Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzread.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

If you live in az or texas these might work. In the Midwest or east forget it. I lived in az, and swamp coolers work really well until the humidity goes up in August. These are just glorified fans. The reason ac works anywhere is because the boiling point of freon is about 40 degrees below zero.

I will give y9u a huge thumbs up for quality of tutorial, and I wanna see more. But you need to address the portable AC option. I have central Air set at 73, maybe advice would be 70 at night? Anyone use these "swamp coolers" in the Portland/Seattle area for the recent and horrendous heat wave? We're looking into getting one for the next "extreme weather event" but don't know if they're worth it specifically for "that" in this area and with the temperatures running close to 110 F. None of the reviewers seem to be posting specifically from the PNW and with respect to this recent heat wave. All the swamp coolers were sold out, though, so we're looking for some feedback from people who used them during this recent experience. How did they work for people in the Seattle/Portland area? And which models did they like or dislike? Did they have windows open when they used them? How much did it lower the temperature?

Like the video says, they are evaporative coolers! Big ones have been used out West for years, but now companies make little plastic ones and portable ones. They are usually cheap, have no condenser and work by blowing air over a wet screen. And they only work in dry desert climates". If you live in a climate that has humidity, it will make your house even hotter by adding more water (humidity) into your room! YOUR CAN MAKE YOUR OWN CHEAP EVAPORATIVE COOLER!"; Just put an electric or battery operated fan blowing wind at a damp towel that's hanging 2 or 3 inches in front of the fan (but not laying on the fan due to fire hazard). When the towel starts to dry, dampen it again. The water evaporating off the damp towel makes the air colder! These evaporative coolers don't work on the East Coast where there is more humidity. If your on the East Coast, look for a small portable A/C that has a condenser. If your lucky you may find a portable 12 volt one that can run off of batteries. They are expensive though.

I wouldn’t think so since it adds moisture to the air. Yes, evaporative cooling does work. But only up to a point where the air isn’t already saturated with humidity. These mini “swamp coolers” work great in dry areas. Think Arizona and other desert-like areas. But in somewhere like Florida with high humidity, I don’t think it would work as well. Traditional air conditioners remove excess moisture in the air and work better in humid areas.

@@TheAxe4Ever We have central air; but my housemates keep it at 75*F or higher; and my room is the hottest in the house. It’s a small room, just 140 square feet. I do live in a humid city. Do you have any suggestions regarding a air cooling option that might work for me? I’m also thinking of getting a barometer and checking the humidity. Since we have central air. Maybe, my room is dry enough to supplement cooling with one of these units. Do you have an opinion about how low the humidity should be?

Yes it does, but I bought a dehumidifier and have been happy with the results in a moderately humid environment. It’s 50-60% humidity here which skirts the edge of evaporate coolers. The dehumidifier keeps moisture out of the airs so it feels cool and you don’t have to ventilate.
