7 Awesome Things About Being A Single Dad

Hey guys, Steve from www.FItDadNation.com here.
Today I want to share some things that are very personal to me and why I believe that being a single dad is so great.
Being separated/divorced for more than 2 years now, I've learned a great deal about myself and my daughters.
In that time, I've become a better listener, a better communicator, and strive every day to be the best father I can be.
Being a single is hard, maybe the hardest thing I've ever done, but it also is an amazing opportunity to connect with my two young daughters.
For years they lived with a very unhappy version of their dad and now that I've been able to find some happiness in my life again, I know they see a huge difference.
They deserve a happy father, not one who wallows in misery and this is a lesson I want them to learn. I want to teach them that personal happiness is an incredibly important part of life.
So today I share 7 things that I things are awesome about being a single dad and I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

My 13 yr relationship is sadly about to end. I'm devastated for my 7yr old daughter I never wanted my child to grow up like I did. But my lady soon to be ex is done, she is in the "I don't know if I love you anymore" stage with me and it hurts. It all went downhill after our 1yr old son passed away in 2016. We couldn't bounce back for the better. It kills me to lose her but if that's what she wants I can't make her stay. I've done everything to show her things can change but she's not willing to. We're not bad people we were just raised different and I guess she still needs to discover herself. My crying stage is over I even cried while working in between my route's stops I just felt powerless and heartbroken But I'm stronger now and ready for whatever is coming. Thank you for your upload. Subbed👍✊

Can I tell you something, if you cried, thank God. By this time, I know you have evolved. Look out for what is better out there..I took my son and left my wife to wingle around with her other man(a childhood lover). Apparently, she just came with some members of her family 2 days ago to my dad's. I was called while at office, rushed to my dad's home and we chased them out. She was selfish(myself too at times) for the years we spent in marriage..I am a happy single dad right now..

I have been a single father since my girls were born, and they are 10 and twins 6,my philosophy is 1: I never talk bad about their mom 2: I make time to treat my girls every day 3: Remember that your girls did not come with clear cut instructions and yes you will make mistakes and you and your girls will learn from them. My ex left me with a little girl when she was 3 days old and no diapers or formula,3 years later I tried to give her mom a second chance ,it didn't work but she got pregnant again and left ,9 months later I got a phone call from my ex in laws to inform me that I was the father of twin girls and if I didn't come to the hospital and claim the girls they would be put in foster care and adopted out,one of the twins is very intelligent and the other is severely developmently disabled and I started working from home just to be there for the best angels ever!!! And whenever we go out to dinner or to the store and people look at me funny when we go get clothes for them ,I just smile and say ," you are just jealous that you don't have 3 angels that call you Daddy"

I'd rule out daycare unless you can get the cost subsidized. The no family thing is tough, I was planning on having my mom watch him and pay her what I can. It'll be a tough journey man but at least your not alone.

over one year ago i had to leave, i couldnt stand being in a miserable relationship anymore, constantly walking on eggshells, no affection, the house was starting to fill up with clutter, she was impossible to live with.. it tore me to the core. i never wanted to have a broken family. ive moved in to my mums. i even tried to make it work several times but realised she will never change. i suffer deeply not seeing my kids (7 & 4) i only see them on weekends.. i pick them up Friday and return them Saturday night. Im really trying to pull my life together, but i feel so full of doubt and dwell alot, im struggling to get out of being self destructive. I hide it very well and most people see me as happy, but i feel hollow on the inside. im worried im destined to live the rest of my life convincing myself im happy. social interaction is becoming very draining for me. Thanks for your video, im obviously looking for proof of hope.

i got full custody ex wifes in prison. and that is the only thing thats tough. my little girl is the sweetest thing ever. she has never been any kind of a problem. really. I got a buisness my employees handle. so no problems financially and I get to spend all my time focused on her. its great. just cant understand why my ex didnt want to be a mom. chose f@#$€n drugs over a family. I tell her that her mom is sick and needs help. what else can I say man. she loves her mom. she is just the sweetest kid ever. very sensitive. I havent even thought of another relationship. I know she couldnt take it. she is very possessive. my buisness makes me kinda high profile in the community and these parents know my ex and her situation. I dont know what to tell this child. I would rather her not hear it from someone else. but how do you tell a child her mother turned her back on us for drugs. I dont want to alienate her like I said she loves her mom. can you offer any advice?...oh I gotta say shes a cheerleader. I grew up playing football and now im assistant to the cheer coach lol who would have thought...I think your awesome

