I got the personal Amex gold card with 90k bonus but never used it and cancelled the next day because they wouldn’t drop the NPSL and give me a hard limit. Now I regret it and want the gold card with the bonus. It’s been a little over a month. Is there anything I can do?
@splatty_daddy

@@thetruth2599 you might be able to get the bonus still but the 90k is gone its only 60k now. you didnt actually earn the bonus originally so you might still be eligible to receive one. the gold card now has non-npsl functionality, and its turned on by default when you activate the card, if that helps. just keep in mind the non-npsl features are some of the highest APR i've seen on a credit card, so dont forget to keep the balance at 0 :)
I have followed your advise and strategies with Chase and AMEX the last 2 years. Your KZread channel has strengthened my financial foundation and credit since then. Now, I travel with ease of mind. Thank you Shebby. Please don’t stop the awesome work you are doing for us.

🕵♂ Rushing into Amex cards is definitely not a great move. Their cards are great for a certain target demographic, but getting them for the hype is not very smart. Especially when other lenders out there are much more sensitive to inquiries and card accounts open as you mentioned with the 5/24 rule. They are awesome cards, but can be a waste of money if you aren't careful! Great video Sebby. This is an excellent list!
🕵️♀️ This was a really good video and gave me perspective on when I should apply for my first Amex. You gave me a lot more to consider. Thank you!

🕵️ For big spenders amex is great. But like you said, so many ppl don't look to see if the credits fit their spend. For me the chase set up worked so well. The Venture X as an add on for lounge access also made more sense for my spend. I did like the revamp of the BCE which was my way into amex.
🕵️♂️ I got in too early to the Amex Plat, mainly with the introductory points (before I found your channel lol) but I don't regret it! Honestly this card has already paid for itself (only have had it since November) and has gave me peace of mind with the added benefits it has, like travel and rental insurance. I can't wait to see what else I will be able to get out of it in the near future!
🕵️♂️ Glad to hear thatI'm getting some of the chess moves correct- thanks to your content and others. Just completed my first year in the points and miles game with a great business class trip to Europe. I did Citi Premiere, followed by CSP. then Southwest Priority. Then Chase Hyatt, Chase Amazon, and Barclays/Wyndham Business Earner ( primarily for Caesars perks) this video is very helpful and I'll be thinking about the AMEX ecosystem in about a year.
🕵️ Thanks for the good video as always. For aspiration travel, between the Hilton Aspire & Platinum, do you recommend one before another or does the ordering not matter as much?

You brought up great points especially about the other creditors who have very restrictive requirements for getting cards. Applying for them first and then going to American Express. I will say American Express is very generous with intro offers and limits 🕵️♀️
🕵🏼♀️ Great information! I Personally never got the chase (besides the Amazon) but my husband pretty much started with those and they are great for him. I have too many cards for them now but my most used are my discover (great cashback!), Amex (great rewards and cashback options) I just have the Amex everyday blue cashback card but I'm thinking about going for the platinum. Just have to time it just right.

🕵️♀️ Great video! Quick question if wanting to down grade with Amex would be good? Im think of goin to the Everyday Amex from my Platinum?? I'm going to look thur the rest of you video and subscribe. Thanks
I think I let the hype get to me, I originally got the Gold card because I eat out a lot with the family so made sense but once I was researching I got FOMO with the Platinum learning all about it and went for it like a week later 🤦🏻♂️ so far I’ve used some of the credits not all but we’ll see how the rest of the year will go with it, great video as always 🕵🏻
The platinum’s card annual fee is like 700nt dollars i’m good 😒
My first AMEX was the BCP since it made sense for me at the time (and still does). I remember looking at the perks of the platinum back then and almost being repulsed at the lack of applicability to my life and the annual fee. A few years later my income has gone up, and I'm traveling for work a lot. The plat makes a lot more sense now. I got it with an 80k SUB. I scrounged but couldn't find anything higher. For me, every CC I have has to have positive value without regard to the SUB anyway. I wasn't ready for the platinum back then, but the BCP gave me a lot of value. And I didn't know if in the future if I would ever be ready for the platinum when I got the BCP.

