get used to living frugally and under your means, once you finish paying off your bills, its hard to not keep that saving mentality! I'm definitely the compulsive/impulsive spender. I have an emergency fund, but I constantly struggle to understand why people would care more about having more money when they're old rather than being able to enjoy life and have fun experiences now when you're young, healthy and vibrant. It's never made sense to me. So it's hard for me to save more than the bare minimum that I need to for things like retirement.

Sometimes it takes as many as Four Days before I Bill I paid goes through and I get a Email to confirm that the Bill was Paid. When it comes to Holidays, I pay in advance because sometimes it takes as many as five days for a Bill to be cleared.

I am the free spirit type- I was a compulsive spender for a long time and ended up in a lot of debt :( I had to majorly change my life and attitude towards money, and “stuff”, to get my head above water financially again. In the process of paying off the debt I became a bit of a compulsive saver. I still hate making a budget and basically can’t stick with it, but I track all my expenses and do very much live within my means so it hasn’t become an issue again. I still get tempted by sales and have made a couple spontaneous unnecessary purchases over the past year, but nothing that broke the bank. I would like to be more methodical but my overall personality makes that a bit hard, lol.

I love how she doesn’t think twice about bringing joy to her family by purchasing food and new experiences. I definitely learned from her when it comes to finances. She told me that she can’t sleep knowing she owes someone money. My dad is the complete opposite. He will borrow and not think twice about it. I like to say rich mom, poor dad. I was raised frugal but my husband was a spender. We would map out a budget and he wouldn't include food in it, what? He wanted to spend every nickel. After signing two loans with him to consolidate bills and knowing what the money was really going towards I pretty much realized we were not going to work out. The best decision was to end it after 12 years. The current bf spends too much also, he has his house and I have mine and it works out just great!

Useful video ;) I am not sure what type i may be. I Was a compulsive spender during my twenties, mostly because i was a collector, which is just a word for shopping/hoarding pop culture merchandises. Now (thirties) i am more of a compulsive saver, i have budget for everything and keep track of my expenses and the amount of money i have in hands at any given moment BUT since i have budgets, i save way more and when the moment come to replace something necessary, occasionnaly go out with fancy friends or even buying something that i really want, i actually have this money available for this kind of expense, already waiting to be "eventually spent" in that category. Following some rules is such a stress relief. I also learned about myself that the second i spend money for something not necessary (collectable, sweets, "shopping" clothes) i want to continue. This "effect" is active for a few days and really difficult to resist. The few you spend, the more you realize the effect "acquiring" has on you.

My mother is very much like this, she's not just a penny pincher, she squeezes that penny till the eagle practically bleeds. Lately though she has gotten better about the importance of responsible financial utilization, not just saving your money, but also knowing how to invest it.

I sell as much as I possibly can that I don't use or wish to keep, save what I can and use only enough when I need to. When I feel like I loose money on something or have high expenses I feel the need to sell items that I can get from other people's decluttering (that they don't wish to sell themselves, so they give it to me instead) so as to balance it out some more. Sometimes I feel like I need new or different bed set or different/new curtains though. Sometimes I don't wish to have curtains at all. I think much of this for me has to do with change and wanting to find what actually fits in, essentially what I would truly love. That's the perfectionist in me speaking I guess. I buy clothes only when I find something that I need, truly enjoy looking at and like wearing. I live in a country which is basically cold all year round and has a summer period maybe two or three months each year. So I need several sets of clothes for each season. My clothes gets easily worn out so I have to keep looking out for new clothes each year. Besides from clothes and some textiles/linens I try to stay away from ornaments, although I am weak when it comes to antique candle holders from the 1700s, especially in tin. Saving money is my upmost priority though. Saving money for replacements when something is broken, refurbish and for buying a new apartment. I actually hate spending money, watching as my savings account decreases whenever I need to spend money on something (even though it's necessary, health wise or not). I do get happy every time I see the savings account grow. I have always, ever since I was a little girl, been conscious about money and been frugal to the point of not wanting to share with others. Right now I have so much stuff that I have stored in my home, things I've been given from others and my own that I've cleaned up. In fact, I have so many things stored in crates that I have trouble finding things that have been sold sometimes.. Which can be exhausting (stressful). Even though it's a lot of work, I know I'd rather have money for the things than just give it away, as it's money I look forward to put into my savings account.

I would say a free spirit: I'm indifferent to money and like to share it with others as much as possible... I save and spend on 'things' I like. I spend (not material things per se) : go for drink with a friend, staycations, education, go eat something with my husband, giving to a good cause: animal shelter or WWF or unicef etc every month). Sure I save for a rainy day but I'm still relatively young and like to spend it on making memories and giving a little back to others. Money is just paper that you use in life for the fun things. I also like to buy local, greener or more biological (cost more!!) but do my part for the planet and my local community. Life is a about balance: save some and most of all live some! I personally think it is sad when people let money take over there life and work in different jobs just to gain money. The time with friends and family is worth more then all the money on your bank account! That's my money personality/ attitude I guess.
