I rewatched this video and I have found this once again, a helpful and easy refresher for my current project!
This was a great video! I love how you went back over each step as you moved forward.
I love seeing the way you position your fingers together. I'm in a class with some beginner throwers and I think some dont recognize how much easier it is to build walls when you start from a curved dome position, rather than keeping the shape entirely at a right angle from the beginning. Great steps!
Thank you
thank you! I’ve had 9 classes but this video taught me more 😆
Kind soul. You give out knowledge.
I am a beginner and this video is invaluable! Thank you!
Brilliant! Step by step demonstration of cylinder throwing is exactly what I needed to see!
"moment of truth" and he laughs! I love how humble you are!
Thanks for the review. Always welcome.
Kiln and wheel have just been installed! You have been an inspiration!!
Gracias ❤Genio POTTERY

Never tire of the basics....Thanks for this Deja vu video......still practicing
This will be extremely helpful. I have such a hard time doing. Have to practice more. Thank you for filming these steps!!
Very helpful to have it all broken down into 7steps. Thank you Simon!
You are an amazing instructor
Thanks for the video. Just beginning on the wheel. I can definitely see how "practice, practice, practice" on a cylinder is exactly what is needed
Wonderful teacher about a fantastic dirt to art and function medium. Thank you and keep creating
Thank you for the very detailed breakdown
Hi Simon, just wanted to say you're awsome!
Thank you Mr. Leach!!
You are absolutely correct, basics are the foundation to any skill. No shortcuts, just building skill, takes time AND learning from someone who controls those basics. So, thank you for taking the time for me.
Massive thank you! It has been super helpful!
Thank you Simon.
Very helpful. Thankyou. Everything clicked now.
Hola Simon! Hace tiempo no te veia! Siempre tan cálido y didactico. Un gran abrazo para ti. Te saludo desde Argentina.
Thx will give it a try! Always struggled with doing the cylinder.
Thank you Simon, it a big help!!
Thank you very much for this video. It was very insightful and helpful to me. I believe I saw the mistakes that I was doing that you proved incorrect. Again thank you. 😊
Thanks Simon! That was a big help. :-)

Super helpful. Thanks so much!
So great, thank you
Thank you !!
Wow - the 2018 edition!
Bravo!!!!!
Thank you very much Simon. I have one question, how wide did you spread the cylinder? So it’s 5 inches tall how wide? And thank you for such a clear and concise video I shall practice.

Did you ever find this out? I am also curious about this 😅

@@ggrailbingham I think he mentioned it in another video that he doesn’t really measure it. 🤷♀️
Fantastic Simon off to. Do some practice
Hello from Japan. Been "doing" pottery for a number of years, and I have become determined to be able to throw a pot WITHOUT luck. My goal is to eliminate the "happy accidents," if I can. Thank you very much, Leach-sensei, for your good encouragement! (By the way, I wonder if you ever received that caricature of grandad with Hamada-sama (sent, from Mashiko, to your email under my real name... ; )

That's exactly how I feel, thanks for bringing it on the point
I’m new to throwing still learning but question that floor has plenty of thickness to trim a foot?
A very useful review of the process. You say 12oz should make a 5" tall cylinder, but what is the diameter?
@11pleon

Probably just big enough to put your hand inside

I tried this today and mine was 5 1/4" tall and 3" in diameter, but I made the base a bit too thin.

Mikedartagnan - 3" wide is good !
Lol, almost a full year later and I suppose that only the two most stubborn people in the world, who refuse to throw a cylinder properly, has made their voices known with a thumbs down. Hahaha (Who would thumbs down this video???)
What is the base diameter?
