So glad you covered this route! The train does look amazing from the outside, even with some of the issues on the inside, i still think it’s a solid train! Always glad to see other competing companies in Italy!

Although, I wouldn't say it's competing really (if anything, the EC is a collaboration between DB, FS and ÖBB) and infact, advertised as such on Trenitalia's website

@@gabri_maybe well it’s still a 100% Austrian product. So at least in the idea of what a good intercity train should consist of there is direct competition. It was commissioned, constructed and built in Austria so also on an economic level there is a competition here

Mind you, I know the loading gauge is slightly wider than the British one, but I suggest that they export the older intercity coaches over to the UK to make use of them.

If Europe is facing a future with reduced air travel and a much greater emphasis on trains for long distance journeys, then this route especially is gonna become one of the most important passenger lines in all of Europe! So its great to see new modern trains and route upgrades along it to make it better! I just wish the prices would be lower, seriously over 100 euros in standard class ain't doing you any favours ÖBB.

The train is usually full so for ÖBB this is fine. It's just society in general that suffers because people still flock to cheap air travel. But honestly, air travel should be taxed heavily given how much external cost it imposes on society. The current prices are insane.

Just so you are aware. There are 3 types of Taurus locomotives, the 1016 class, the 1116 class and the 1216 class. Most of the locomotives are 1116 class, but they can only be used on Railjet services that do not travel into Italy, as they are not capable of operating on the Italian voltage. I'm not sure how many 1216 locomotives there are, but these are the only Tauruses that can operate this service. They are also the only ones that can operate the 90s stock trains.

Replying to my own poat, there seem to be several vatiations of the 1216 class. There are 3 versions of the reihe 1216, each with different train control systems and can therefore be used in different countries. Thank you for this interesting video. I like the RailJet 2 carriages, but agree with you about the rather odd provision for level boarding. It’s good to hear that the OBB are maintaining their high standards for on board service, for I prefer to have my food served at my seat !

You know what are truly great train carriages? The old ÖBB SGP coach cars. INstead of going for the original railjet, they just should have kept making those and maybe add a steering car.

I thought the food looked tasty. I don’t see any issue with most of what you showed other than the stairs issue. I can see those locks breaking easily through overuse. There key pad looked like plastic that could warped the buttons with people pressing too hard.

  • @mysticaloreo9278

    @mysticaloreo9278

I don't think the stairs "issue" is really an issue, rather a design choice. If you're not very mobile you're perfectly fine to stay in your car, and you can easily find your car on the platform before it departs. Maybe it sucks if you wanted to go to the dining car, but wheelchair userss weren't able to do so anyways already. The other option was high boarding with the traditional stairs, which they clearly didn't want anymore...

The reservation fees and availability of seats in high speed services really impedes the flexbility of an interrail pass. Nice when you want to hop on and off locally but makes no sense when covering bigger distances.

Btw, I believe the editor of the video did not completely do their homework. As far as I understand, the supplement has nothing to do with the high speed network. It is because the part from Brenner to Bolzano is owned by a private company who choose not to participate in interrail.

Siemens decided to place the doors near the bogies, so ramps are not really an option.

  • 20 күн бұрын

Also unlike on the Giruno, the wheels are larger, so the bogies are higher too. So there's a bigger height difference to overcome.

I believe another reason for the longer stop at Brenner Station is because while the Italian side uses 3,000 volt DC overhead power, the Austrian side uses 15,000 V 16.67 Hz AC overhead power. This may require a change in locomotives in some cases unless the locomotive can switch between these two power sources.

Why i dont like this train: few bicycle stands, gangways are too small, toilets are gendered and have no differences, Usb A ports are kindof outdated, Wireless charging is a waste in Money and not used by most people What i like: More 2nd class seats, everything else is great (but they should ditch the buisness class and make a bicycle and child boogie compartment)

I took the train two weeks ago and I wasn’t so enthusiastic as you. Legroom for longer persons isn’t so roomy. For me as an 1,90 m guy it was a bit too narrow and I didn’t liked it. It was the meaning of booking a first class seat to avoid this problem, but it didn’t worked. Very sad. Also the view is not fine from most of the seats. Only the face to face seats have optimal view, very frustrating.

Loved your video, again! However, I do think Siemens n OBB dropped the ball on this RailJet. You’re right, not really revolutionary. Boeing actually suffered a lottt over a decade ago with this ridiculous in-shell seat design, nobody liked not being able to recline! Airlines had to phase it out, n now OBB come back with it?!? On long distance?! Cathay Pacific could only sell discounted tickets on their inshell seat aircraft after a while on shorter haul flights to Singapore cos those seats were so wildly unpopular - in economy, not even premium class! N don’t get me started on that new business class…. Overall I’m very disappointed with OBB management cos it seems they only care about making money and sucking pax dry with ridiculous international prices, instead of thinking logically to attract passengers from flying. How will the majority of people stop flying n take the train with uncomfortable solutions, delayed international trains and ridiculous prices? OBB, Siemens, EU member state governments have to pull their heads out of their ….s n start thinking normally if they want people to travel by train instead of planes internationally. We are not seeing really valid alternatives right now.

Honestly I'm not a fan of the Railjet 2 AT ALL. It's awful. I've been on a 2nd and a 1st class trip so far. What I hate the most is the (imo) TERRIBLE interior and those stupid ass "benches". It all feels just really really stuffed and like there's just... too much. Sitting in 2nd class as a rather tall and muscular person was a NIGHTMARE. I was cuddling with the person next to me (which was my gf so it was fine but I wouldn't want to cuddle a stranger because if feels like there's just noooo space). 1st class isn't THAT much better. Of course there's more room for each passenger and you're not sitting on their lap (unlike in 2nd) BUT why make it a stupid ass "bench" too? Why not stay true to the Railjet 1 singular seats? It just feels like there soooo much less privacy when the seats are connected and therefore that much closer together. Especially on first class I want my space. I'm paying for it. If I wanna feel close to a stranger I'll get a hooker. Great video but personally I really dislike the RJ2.

Depending on the waves of migration during specific periods of time, and the occasional alert about criminals trying to evade the authorities, immigration and custom officers board trains and check the documentation of passengers. It happens more often at some border crossings, but it may occur between any two countries in the Schengen zone. That's why the facilities are still standing, and in most cases staffed.