🕵 I might be locked out of BoA, Barclays, and C1, because I didn't know/understand the application rules for those banks when I was first getting started in this game, watching you and Ben Hedges for about 5 years now. Thankfully, Chase and Amex have enough cards to keep me occupied 😀
🕵Chase is such a great place to start, while slotting in other cards whenever they make sense (and/or having ATH offers)!
🕵♂Great video. How would you handle having a sock-drawer keeper card such as the $95 AF Marriott Bonvoy card? It's a keeper card because of the Free Night Certificate, but it's also a sock-drawer card because of the 2X multiplier so not using the card puts you in Pop-Up Jail.
🕵🏾I probably got into the AMEX game too early but I've been content with them throughout my journey!
@happygolucky7387
Жыл бұрын
how are you guys happy with Amex platinum. They charge $650+ yearly. What am I missing
One thing noone talks about is many vendors in Mexico, and maybe other countries don't accept the AMEX card.
🕵I wish I'd known about the Chase 5/24 rule sooner. As Brit who moved to US after many years of being a loyal Amex user, I opted for their cards early on due to them accepting me based on my UK credit history. AMEX are still my go to, but I now need to be patient before I can start adding some Chase cards. Capital One are a little frustrating. I have a Platinum card from when I was building up my credit history, but they don't seem to want to upgrade me. I am now pre-approved for a Quicksilver, but they won't change my existing card to this offer, I have to have a second card.
🕵🏻♂️❤🕵🏻♂️ hey Sebby, another great video. I’ve really been getting a lot out of the Hilton aspire group of three cards. Love the content. I always watch day of release!
🕵️ I think if you are able to redeem enough points from the gold in the time you would have not been earning by waiting for the platinum it does make more sense to go gold first. Idk, maybe it would be better to use another card during that interim time. That also is a very specific set of circumstances, so idk. Great video though, really well put together.
Got it a little too early in my credit journey, but it has been working out though. If I wanted too, I could always cash out via Amex rewards checking account to get the most cashback.
I "slashed" my Amex Platinum on Friday...the 13th. Killed the Amex Gold a few days prior. Netted $2237 in credits after $1350 in annual fees, heeding your advice two years ago; got the Platinum first when the 100k offer first popped, then the 75k offer on the Gold last November, and got rid of both this week (running the Amex EveryDay Preferred, Amex Green, BBP, Hilton Surpass, and Delta Platinum going forward). Definitely maintaining high spend on Amex cards - only Bilt comes close b/c rent. 2023 is a cooling-off year (dropping under 5/24 in 5/24...lol), and going through and canceling Amex cards that didn't have long-term value (Amex Platinum, Amex Gold, Delta Gold). My only mistake with Amex was not knowing how to maximize all of the Platinum credits between Nov-Dec 2020, and deviating from my strategy by signing up for the Charles Schwab Investor card and having to cancel it 2 weeks short of a year in order to pick up a hidden 90k offer for the Delta Platinum (hopefully this does not attract the Amex RAT). Learn some, hopefully don't burn some. 🕵🏽♀
Thanks a million for the tips Sebby 🤝 💯 You're the only CC KZreadr that I *trust* to give reliable and accurate information. 🙏🔥

Got the 150k + 90k recently, great vid!
Got Amex Gold as my 1st card without any regrets. I don't need Chase trifecta even though I have Preferred and Flex cards (only if I want to stay at Hyatt), instead MR points are more valuable for me (I just booked JAL Business for my wife and myself for 300k points+1610$ return flight). I like Amex because there is no hard pull for their products after you've been approved once, I use enough credits to offset annual fees (except Aspire but the night in a high-cost hotel is fun) plus Resy offers aren't that far from targeted offers. For instance, 10 points on dining (which is my the most spent category) for 6 months gave me tons of points
I was an existing customer and was able to get the 150k Resy offer for the platinum which included 10x points at worldwide restaurants for the first 6 months. I don’t know if everyone is able to get that Resy offer or if I got lucky.
🕵️♀️ I’m currently at 5/24 and have only business cards with Amex. Would you recommend doing more business cards to try and get below 5/24 or go after the personal Amex cards. I have 6 personal and 4 business cards with chase now. But there’s always another chase card I may want to try and add.
🕵I also probably got into the AMEX game too early, but my gold card is my everydayer. The platinum had a lot of cool benefits, but just didn't make sense when I was looking. I do spend at least $2k on the gold every month tho so I'm hoping that plat offer may come around at some point. Either way, recently booked 2 biz class tickets on Air France from Chi to Rome in late Aug for 98k that I'm very happy about. First time booking with points and first time ever in biz, so it's been worth it already to me even if I've lost a little longterm.
Great explanation. My error was in 2022 when I blew through the spend cap for the 5x points on airline spend. Felt like a rookie mistake. 🕵♂
@christosbinos8467

