Liverpool back in the day were notorious for getting players from the lower divisions putting them into their team and getting great success out of them so it has indeed worked before and signing expensive foreign players isn't necessarily a recipe for success either as has been proven on numerous occasions

Just to note from a Burnley fan Alfie, we had to let Weghorst go on loan because there was an agreement in place that if we got relegated he could go to play in a top league to attempt to retain his place in the national team. Van Haal told him he would not play unless he was competing at a top level.

Despite already being February our league hasn't started yet (Our league runs in a calendar year, not half and half of two years), due to issues with TV rights and broadcasts. 8 teams have outright refused to participate in the competition, and it's a story that really doesn't have much coverage right now but when you think about it it's a pretty mental situation It just shows yet another sign of the absolutely terrible state of Peruvian football, which seemingly has been in a constant decline for who knows how long, and reflects the ever present chaos that affects my country for as long as I can remember It's a long shot, but hey, you never know

@@matttyce903 It's most a two way problem really Originally the league couldn't start due to all the protests happening around the country, including things like blockaded highways so it was dangerous to actually start it But the issue with the 8 teams is regarding broadcasting issues. The FPF (The Peruvian FA) signed a contract regarding broadcasting of the league with the company 1190 Sport. But the 8 teams that refuse to take part of the league have a contract with GOLPERU, and they don't want to rescind their contract to instead sign with 1190 Sport, while the FPF argue that all teams are already under contract with 1190 Sport. It's a mess but hey, that's Peru

I’d put Joselu in the list, he’s on loan at Real Madrid from Espanyol at the age of 33. Pretty decent loan move. He was at RM around 2010, but only played once for them before moving on then to come back near the end of your career must feel like a dream.

Even if it was intended as a bit of dark humour it went on waaay too long for a bit that was considered original or funny a few decades before Alfie was born. Especially when you consider how niche the topic is and that it's relatively recent, it's not really infamous enough for most people to know without explaining which probably contributed to what's normally a quick 2 second gag into a 2 minute ramble Couldn't care less if someone used a killer as a punchline, I've done it myself, but this bit just falls flat
