So glad I came upon this video.I"m a 70 year old retiree.I"ve slipped into a life of slothfulness.I spend my days going from bed to couch watching TV and listening to the radio.I walk by messes all day long, but do nothing about them.I'm not suicidal, but feel like I'm ENDURING rather than living life. The shackles are definitely in place. As you said,I hope admitting this will propel me to take action.

And don't hope, make it happen. Hate the slavery and do something about it. Start in a little ways. But just start doing something new. And keep doing it. Otherwise you will stay in the same bad habits. In addition, watch an inspirational and spiritual video or two each day to keep you going. God bless you.

This is just what I needed, I have been going through some things where I tend to dwell on the negative outcome of things even if it's not negative at all. Everything around me at times seems to just pile up. I started washing the dishes and watching your video lol this has really helped me have a better perspective on my situation. And I'm coming out of being slothful. Thank you !

There's a scene in the film Breaker Morant where, in his dream, he's before a firing squad. He asks the captain of the guards who are about to execute him, "For what crime am I guilty?" And the captain replies, "For living a wasted life." That scene has haunted me. Sloth has always been my sadness, even when I was an atheist and called it procrastination. Now that I've been dx with bipolar1, I can see the effects of sloth on my physiology. It's brought me to my knees & only with His help & stregnth AS I PRAY AND ASK FOR IT, will I move foward. It's a sad & heavy, heavy thing, but He can lift it because His burden is light & His mamma's a strong teacher! Praise the Holy Spirit! 🔥

Thank you! Your videos are fantastic. I am not Catholic, but you are so refreshing to listen to and I get so much out of your channel. I do struggle with this sin. It isn't deliberate, I am just usually so afraid that the things I want to do won't amount to anything. My biggest struggle is with my art. In an age where there are so many hyper-talented genius-level creators, it just seems hopeless to put any real effort towards it, although I know it's a gift from God and this is what He wants me doing. How does one overcome this timidity? I know that God does not give us a spirit of fear. I have been through a lot of trauma in my life... And it has left me feeling very broken and constantly beaten down. I don't want to be hindered by this victim mentality anymore.... I want to embrace the gifts that God has given me and enjoy them, rather than constantly feeling like "there's no point" every time I pick up a paint brush. Thank you Bryan. God bless you!!!!!!!

Don't despair. Conversion or spiritual healing is a process. It is gradual, little by little, step by step. It is a lifetime. What is important is you have good will and sincere desire to change for God and you have improvement everyday even a little by God's grace and God takes into account your good desire. God bless you!

@@CatholicTruthOfficial Bryan how do you tell the difference between the sin of sloth and being incapable of doing stuff because of your disability? What if my disability means I go through periods of being bed bound or only able to get to the sofa because your body is so sore and exhausted? You know you have chores etc to do but your pain and fatigue just stops you and ‘offering it up’ just isn't enough for your body to push through it As this is one of the ones I don't think I'm being slothful but I always question if I am...

Jesus also told us how to abide in him: by OBEYING HIM (John 15:10). It summarizes all the points you covered in this video.

I am a Catholic from India. My Question is, what if a person has ADHD? Is laziness still wrong? I have ADHD, I am very hyperactive , over work and sometimes very lazy. I can't control, it's how my brain is wired. I get bored of repetition work and all work is mostly repetition. I am very excited and workaholic when I get a newJob but slowly my ADHD kicks in and there I am agin, to the worst employee. This is my 4th job in last 3 years and today I'm on sick leave because I am lazy. I even skipped few parts of your video because I don't have the patience to watch such a long one. I like watching Father Mikes video, they are very short and perfect for my ADHD brain.

ADHD is a term used to excuse all sorts of behaviors. You are just excusing your behavior on "it's how my brain is wired". So this "ADHD" shuts off when you get a new job then somehow pops back up after you've grown bored with it. Convenient. So FORCE yourself to work. Get off your "lazy" butt and get back to work. Prayer. Study. Stop making excuses. DO.