Can you explain this a little more? Do you mean you spent more than you normally would, or somehow went over the credit limit? If you could actually afford the ticket, what difference did it make using credit instead of debit or cash?

I got my Amex Platinum card in November in anticipation of international travel later that month. I could not pass up the 150K bonus either. Mainly the card is for Centurion Lounge access since I already have Priority Pass with CSR. In the first month of having the card, I visited two Centurion Lounges and they were great. It's not my every day card but with the lounge access and the credits, this card is a keeper for me.

Where is this 150k bonus 😭
My mistake was that I got the Amex Plat in November and didn't understand the hotel credit. I thought all properties on Amex site were either LHR or Hotel Collection. I found a cheap hotel and booked two nights through the portal, thinking it was Hotel Collection. But it wasn't, so I didn't get the hotel credit and I'm now booked at a hotel for which I wouldn't have paid full price.
I think i bypassed by the 5/24 rule. my 5th card was the amex gold and i have been a member since 2021 but i noticed i was pre-approved on the chase app for BOTH the chase sapphire's. I went in branch applied without having much expectations since I will be going on vacation soon, it be best i get a quick sign up bonus. I was approved at 20 years old with a 722 experian score, with a 760ish transunion/equifax score.
1:17 or you can get the gold for 90,000 points and the platinum for 150,000 points. Its very easy to find these points thru referrals. Doesn't matter which card you apply for first.
I have had the 150 offer for the longest and i have two Amex cards already.

Sebby! What’s the best way to transfer my points and book business class tickets to Europe? I have no idea how to transfer points or how to redeem points. Can I use any points platform to purchase tickets from any airline?
🕵 In your last video, you mentioned that the CITI Premier bonus is going away, do you have a more concrete date when this may happen? I ask because I'm planning to get the Premier, but I'm not scheduled to do so until June of this year.
Sebby, what is a good card to compliment the AmExTrifecta when travelling over sea's?
The only card I have with American Express is the gold card, I like the card but I find MR. Points hard to use. There's either no award flights, is not a good redemption, or its horrible flight. So I've been prioritizing cash back, I spend maybe 500 a month on the card, I guess American Express will put me in pop-up jail soon. Probably also why I only see a 25,000 MR point bonus for the platinum with 5x back on gas, dining and groceries
Need some help! Worried I might have too much, what do I keep, what do I downgrade? My wife and I have the following cards. American Express Platinum Delta Platinum (American Express) Citi Premier Card Chase Sapphire Preferred I worried we have too many cards that earn points/miles, but because we have so many and not a "primary" everyday card, we aren't getting the best bang for our buck, if you will. Would you happen to have any recommendations on what to keep or what to downgrade etc.? We use almost all the benefits of American Express Platinum with all the free credits, and we fly mostly delta and use that card every time we book flights. Thank you for all the help.
🕵️ I was working on building out Chase cards when got 150k for Plat and took it even though I’m not traveling much these days. So trying to use credits and offers to cover the AF. Watching for outsized SUB offers.
🕵♂Awesome content! Would love to see a video on cards that have spend milestones outside of intro bonuses. Example being like the platinum card getting centurion lounge access for a guest after $75k. Or the Chase IHG Premier earning 10k points and a $100 credit after spending $20k per year. Often these spend milestones seem to be somewhat hidden and not prominently advertised on the card site. Just wonder what's out there that we're unaware of!
@edwink1467
Жыл бұрын
Tbh, unless you can organically spend $75K on the Plat (and ideally all on flights for 5X MR), you are better off just paying $175 for up to three authorized Plat users who get their own Centurion lounge access and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit. 10K points and $100 credit after $20K spend? IHG points are typically worth around 0.5 cpp, so that's around $150 back total for $20K spend or a 0.75% return. It's better than nothing, but nothing to write home about when you can earn much more with other cards or get a nice SUB. Most of these "milestone" benefits are not worth the spend requirement unless you already spend that much regardless.

