    Great video man. Surprised you didn't pre-soak the the bed before laying it down and follow up with the hose as soon as a row goes down. I hate spending that money and seeing brown edges. Another good tip is to make sure the sod doesn't dry out if you get it delivered a few days early. And most importantly, where did you get them awesome Gorilla feet?

    Just had a client have his yard completed. They put the sod on top of rocks, sticks, and even bent over trees! This is a $1M home and they did that! Had to have the owner call them up a few time because of overwatering and under watering. They didn’t even prep the sod or the ground. They just had a back hoe come in, make it as level as they could with their eyes, then started slapping it down. I waited 2 weeks before the 1st mow and had to stop due to swampy conditions. Had some come up into the mower deck as well. They cut some trees and left all the branches from it on the ground and the 3” stump about 5” high, then laid the sod. Found that the hard way. This is “reputable” company from Indianapolis, IN. Finally begged the guy to turn the water off for the winter cause it was killing all the grass. Most of it is mud now and has root rot. I had to push mow about 1.5 acres due to over watering.

Are there any sod farms in SL or Utah County that use Barenburg seed and if not are places you recommend in our areas that use good seed cultivars?

    watched you video and loved it I learned a lot. Just wanted to ask you questions in regards to prepping the sub-soil here in Oklahoma. I am going to lay Fescue sod but am really concerned about the clay that is probably the majority of yard. I plan on tilling and removing about 4 inches of the soil but don't really know what to do next. I thought some sand would be a good sub-soil but just don't know. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jake

    depends really. if you feel the soil is very hard and compact, i have clay based soil as well, then aeration, removing the plugs and pushing sand into the holes is a fanatastic idea. i have many videos about this called "lawn leveling". great way to amend the soil. but tilling in my opinion isn't necessary.

    Last year we put in plugs. This year clover from hell has taken over. I missed my time to use Tenacity because I had used the sprinkle version of clover killer and had to wait at least 3 months. When I put sod down I never have any gaps if u look at the sod the way they cut it at the farm if you put it down the same way it was cut also when you start a yard you cut 1 strip in half then Finnish that row with all long strips ur second row will be a full strip ur 3rd row will be a half strip and so on I have never had to put any kind of seed down because I've never had gaps. When u look at the sod you will see a dirt end and a grass end the part with the more grass end goes over the more dirt end that way you wont have gaps its basically putting it down just like it was cut

    I'm buying 9 sq ft rolls of sod to lay down. Is it as simple as L x W /9 to get my total number of rolls? My instincts are when I do that, I am not getting enough sod. Appreciate your thoughts.

  • @pestandlawnginja

    @pestandlawnginja

    Жыл бұрын

    That’s awesome. Longer the better. Just make sure you stagger them at the start to avoid lanes. I like to order 10% more. L x W gives you sqft. So then you’ll need to do the math on the 9’ piece, so if it’s 9 x 2 = 18 sq ft . Then you’ll divide your total sq ft by 18

    I purchased my current home about 1 and 1/2 years ago. 25 years ago weed barrier was used under rock in my current home. It is now showing up all over the place. Also, plastic mesh was used under sod. The netting, I believe, often comes with sod. It is now coming up and entangling in lawn mowers and weed eaters. I believe this was supposed to be biodegradable. I could be wrong as I did not own the home when this was installed. It obviously was not biodegradable. How do I get rid of this unsightly black plastic that is showing up from under the rock and the plastic mesh that was used in sod without tearing up my entire lawn? Please give me some ideas besides the financially untenable digging up of my entire property. Because of your recommendation I just purchased 2 of your recommended soil test kits and a huge bag of Barenbrug RTF Tall Fescue. Thanks for those recommendations

    ahh yes, the weed barrier finally giving up. horrible problem and I've been through it. there really isn't any other option othan that removing the rock and re laying a new barrier. super big hassle. As for the mesh. this stinks because the only option is to level the lawn and introduce more soil, preferrably sand to try and hold it in place. I would aerate the lawn 4 times over and remove the plugs then lay .25" of sand over the top and push it into the holes. the problem is this, it may or may not hold the mesh down. but there's really no other option that I can think of.

    I have a question that’s not about sods, but it is about seeding an area so I hope you don’t mind me asking here :). I live in a remote and rural area in northern Canada. We don’t have any professional landscaping people here. Last year I hired a some guys to come and tear up some stumps and a concrete walkway. They put soil down level with the ground...It was obviously not enough because if you stepped on it, you sank down. Now the snow is gone and the place where the walkway is has sunk down. I’m wondering if I tamped it and added more soil and the seed it if that’s the proper thing to do to have it level with the lawn

    13:39 Once new sod gets Roots down it's better to water deeply less often for better drought tolerance because it encourages deeper rooting when the surface is allowed to dry a little between waterings because this encourages the roots to seek out water deeper in the soil. Watering a rooted in lawn frequently with less water per watering just makes your lawn into a instant gratification water Junkie the demands water multiple times a week and protests attempts to cut back on watering frequency

    tough one. I've tried this with some friends a few times. spacing is the most difficult part to figure out and is different depending on the type of soil you have. sand soils require closer spacing as they don't soak up and hold the water. we have clay soil and spaced about 3 to 4 ft apart.

    My business is real turfgrass solutions. I never sod only seed and sprig (Bermuda).. it’s the only way to get a level lawn…. All the work you put into leveling is worthless with sod because they are never the same level cut…. You can see in this video that there are going to be bumps all over that lawn… will takes years of top soil/sand leveling to get ready for a reel mower cut lol
