On the one hand, I'm disappointed that we haven't gotten a chance to fight a Gravemind yet. On the other, with the entire point of the Flood being that once a Gravemind exists, 'victory' is a sick joke, it would have to be Dark Souls style dodge-fest using the thrusters and grappleshot from Infinite avoiding tentacles for over an hour just to get to a scripted defeat scene after getting a few satisfying-looking explosive attacks in that nevertheless look like papercuts in the post-boss cinematic.

When your rocket missed the gonarch, I feel like there was a missed opportunity for an "Ahh, nuts" pun

It would have been nice to bring Lucretia to Sephiroth and talk him down from his insane plan.

Two things that contrive to make the gravemind even scarier. 1. The gravemind speaks in rhyming poetry. It isn't just talking weirdly; it is verbally styling on Chief, Arby, and Cortana. Partly just because it can, partly to show its superiority. 2. In the remake, you can hear it speak in different voices simultaneously. One of them is a child.

The various evolutions of Metroids in Metroid: Samus Returns. In particular, the Metroid Queen was particularly horrendous, and the fact that rolling down her throat to plant a super bomb went from "monochrome 8-bit that you see from the outside" to "modern 3D shown from Samus' viewpoint" (not to mention going from optional to mandatory in the remake) is going to haunt my memories for years.

Kirby's stomach is an alternate dimension, since Kirby theoretically ate a star in a game, meaning his stomach would have to be the size of a whole dimension to do that, whilst holding shape. also Mr. X is confirmed to be 7'3", he is a behemoth.

Gravemind finally makes sense because in the original version of 2 it looked like a giant plant now it more resembles what it actually is a hive mind made up of victims of the Flood. In Halo one you see a proto Gravemind and you actually talk to a person that is a part of it.

Fiddlesticks from league of legends; despite it only being a rework - he turned from a generic scarecrow monster with a few puns to a disfigured and unsettling scarecrow demon - paired with his voice lines in game he stole from his last victims and distorted to sound less human. Gyorg from the original Majora's Mask terrified me when I was little (turns out I'm afraid of aquatic animals) but when I played the remake I didn't feel the same way. I think what makes the original so scary is the display of shadows and darkness on the stage. By the way, the Zelda franchise should take advantage of something like that, lots of well designed and scary aquatic bosses.

9:05: Say what you will about the Gonarch boss battle in Black Mesa, that orchestral background is pretty awesome to hear.

There should be an episode called "Bosses so scary, they don't need a remake to haunt your dreams"

Maybe it’s just me, but that new version of the Gonarch fight looks awesome, especially the music. It really feels like Gordon is desperately fighting for the fate of all humanity.

I knew this would be a great video when Luke called Sephiroth “Beautiful”!!!

Just because he should get more “love”, Gray Fox. The actual fight was the same in The Twin Snakes, but the cutscenes he’s in before that fight have changed to more clearly establish that you are no threat to him.

I spent an hour trying to kill the bullet sponge that Gonarch is now and said "I don't want to play this game any more." And I haven't.

"don't know how to describe"? Luke, my friend, it's like you've never seen a pair of eyes bulge out and morph into hexagonal patterns before firing out lasers in three directions from each eye.

The Gravemind remake, oh my god, it’s… it’s… *BEAUTIFUL* It’s amazing design man, it’s beautiful. Don’t forget about the background!

All these others are creepy, but the Gravemind super belongs in here! I am both happy and concerned that they remade him this way!

So glad gravemind got it's time to shine on this list. That remake had me absolutely shook

So nostalgic, Mr. X scared the piss out of teenage me so many times. Especially that one time he suddenly plows through a wall you totally think is an indestructible part of the environment. I have yet to play the resident evil 2 remake, and I gotta say looks like they really did Mr X Justice

Ah Mr X. That remake is so good, I found out he can go faster when I shot his hat off, then he got mad and I peed a little.

The only thing I don't like about the remake is that they censored the heck out of it! They weren't afraid to use those words on a NINTENDO console, but on Xbox I guess it's too edgy for them.

Mere days ago, I discovered this channel. Around that time I was debating whether I should platinum FFVII REMAKE, or run through all of Halo before playing infinite. Mere hours ago I met the Gravemind and decided I needed a break after that creepy cutscene... And here I am watching this video... I could have gone without that cutscene again thanks.

And this is why I'd love to see remasters of the first four Phantasy Star Games: Mother Brain, Dark Force (several) and The Profound Darkness. Would love to see updates of these cosmic horrors.

Imagine the Bloodborne remaster in ten years.

The scariest part about Gonarch is new music before, during and after encounter with her. It is like: you played the original, you know she is coming at some point, and you hear progressively scarier music. Also after killing her Nihilanth whispering at you "...what have you done..."

Was just thinking the same thing.

Not a boss but the hunter's in resident evil 3 got way more terrifying in the remake.

The Jenova fight was my favorite gaming moment of 2020, and Act 3 of that fight was one of my favorite gaming moments of all time. When the original theme kicks in I get goosebumps. Never been more pumped for a fight in my life.

While the gonarch did become scarier in the remake the Nialanth went from a fetus both visually and mechanically to a towering monster that can crush you like a twig with or without your hazard (HEV) suit

The Jenova fight reminded me of the broodmother fight in DA:O

When I first saw the broodmother I was taken aback by it, promptly killed by it, and then wondered what the fuck did I just witness.

I am sad to admit that I forgot that I had the FF7 remake in my PS4, until I saw this. Being a fan of things like RE, Silent HIll, Parasite Eve, Castlevania and the like, Jenova's new look doesn't scare me, it gets me excited.

regarding luke's dread about kirby... death battle did a video on that. it's an entire other dimension, and kirby can devour anything inside it to gain their powers for a short time.

This could inspire a related video: 7 times Nintendo made eyes a bad idea. 😂

Yesssssssss Super Mario Odyssey has some cute ones!

The Spider Demon Mastermind from the Doom franchise was already weird, but Doom 2016 made it both terrifying, and disturbing.

That updated Gravemind was grotesque, I was impressed.

Dreamweaver looks like a combo of the Typhon in Prey and Rockwell in Ark

I liked when the Gravemind looked more like Spore Spawn, and less like a big worm.

13:41 Let's not forget those arterial tendrils he sometimes spurts out.

Gotta love the timing of the ads. Just when we're ready to see the horrifying image of the monster just mentioned, an ad for a new luxury car shows up.

Okay. Majora's Wrath though. That thing was already horrifying, but with the graphics overhaul...jebsus cringle.