I was able to double dip on the AMEX business platinum card SUB within a 2 year period.
🕵️I know I'm a little late on this video, but I'm looking at getting the Amex Hilton surpass before the elevated bonus expires. This will be my first Amex card. Do all these rules apply to the Hilton co-branded cards or are these just for strictly Amex cards?
🕵️♂️ I just got the Aspire. What would be the best way to get the 150k sign on bonus on the Platinum? I have a trip this fall and could really use the MR points. BTW I love your videos!
Lmao Wow you just made a whole lotta sense in the beginning of the video about Amex Aiming High To New Customers. I was just approved for the Amex Platinum Last night As My 1st Amex Card Ever.
Can you look into and talk about the Marriott giving out 55 nights on certain card combos?
🕵️♂️ just got the platinum and 80k bonus offer. But don’t think I’ll be able to spend 6k in 6m right now. Feels bad. But I didn’t really consider that anyways when getting the card, I get annual fee waived because I’m special so I still get great value
Pop up jail. Started with the Blue Cash and didn't spend that much. It's taken a little while, but I was eventually able to get out of pop-up jail. I did it by getting the BBP and spending $2000-3000/month for a few months. Then I didn't see the pop-up anymore.
Hello. I apologize in advance for the long post It’s been about 25 years since I had an AME. I don’t have a very strong financial portfolio yet, as I’ve had a lot of changes in my personal life. I am now a little more financially stable and I’d like to apply for an AMEX. what would u recommend as first AMEX to apply for. My credit score is not the greatest (697) but I really would like to start traveling more and getting travel points and I understand AMEX is a good way to go. By the way I use Uber every day back-and-forth to work, because it’s cheaper than owning a car I only work for miles from where I live. And I’ve been using my debit card for the last couple of years to use Uber, BUT just found out it’s just a waste. I should be using a credit card to gain points. Can y help?
What income would you recommend for the Platinum?
If you get an Amex Hilton card, would that have any impact on being able to get the 150k targeted offer?
What about Marriott chase and Amex cards ??
🕵️♂️ I have both gold and platinum. Apparently did them out of order but got decent bonuses anyway.
Got into Amex in 2007, so way before all these videos on KZread suggesting otherwise. But still got a 125,000 offer on Platinum. So YMMV in the card game.
Hi, I have a question for you? I gotten three different types of mailers from Amex for my business. Two for the Platinum Cards, and One for the Gold Card. I'm a few months into my business, and my personal credit score of 679! I only have two personal credit cards, and always pay double what my minimum owned. What does that mean ?
I think my biggest mistake was hopping to AmEx before working through Chase and Citi. All three are almost even in terms of total value for my spend and habits, but AmEx's value is derived through their credits (that I actually use), while Chase and Citi focus a lot more on cash back or everyday travel benefits (cash value of redemptions; Amex lacks with their non-yolo value). It puts me in a weird place, because AmEx is amazing, but I think I would enjoy the flexibility that comes with Ultimate Rewards. At the same time, NO ONE comes close to the brand recognition of American Express, and no matter how rational I think I am, carrying the AmEx trifecta feels cool. People will ask you about the cards like they're unobtanium, and that is so strange to me, but kind of fun. That has never happened with a Sapphire Preferred lol. I hate that when (or if) I leave Amex, going back will probably never make sense, whereas you can wait for other issuers to make sense again with intro bonuses.