Thanks for sharing this video. I guess you have a bit more time to yourself if you are only seeing your children 2 days per week. But I acknowledge the strain it will be having on everyone involved! I have a 2 year old son and I'm very unhappy in my marriage. My wife says she still loves me but whenever anything frustrates her, she turns violent. Yelling, swearing, vile put downs, grabbing me, kicking me, punching me. I'm so sick of it. Even when she will sleep or stay in the bedroom watching her phone whilst our son is out in front of the TV. Thank God her father is helping me because I'm a shift worker and can't manage it all on my own. She also works full time but doesn't spend enough time with him. I went to collect a hire car and drop off my car for repairs yesterday afternoon. Also went grocery shopping after dropping my wife off at home. I came back an hr later to discover our son hadn't eaten and she had ordered delivery for herself. She was asleep on the bed with my son sitting alone with nothing to eat watching TV. That hurt. I tried to clean up, unpack, make him something to eat and she came out in the middle of it. Started yelling and insulting me about some door frames not being painted yet. Her father had to take my son away outside to protect him. He isn't well. A bit sick and teething with his molars. After she cooled down, she mentioned wanting to travel with me. I asked why and she said I'm still her husband. What a joke...cycle of abuse. Kick a man when you don't get what you want... She tried to hug him last night in my bed (we often sleep in separate rooms) and he pushed her away a few times and said get away every time she tried to kiss him. Especially when she tried to tell me to shut up or raised her voice at me. It is having an impact on my son. My parents are very supportive for me to live with them if I decide to leave. I'm just going for specialist DV counselling next week. I need time to sort things out. A support line reminded me to have a safe plan in place before attempting to leave. I have tried to leave a few years ago before our son came into the picture and she went full on manic. Cutting my clothes, standing at the rear of my car threatening to smash my laptop into the rear window etc to get me to stay. Even running in and out of our bedroom claiming she has a boyfriend. I said she can bring him to me then whilst I pack. Why hide him. All lies btw. She even tried to get a rise out of me by claiming she had sex with men every time when she went back to her home country each year without me. Again it was all lies and she admitted she was saying it to try and stop me and hurt me. I care so much for our son and don't want to keep putting up with her violence.

Thanks for the Vid Steve. Nice name BTW. :)I have been a father now for 9 years. I have 4 wonderful; children. 9, 6, 4, and 16 months. The baby is my only girl. I initiated our divorce. My ex is addicted to work and animals and cannot stop ...it's a very long story. I got primary and have them 4 (+) days a week. It's very challenging and everywhere I go I get "You have your hands full". I hear it so much that I just laugh and ignore it. They have no idea. None. But I am a great father. I am avidly involved in their lives 150% and they know it. We do everything together and I wouldn't have it any other way. We are bonded like there is no tomorrow. Some of the stuff you mentioned, I have done since their birth..hence mom's a workaholic. So a lot of this I have always done. I love it. Yes it's a tiny bit more challenging alone but I've been alone for years so that comes from actually LIVING alone. If a date comes along..so be it, but that is no longer a priority. Thanks again Steve!!

Someone in the comments below made the point that everyone should be doing this with their children regardless of relationship status. I agree I have my children full time one mum lives oversea and the other is an hour and a half away. The point I want to make is that being a parent is hard work and important work. I crave decent adult conversation which is hard to have with kids around. I am happy and try my hardest to do things right but you have to compromise completely to have a good relationship with your children, by that I mean you might have a later dinner time and you might give them a later bed time main thing is they get all your love and healthy food etc. you can’t be on top of every little thing all the time with four kids and work with little income. Stress is going to be ever present but you can just get on with life the best you can so don’t judge yourself to much and so on and so on. Let’s face it raising children well is hard no matter what. Attention and love are what is needed by any child.

