    One of the things I threw out, is the label people try to stick on me. I'm an old woman and a minimalist but I study, do woodwork, sewing and weekly food prep for my adult children; All while renovating walls, ceilings and woodwork. My home is a mess but I'm still a minimalist. You inspire me. I watch your videos to see what my home will be like when I'm done. Thank you

    I’m happily decluttering day by day. So much I don’t miss and need. I’m enjoying my freedom from excess and unnecessary possessions.

    A couple of years back, I was unorganized and had a mess. One day I needed a important paper and I could not find it. I searched all day, yes all day and finally late at night I found the important paper that I needed. That was my breaking point and I decided to organize my papers and clothes. Just like you, I did not have a plan. Now I have less clothes, miscellaneous things and less papers. I donated a lot of clothes and shredded so many papers. I now have my clothes organized and my papers are organized too. I still continue to declutter and shred. I only bring in something if I need it. I always relook through each areas of my home to see what can go and you are right it does get easier to declutter.

    One benefit I've found to our newly decluttered home (thanks to you!) is that ny children FINALLY tidy after themselves! It's a lot easier for them to know where things go, and there isn't too much to put away at once.

    I loved this entire video. Our family have been practicing Minimalism for about seven years. Just like a doctor, this is a practice, so sometimes we make mistakes. We all have our different specialties, just as doctors do, but we are all Minimalists. Everything you said was truly on point, especially the functional reasons to decrease items.

    I’m addition to great content, this video is technically so well done. It flows well, your voice is clear and well modulated, the editing is terrific and you easily bring us in your journey. Such a pleasure to watch!

    Love your tips. I actually enjoy going back time and time again to declutter more from an area. I laugh when i get rid of something and remember thinking oh i cannot get rid of that item. It gets so much easier. xxxxx

    I remember reading Thoreau decades ago and thinking that I had to quantify my minimalism. Thoreau says we should be able to count what we own on our fingers (and if necessary, our toes). So I arrived at 20 as my magic number. With the wisdom of age, I realize that he is just trying to make me be more deliberate with my actions and possessions. Not to quantify them. I appreciate how you didn't disparage being minimalist or minimalish or minimalistic. It's about the intention, not the definition. Thank you!

    I love your home! Same colors as mine. Do you keep gift bags, wrap, and ribbons on hand, or buy them as needed? I have so many but struggle to let go knowing I will have to buy them later!

    We do the same thing with gift bags for xmas. If the bags haven't been shredded or damaged to the point of being trash, we save them for the next year. Of course they show a little bit of wear, but we only replace them every couple of years by doing this. Using reusable bags works well too because you can get them in so many patterns and materials.

    I try to be a minimalist but my partner doesn't think like that. Do you have any advice regarding that?

  • @ros8986
    @ros8986Ай бұрын

    There is a sense that it can be One and Done - in that it is possible to only have to do one huge initial declutter, and then after that just occasionally review a few things here and there, notice what you are no longer using, or no longer using as frequently so these can be stored away or in a different place.

    Very helpful. Thank you! I’m now struggling what to do with old CD music and workout DVD’s. Should I throw it away? Since I thought that it will be hard to sell since there is Spotify and YT now…. Any advice?

    Keep them. They are coming back! Throw the covers away and get a cd/DVD holder to store them. They take up very little space.

    Get yourself a portable hard drive and rip all of the content onto it if it's something you use somewhat regularly. Then donate the physical media, we did that with a lot of ours and it's saved so much space. Now if we want to use a piece of media, like a workout video, we plug it into the tv and we're good to go. We label the hard drive too, of course, so we don't use it.