My brother doesn't have an Amex card yet and I recommended he consider the Gold card because he already has the CSR. What could he do to express interest in Amex cards to have a higher chance of getting targeted for that 150k Platinum signup bonus?
What about the Mariott Bonvoy Brilliant? I can't justify the AMEX plat or gold card because I can't get value from the credits, but the Brilliant looks like a no brainer. Would that card end up throwing me in 'popup jail' if I didn't spend a ton on the card after the intro bonus? Thanks!
The gold was my second card after having only a credit union card for around 3 years, with an 80k points offer i hit in about 2 months Just got the platinum with a 125k offer Sad I didn’t maximize the bonuses but love both cards Considering the chase trifecta in the future but these two do it for me Any suggestions for a catch all or gas/transportation card?
If I get the BBP or the Gold before the Plat because I'll actually put significant spend on them (2k each /mo is my guess) am I still going to miss out on the high Plat sub when I'm ready for it? I see a decent number of folks with 150k on their referral links which should mean I don't need to be targeted right? As long as I'm not in popup jail.
If you have a bunch of pre approved offers and accept a few all will it set off Amex and affect your approval odds ?
I got Amex Plat in November. Only got 100,000 signup bonus, but because I signed up through Resy, I got 10X on restaurants for six months. I'll wait until that expires and then get the Gold card. This channel has been a real help in my new points and miles journey.
You can get the platinum and gold welcome bonus together?
I regret getting the gold card, I’m seeing now how multipliers and workhorse cards aren’t as important in the beginning, plus the preferred doesn’t lag too far behind. Even the savor card might have made more sense.
🕵️♂️ I’m in pop up jail but only for Hilton cards. I got the no AF one and the biz one. But now get pop up jail for Aspire and Surpass. But not for any of their other cards. I think it’s because I got the first one and spent exactly $1000 and sock drawered it. I’ll try spending on those cards for a few months and see if that helps.

🕵♂️🕵♂️ another great video Sebby! Curious...do you see any reason to have both AMEX GOLD AND AMEX BLUE CASH PREFERRED? I want your opinion. Thanks bro

No, one earns MR and the other is cash back. Pick the path you want and build around it.

@Ask Sebby appreciate you! I got my feet wet with getting BCP first....then recently got the AMEX gold and now I dont see a reason to keep BCP next time my AF comes up...
i got pop up jailed a few months ago applying for an amex delta card while buying my plane tickets - but then they approved me a few days ago for the targetted platinum offer. only spent like 20 bucks on my everyday cash in between so not too sure what changed in their algo
I rushed into amex. I really enjoy their cards and customer service but now I cannot get approved for chase.
As much as I'd love to get an Amex set up, I just can't justify it financially. In year 1, the SUB's pay for the annual fee's easily as I'm getting targeted for the 150K Plat and 90K Gold. I'd also add the Blue Business Plus so I can at least get 2X MR points on up to $50K. Come year 2+ using the calculators on the site, the annual fees would end up having me owe several hundred dollars to Amex for the privilege of holding their cards due to the coupon book nature of the credits, that for my use case, just are not going to be used. The Venture X on the other hand easily pays for itself both on Year 1 and Year 2+ as it a definite keeper card. Hoping 2023 has a new card that I can really get value from.
Currently in amex popup jail. Got.the ihg card instead of green or aspire
I love my Amex cards, but wish I could go back and got Chase first. I have the CSP, but with the 5/24 rule I can't get the lower cards to funnel.
I went for Amex first, have had the Business and Personal Platinum cards, and just recently got upgrade offers on both Gold cards. I spend a lot of the Delta Bus Reserve, so am probably seen as a valuable premium card holder. In the late game, I went for the Ink Premier in October, and Ink Preferred right now. Backwards 🕵♂.
Ask~super.that's breathtaknig video!;)
I admit when i first started, i did the cash back for MR 🤦♂️
I have the delta plat personal and business blue and gold card and messed up on the app on my scheduled payment and it cancelled all three accounts because it was trying to pay off everything instead of little chunks and my account and found out at the gas station 2 hours away from home the cancelled my cards
Idk how this works but I had an outstanding chance at being approved for a platinum Amex but only a fair chance at the blue card
I think I got in a little too early, but I'll work around it :)
🕵️ Thanks so much, this is so helpful as I don’t have a history of using credit based on where I’ve lived before. I just moved to the US and applied for an Amex Gold in the UK two months ago. I’d now like to have a US credit card - I’m going to check with Amex to see if they will give me an intro offer with better bonuses (even through referral) but is it better for me to Apply to a Chase Sapphire Preferred first as you said?
This is an old vid but I had CSR 4 -5 years ago but not anymore. I have capital one venture x now. Buying a home and will have increased spending. Looking to get platinum and then gold to furnish the home and then pay it off immediately. Anything else I should keep I mind?