I've tried to change many things, our communication habits, how we go about finding solutions to disagreements, the activities we do, the approach I take with her, giving more affection, giving her space.. you name it! Now the only change to be made is to part ways, sadly. The crap thing is that she's already talking about limiting my access! Bad times ahead.

+Bradley Clark If you've exhausted all your options and feel like you've given 100% and it still isn't working, then yes, it sounds like the right move to split. It kills me to hear that about having limited access. Your best hope is to help her understand how important your role as father is. If she is reasonable (big if), then you may have a chance.

Yes that's my plan. She's just full of hatred towards me for no good reason. Her mother has also been instrumental in creating problems and further rifts between us. We've not registered the lad yet either so I anticipate my surname being overlooked now (besides being previously agreed on) and I may not even make it on the birth certificate. I just know he will always be used as a bargaining chip and a weapon to hurt me! Beyond livid!! It's me she'll hurt, sure but the lad just doesn't deserve any of it. He's bloody 5 days old bless him. Heartbroken mate.

+Bradley Clark I think having an ex filled with anger and hatred is common. My divorce was pretty straightforward and we both agreed that it was time to split. No tears and not much emotion because we had just exhausted all those over the years. Yet, not she is very bitter and angry. I think it's par for the course and you just have to stay strong and remind yourself that there is nothing you can do to change her opinion of you now nor can you control her behavior. It's on you, bro..

Hi, I have two kids 8yo girl & 2yo son. My ex-fiancé slit when my son was 14mths(2 months later my father passed away, lost job, lost everything), and so my daughter is forced to leave with her mom. We spend maybe an hour or so a day out of a months also few short phone calls but now faded to no communication. When we do see each other it's smiles and laughter then painful cries as she's yanked off of me..everyone on both sides of the family knows where she truly wants to be but can't really do much on my end as of now but she's now making that transition you spoke of where she doesn't need daddy the embarrassed dad teen phase so it's hard that when we left off it was princess & King daddy to nothing so it seems please any advise or opinion or ideas to get those years back or if I ever will? Normally I'm well prepared for handling all types of emotions but my little girl....jus the thought of her or sound of a random girls laughter breaks me down like a baby.. Thank you for your time!

I’ve been single parent for about 2 months now.. I’m 23 have a 2 year old son which is a double of me I’ve just watched this video and I’m starting to see things much clear being heart broken was something new to me.. she dropped it on the spot one day and said we are over! Like this guy said when he came home from work he’d spend time with his daughters and then just sit on the sofa a watch tv. I lost so much motivation in me when I was with my ex partner I felt trapped as well being a single dad was hard for me for the first few weeks now I look at it as it was the best experience my son is my main priority I know she’s letting me see him when I want and take him when I want but I know one day that will end because she’s heartless I just want to say for men it’s much harder because the first things mums do is use there kids as a weapon which in my eyes is wrong as fuck they act like we have no feelings or anything ... I’ve had issues after issue with my ex partner I felt like I was doing the right things as a boyfriend and as parent I paid rent I paid all the bills I put food on the table she had everything I just never expected her to turn her back on me like she has... I’m over that now and it’s time to focus on my son and be a role model

I know some people are bad partners but good parents......Sometimes relationships don't work because the couple isn't compatible, not necessarily because 1 or both people are bad people. Wouldn't a single dad make a good father? because you know he's going to be responsible and stay with the kids.

My wife left me taking the kids citing domestic abuse just to get a council flat for free. The Social Services after interviewing me closed the case through lack of evidence (and the fact she owns a flat abroad) have advised her about having evidence and proof which she never had as it didn't happen. Now she wont let me see the kids as it was advice by the social worker (advisory only) but she thinks its the law? Now she can't come back to the house as they deemed it unsafe due to what was said (lies) and she took the car saying she needed it but I had to tell her she wasn't insured anymore so I got it back. She is living with a friend now and i'm pretty stress free. She pops over once a week so the kids can see me but we end up bickering. Also I haven't paid her any money as she wont let me see the kids on a regular basis so why should I pay for them? Iv'e spent enough on them for years! She earns enough anyway to survive and can't afford a Lawyer so I'm just going to wait it out.... See what happens. I also had to warn her is she leaves the country to go on holiday without my consent then that I believe is child abduction so no holiday for her this year!
