I have a H SA. Known her for years. I have a decent purchase history. Long story short, my daughter was given a men’s scarf from H. Something she would never wear. We went to H. Turns out the scarf was purchased 7 months prior to the gift being given. It may have been a re-gift. H graciously accepted the return as an exchange. This is why building a relationship is important.

I hear you about the loyalty points and whatnot, but whenever I'm in London and want something, I generally go to Selfridges and/or Harrods and they don't have it in stock; I go to Bond Street or Sloane Street and they're like sure, here it is!

I love these tips! If I was just starting out, this is exactly the kind of video I’d look for when navigating my first purchases!! One tip I’ve learned through the years is that, just because you love a brand, doesn’t mean you’ll immediately have a great in-store experience (eg: finding the right SA from the jump). Louis Vuitton for example took about 7 purchases across multiple boutiques before I found the right one, whereas YSL, Prada, Gucci, and even Chanel it was like, from the first interaction, I knew I clicked with them! 💕🙌🏽

Having an SA has made my shopping experience so much better in my favorite brands! Just last month my SA did a work around to let me walk out with shoes that weren’t available for sale for weeks! I got to try on all the goodies before they dropped! BTW I owe you a thank you! I knew about Fendi but I just associated them with peekaboos and all the logo stuff, but once you showed your baguette phone pouch and some of the Fendi TBE, I ended up going in and getting some of my favorite pieces and getting the best SA! So thank you! ❤

Great tips Cassie! Here are 2 from my experience: -few brands actually produce all their runway looks (especially RTW) which can be frustrating), or what they produce is a variation of runway which is annoying -the pre-order game can be a bit of a scam, as many times the items are very available when they drop in store (Fendi I’m looking at you).

Former CA here, will recommend having a CA in flagship stores for preorders, they get the most priority for pre orders as I ran into that issue with my own clients 🥲

Also, if you live in fashion ‘capitals’ like Paris and Milan you’ll soon realise fashion people don’t buy full price, and often not even at regular sales. Family and friends sales, sample sales, … fashionistas are in the fashion bubble and spend way less you might think!

I've gone to some stores, and the SA's were so horrible that I never gone back. Thats why I go to small boutiques so I get personalized attention. Makes a difference! Some places have good products and craftsmanship but the personalities in the store are hard to handle so I put off going back to them untill I need repairs etc. They lose me if they are rude everytime though. Say good by to my money. I'll find better places with nice people.

i think finding an sa is probably the more important one. granted a lot of sa's at fendi are nice, it does make it a lot nicer to shop with someone.

Hawaii - most brands are 10% off, service overwhelmingly positive and welcoming. Wanted a specific Loewe back which wasn’t in store, the store shipped it in 2 days and sold to me for 10% less then mainland plus the tax is about half what it would be in home state.

Cassie, having an SA is almost impossible and useless in LA at certain stores. Celebrities and influencers have the priority and being a great client pales to the way celebrities spend . So, 23 years in LA and a ton of luxury items later, I still don’t have an SA in some stores. 🤦‍♀️

If you can, shop at South Coast Plaza in Orange County. The SA's I've worked with are happy to build relationships, although I can't speak for Hermes (not my thing). I've read that SCP is one of their busiest stores, so that might be a challenge. Also, sales tax in Costa Mesa is about 2% lower than everywhere else in the area, which can add up pretty quickly if you buy a lot.

Get an SA out of state when traveling. They can be kinder than locals and more responsive. I’ve actually never met my favorite department store SA for more than 15 years, we made contact through a friend, but he can sometimes locate things for me at sale time even when they hit at 50% off. Such great service.

