Then I will show you what the join will look like on the front of the work and on the back of the work so you know what to expect and how you would want to utilize that particular join. After all 7 demonstrations I will show you how you could go about attaching more granny squares to your join as you are expanding your project and then following that I show you how I go about joining granny squares going the opposite direction and how I maneuver over the join.

I have used several of these methods to join the granny squares of my many projects together. I also use small 6 inch pieces of yarn to keep my squares "squared" off and plumb as l am working the squares together. This works very well with large afghan projects and gives a great final squared away look to the blanket. I am now trying the circle in a square pattern and l hope to learn the puff stitch soon. My daughter has five afghans, my wife has two and my grandson also has one. All three brag about grandpa's work. Thanks for a great and very informative video.

The monochrome square that appears on the side was fantastic idea so I can now refer to them if I do monochrome squares. Thank you over and over.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make such an in-depth video about all the different methods of joining. Many videos do not go into how to join more squares. This tutorial is one of the best on the internet. Again many thanks for such a wonderful tutorial.

You are a life saver. I'm starting my first temp blanket this year and I'm kind of creating my own patteren based off of a pic I saw on pinterest. Until now, I've never made a granny square. I knew what I was looking for in a joining stitch, i just couldn't figure out how to make it happen. I watched SEVERAL videos, then up pops yours. The reverse sc. Ive used that stitch in another project and got very good at it. Once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty quickly. I never would've thought to use it to connect these squares. You are amazing!

Thank you so much, the slip stitch and chain is a project saver - a beginner knitter has asked me to crochet her knitted squares together but they are very irregular in places and sometimes varying in size. This should give me flexibility in the join by varying the chain size where necessary - fingers crossed so that I can try then to even up even further by adding a border.

I’ve used the mattress stitch on garments which creates an invisible join on both sides of the work. It’s really neat how the yarn just “disappears”. I’ve also used the “join as you go” method for the mile-a-minute strips, but have not tried it on granny squares…wonder if it would work. I recently used the single crochet to join my hexi blanket and like how fast it went. Thanks for showing all these different ways in one video. It’s an awesome resource!!

I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to teach both of my sons how to knit and crochet. While discussing the upcoming summer plans with my youngest, he informed me that he has started working on a cardigan using triangle motifs. I asked him if he was using a pattern and he informed me he was "just making it up as I go along." He was originally thinking about just sewing them together, but I reminded him that by crocheting them together, he could use a different color to help "make it pop." I stumbled across this video while looking for some inspiration to pass along to him and this video is PERFECT!!! He's a very "colorful" teenager and I know that he'll come up with something fun. 😁 Also, I am crocheting a baby afghan for my boyfriend's niece using a pattern I recently stumbled across called a "Stained Glass Granny Square." I LOVED the look of the pattern and thought it would make a wonderful baby afghan if done in pastels instead of the colors that were demonstrated. I've got about half of the squares done, but I was still trying to decide how I wanted to join them together. After watching this video, I think I've finally decided what I want to do. I'm probably going to do a "creative" version of #7 (based a bit on the way the squares are initially done). I was starting to lose a bit of momentum on this project, but this has helped to motivate me to get going on it again! Thanks SO MUCH for such a superb video! You helped me "kill two birds with one stone." 😉😉 I will have to check out your channel later to see what other "goodies" you have lurking around. 😁

Great tips and examples. I just used the slip stitch (aka zipper) join on a project. It was a little bit fiddly, but turned out quite well and so flat. I even like the look of it on the wrong side. The join can be an additional design element to your project. Appreciate the playback speed info, too. - Paula

I am relatively new to crochet and have been using a slip stitch through all four loops as opposed to either just front or back as in # 5 and 6. It goes really fast and makes a large ridge on one side but is almost invisible on the other. Thanks again!

You can also join granny squares using the last row of the square. This method let's you join each square as you complete it and you can produce lace or blankets with less gaps. This means that you do not need to worry about joining after completing all your squares and you use any stitch combination to join the squares. 😀

To join as you make your squares, complete the first square, then when you reach the final row of the next use the same pattern stitch but alternate between the first and second squares along one side. In the tutorial the last method, (if I remember correctly), demonstrated stitches between two squares. With a little experimentation you can join most squares this way. It is great for lacy squares as the 4-way corner joints add a whole new repeating pattern.

This is f4om an old pattern: [8 ch., 1 d.c. into next ch. sp.] twice, 5 ch., tr.4tog. into next ch. sp., 2 ch., 1 d.c. into one corner 5 ch. sp. of First Motif, * 2 ch., tr.4tog. into same ch. sp. as previous tr.4tog., 2 ch., 1 d.c. into next 5 ch. sp. of First Motif, 2 ch., [1 d.c. into next ch. sp. of Second Motif, 4 ch., 1 d.c. into next 8 ch. sp. of First Motif, 4 ch.] 3 times, 1 d.c. into next ch. sp. of Second Motif, 2 ch., 1 d.c. into next ch. sp. of First Motif, 2 ch., tr.4tog. into corner ch. sp. of Second Motif, 2 ch., 1 d.c. into corner ch. sp. of First Motif **, 2 ch., tr.4tog. into same ch. sp. as previous tr.4tog., and complete Round as for First Motif. Fasten off. This looks complicated but is easy to do once you get 2the hang of it. Hope this helped.