I too suffer from an alternately hyper manicky mind or the opposite of lethargic, sluggish almost to the point of paralysis mind, so I know it's a real battle daily! In addition I have suffered insomnia and sleep disturbance my whole life, which made it even harder to get things done in the daytime when I should be working 😱😭 💖But... I found one remedy that has given me a handle on it better than anything I ever tried before... Rosary Prayer ❣️ I'm a Convert to Catholic Faith and I noticed when I started praying a Rosary I would feel calmer and less out of control. But the true *game* *changer* was discovering the full 4 Rosaries daily prayer! From the *very* *first* *time* I tried it I noticed a *dramatic* change to my mood....not gradually but *immediately* I have been called lazy all my life and hated myself for it, but when I started this prayer devotion I noticed I suddenly had the mental and physical energy to do things that I found so difficult to even confront before. If I'm too lethargic and paralyzed it gives me the much needed energy boost to get moving. I literally feel like I've been bound with invisible chains and suddenly they are unlocked and I can move. ... Conversely if I'm demented, hyper with my brain going like 3 million miles per hour Rosary prayer helps me simmer down to the point where I can actually *focus* on something and get it done. I have to repeat the *treatment* throughout my day but who cares? It actually *works* better than anything else I've ever tried including scolding myself and telling myself I should be better and try harder etc! I'm still not 💯 percent but at least I've found a *reliable* tool that has been working daily for close to 3 years now! I started May of 2020 and it has continued working as long as I continue doing it. And I continue to do it because of the *positive* results it keeps giving me. Highly, highly recommend this devotion. I too was inspired by the testimony of others who claimed to have obtained fantastic results with the 4 Rosaries devotion and have now proven with my own experience that this was not a false recommendation❣️❣️❣️ Our Lady Queen of The Holy Rosary pray for us 🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️💖💖💖

EBIN, It is true that people who have ADHD have a hard time holding down jobs, staying focused, and other things like that period that is true. But there are medications. I believe that could help with that as well, not to mention trying to discipline yourself. I (Bryan) I'm pretty sure that I have it also, and my mother never put me on medications as a kid even. Though they wanted me to peread with that being said, I have been able to work going disciplining my mind and not letting it run completely rampant as well. I'm not perfect, of course, but we can make growth in this area. I would guess that this would lessen your culpability with sloth, although it's not a complete excuse, but it would definitely lessen the. culpability of it because there's something else going on there that doesn't allow you to be completely free and make choices normally as one normally would.

  • @superapex2128
    @superapex2128 Жыл бұрын

Could it be that the underlying reason for sloth is actually pride? Sadness at the idea of leading a virtuous life only comes when we rely on our own strength rather than on God's Grace... If we truly relied solely on God - who is both omniscient and omnipotent - wouldn't holiness be easy? Jesus said 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened (and I will give you rest): take my yoke upon you and learn from me that I am gentle and humble of heart, for my yoke is easy and my burden light'. In other words, if we learn from Him to be humble (i.e., rely exclusively on Grace), the burden of leading a virtuous life becomes LIGHT and EASY to bear... If Grace is truly a 'participation in the divine nature', doesn't it follow that we participate in God's Omnipotence (attributed to the 1st Person), Omniscience (attributed to the 2nd Person) and Sanctity (attributed to the 3rd Person) in the exact proportion of our humility? And isn't our understanding of the mystery of Grace a matter of Faith? Perhaps this is why Jesus said: If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree 'Be uprooted and be planted in the sea’ - and it would obey you...

That video game aided some of my idleness 😆 That dilemma works the other way too in that i.e my Godfather and I chased a dollar and trying to please others (women😒) so hard to as erase all our energy or to a point of giving up and pacify-ing time with idleness and overeating to conquer restlessness when it's dire to get sleep for work again and we're too alert from the caffeine and daylight traffic etc, so indulging in Marijuana and food to fall asleep or stay out of trouble by staying home and watching TV and not going out. This overworking and underpaying lifestyle helped to kill all my relationships and time for religious devotions and quality time for anything else in life which seems impossible anyway. I'm now middle aged with virtually no friends and family at all like the woe to the dilemmas of the book of ecclesiasties. Now finding the strength and reason to try harder at this age seems pointless and a waste of energy. I used to use heavy metal, anger, marijuana and alcohol to embrace the solitude but now I wish there was an all night chapel to pray or like an all night adoration but I'm probably accidentally blasphemous because I would be tempted to do Rosary really high, drunk, and depressed. I don't even try to flirt with any women anymore and I just plan to eventually do i.e Rosary and Saint Michael prayer while very high, drunk, and depressed and playing bass guitar. The gym is a dilemma too. Either half naked women remind me that my life stinks or the martial art gym doesn't welcome me because albeit I'm very good, I'm too old and alarmingly always alone and stay there all day 🤣 Protestantism made me more depressed, but for some reason, exploring Catholicism and eastern Orthodoxy is helping me to stay benevolent because my situation looks so bad that I scare allot of people ... Like even neighbors have called the cops on me for just looking so angry and scary all the time 🤦🏻‍♂️ LOL!!!!!!🤣 For lack of a better word, I worry that I'm just ret*rded and this religious experience I had that's keeping me sane is just my brain thinking Gregorian chants are heavy metal for a mental survival mechanism and that I'll get bored of my new half a** peace. Anyways, Glory to the father and to the son and to the holy spirit, sicut erat en pricipio en et nunc et semper ... " Amen ⚡✝️

I would recommend checking out some of our spiritual videos that may help and inspire you. Also, check out Father Mike Schmitz on a daily basis and watch some of his videos as he will inspire. You also. We need to feed our brains with more positive input to replace that negative input. We once had in there. Anoher thing you can do is choose one Bible verse throughout the day. , for a single sentence prayer and just repeat it throughout the day. To keep God on your mind. Know that you will be in our prayers!! God bless!