Japan is another amazing luxury buying country! amazing service, tax free, yen is low and SOOO MANY STORES - department stores too. they have like 5 (ish? cant remember) goyards in tokyo...for example

True about Hawaii having less expensive luxury items. Also lower tax at 4.5% as opposed to 10.25% here. They are in their own pricing zone. Over the decades, I've purchased items there when I have zipped over for a long weekend to get some R&R. And my regular hotel is on the side street to LV and only one block away. It worked out great in my LV days. LOL! But, I also liked the other stores there, like Vivienne Westwood when it was in Waikiki and also Gucci which is still there near LV in Waikiki. Great tips! Maybe should use my air points to get to Paris! So much other good shopping there too: Cezanne, other smaller handbag makers etc etc…

I had the opportunity to shop at the department store El Corte Ingles while in Lisbon on my vacation there from Canada. First I received a tourist card and was able to get 10% off all of my shopping. Then as I shopped, I accumulated points that could be used on subsequent purchases across all brands. Lastly, I was able to apply for the VAT refund in-store by showing my passport. I received my refund right there in-store and just had to scan my boarding pass and the document provided at the airport when returning to Canada. I was able to buy a belt and sunglasses from Isabel Marant and sweater from Ba&sh.

Chanel does do returns in most US stores unless it very recently changed. It is for a short period of time.

Stockholm, Sweden offers 17 or 18 % VAT return and they have amazing chanel collection as well as hermes and other luxury brands :)

As a former luxury SA. 1. Don’t be a drainer, do not drain my time spending forever going through collections or hours/days deciding on purchases and endless returns. We won’t look at you favourably and we will be nice to your face and hate you and never go out of our way. 2. If you want something hard to get two things bumped people to the top of the list. Buy me a gift, something little is fine (bottle of wine/perfume/scarf) but it shows appreciation and I will bend every rule and fight with staff to get you that hard to find bag that is one in the country, also make me laugh or be generally pleasurable. I had a mental rule that if you picked up a repair and could make me genuinely laugh you get the repair for free.

Loyalty points and promotions are like free drugs to get you hooked into spending more and more with the store because you will almost always go over the voucher value. They are continually taking money from your wallet and into theirs as you actively search for something to buy that you probably wouldn’t if you didn’t have that discount. Beware.

I recently purchased quite a few things from LV near me. I thought I was developing a relationship with an SA. When I asked if she had a card or anything she said they don't do that anymore and that one would just have to call the store. So IDK. 🤷‍♀

Random question: What is your ring size and what size did you get your Chanel Ultra ring in? I am 7 on my ring finger, but I also want to wear it on my middle finger like you do. I was sized an 8 at another store (not Chanel) since my finger might swell in the summer, just curious since the exact style is also no longer carried so I would need to buy secondhand.

Pretty much all designer boutiques only do vouchers or exchange upon return these days☹️ The thing is those vouchers are valid for a year, you better be very sure before you buy something

I don’t know about that quality thing on “Gucci across the board thing”. 2010 is when I dabbled with Gucci -bags and shoes and both deteriorated so badly it’s not even funny 😅. Meanwhile, I have never had any issues with Goyard and I’ve been collecting since 2007. Of course there’s natural wear and tear for Goyard bags that are already nearly 10+ old but at least for me I haven’t had issues.

sometimes you get a better deal going preloved. of course it all depends on brand and style. but perfect example is the lady dior, you get it at a steal.

Having an SA relationship has been good and bad for me: one year Cartier and I were especially chummy and my SA invited me for a surprise birthday party! She had cake, champagne, chocolates and balloons set up in a back room for me! On the bad side, sometimes I feel bad when an SA reaches out with a special offer and I have to decline. I do have a few guilt purchases though.

Yes!! To all this! I am an Amex girl too! And Amex allows me to spend BIG 🙈🙈 Every month! My girl math is, how many houses can I buy and live in anyway? So why not convert those to luxury buys?🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣 SAs are the best card in this business of luxury addiction. My top SA in descending order of magnitude are from: MyTheresa, Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, Net-a-Porter, Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Dior, Versace. MyTheresa gives the mother experience of them all. In every sense of the word! Every single time.

Luxury is about exclusivity so these brands make you put effort into purchasing from them. I don’t shop luxury although I like the artistic side of runways.

my first tip to myself is make more money so i can actually afford things. ahhaha

Buying from the country of origin is not always a wining strategy. I found an item from Bvlgari in IST airport 1.5K cheaper than in EU, Van Cleef in UAE was 800€ cheaper than in EU, so do you homework before traveling. Paris is not the ultimate destination when it comes to price and range.

The best luxury advice. If you are not sure, don’t buy it