@@CatholicTruthOfficial i do and have. I like or need the Gloria Patris & Flilio prayer the most... I am a huge doomer. I believe I must deprecate myself to God harder than most others and I hope I'm not some kind of Simon Magus or evil leaven. I just want to get others to pray for the same things and I'm probably too angry or stuck on women or this world to be saved but I don't think I'm going to the lowest hell either. I just want to admire Jesus for being the antithesis to the rancid hell I've seen in my mortal life and pray many others will be utterly awed by what He's about to avenge myself to certain demons and I apologize for being nuts 🤣 God bless!

💖 I found one remedy that has given me a handle on it better than anything I ever tried before... Rosary Prayer ❣️ I'm a Convert to Catholic Faith and I noticed when I started praying a Rosary I would feel calmer and less out of control. But the true *game* *changer* was discovering the full 4 Rosaries daily prayer! From the *very* *first* *time* I tried it I noticed a *dramatic* change to my mood....not gradually but *immediately* I'm still not 💯 percent but at least I've found a *reliable* tool that has been working daily for close to 3 years now! I started May of 2020 and it has continued working as long as I continue doing it. And I continue to do it because of the *positive* results it keeps giving me. I'm so glad someone else's testimony inspired me to try it because it has become a daily lifeline for me. Highly recommend it if you haven't already had a chance to try it Our Lady Queen of The Holy Rosary pray for us 🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️💖💖💖

Brian, is it wrong to have a certain amount of time dedicated to entertainment after work and prayer. You make it seem like we should feel guilty for doing anything worldly like watching a tv show or playing a game after a hard days work with prayer time mixed in. Or am I misunderstanding?

If it affects your spiritual life and your relationship with God and draws you away from God, then, it is wrong. If not, then, it's just fine because a time of recreation like watching movies, listening to music even secular music etc have also some positive effects on us. It refreshes and relaxes our mind and reduces our stress. But we need to spend only a limited time on these things because anything we do excessively is bad for us and it becomes a vice or addiction that affects every aspect of our life like our spiritual life, our relationship with our family etc.

God inspires or even requires/demands other people to give up totally watching movies, listening to secular music, playing video games etc. But to others, He does not or He still allows them to watch movies, listen to secular music, play video games etc. If God has not inspired and required you to give this or that up, then, you can still do that in moderation without feeling guilty of committing sin.

What is important is we obey God's inspiration or will to us. That is why we should not judge people who still do what we have already given up for as long as it is not sinful and does not affect his relationship with God.

To other people, God demands them to give this or that up, but to others He does not only allow them but God even requires them to do those things or to possess those things which He forbids others to do or possess. Doing God's will for us or for each one of us is all that matters even if it is different or contrary to one another.

“Roman Catholic Church,” The term originates as an insult created by Anglicans who wished to refer to themselves as Catholic. They thus coined the term “Roman Catholic” to distinguish those in union with Rome from themselves and to create a sense in which they could refer to themselves as Catholics (by attempting to deprive actual Catholics to the right to the term). Different variants of the “Roman” insult appeared at different times. The earliest form was the noun “Romanist” (one belonging to the Catholic Church), which appeared in England about 1515-1525. The next to develop was the adjective “Romish” (similar to something done or believed in the Catholic Church), which appeared around 1525-1535. Next came the noun “Roman Catholic” (one belonging to the Catholic Church), which was coined around 1595-1605. Shortly thereafter came the verb “to Romanize” (to make someone a Catholic or to become a Catholic), which appeared around 1600-10. Between 1665 and 1675 we got the noun “Romanism” (the system of Catholic beliefs and practices), and finally we got a latecomer term about 1815-1825, the noun “Roman Catholicism,” a synonym for the earlier “Romanism.” A similar complex of insults arose around “pope.” About 1515-25 the Anglicans coined the term “papist” and later its derivative “papism.” A quick follow-up, in 1520-1530, was the adjective “popish.” Next came “popery” (1525-1535), then “papistry” (1540-1550), with its later derivatives, “papistical” and “papistic.” (Source: Random House Webster’s College Dictionary, 1995 ed.) This complex of insults is revealing as it shows the depths of animosity English Protestants had toward the Church. No other religious body (perhaps no other group at all, even national or racial) has such a complex of insults against it woven into the English language as does the Catholic Church. Even today many Protestants who have no idea what the origin of the term is cannot bring themselves to say “Catholic” without qualifying it or replacing it with an insult.🤔🤔
