It's very impressive to see the size of your operation and the number of people actually employed. There are so many 5+ million sub channels where it's literally one person or a couple, and maybe a part time video editor, and they choose to buy Lamborghini and a big house; but you are actually giving people a living to make this operation. I found this wonderful group of folks 2 years ago...I don't know what the sub count was then, but I loved the videos and I quickly consumed practically everything they had ever posted. Learned a lot about computers and built my own that spring. I love everything they do and it gave me the confidence to make my own instead of buying a system build from HP or Dell. I will never go back after having made my own and it was WAYYY cheaper and I am proud of my work and it wouldn't have been possible without this channel.

I am a logistics expert and business consultant and can say you guys do exactly what others try to attain you have accomplished. Its rare but is possible as you yourselves can see.

He's not as honest as you may think. For example, Linus was telling viewers to avoid the X-Series lineup as it was ridiculously priced and was just a tad bit faster than their i7 series at the time. A few months later, Intel sponsored one of Linus' videos and he took back everything he was saying and started recommending the product. Some of his other viewers noticed his change in opinion after getting a sponsor and began commenting things like "Well he does have a family to feed." He's inconsistent with his views and I would not label him as honest as just a few dollars can change his mind.

Interesting, what is missed is this is their opinion and their expert opinion. I mean if you were paying these guys for advice id say sure ok that's not how you run a business. I am old school, I dumpster dived at Advanced Micro, Intel, and Atari all before these places gated up. I have been involved in the tech world for litterelly 4 decades the reason why this is relevant is that you question whether or not they are honest ? So lets take this at your word, and say everything you say is true. They had an opinion and changed it after getting sponsorship. I had an opinion on a very large email well known email supplier and was asked to work on their code. I thought they sucked big time prior, but after working with them and seeing their goals and ideas I saw they were indeed looking ahead. And then I helped promote the use of said software that is used today. I would not say I was dishonest at all I had my opinions was exposed more to their company and then saw their goals. The fact I got paid had zero to do with it. Its so easy to question ones integrity when all we can base it on is a 30 minute video, and a personality. They choose this guy to represent the videos not just cause he owns the thing, but because the presentation matters. Lets say he really liked a software and then said it sucked later, are they then dishonest? No, just because there is a deal in the works, means nothing and its a huge leap to say motives are dishonest. Something to think about.

Most of the views don't come from subscription feed. Yes due to notifications it gets some momentum. But, most views are from Browse Features and Suggestions. Sometimes from search if the video is a searchable one. Majority of KZread users are now Mobile users. They mostly scroll through Homepage instead of subscription feed. Because, many a times they find videos from their subscribed channels there. But, videos from small channels may not be visible as the homepage would be already crowded with big channels even though user is not subscribed to it. That's what our experience says, as a channel and also as a KZread viewer. Also congrats on 6M !! I find your videos by visiting LTT channel.

I'm on desktop, and I would have to agree, I didn't even know that the sub box existed anymore, I'm on the home page with suggestions and whenever LTT uploads, since youtube has seen I watch most of his videos it pops into suggestions (yes I'm a sub as well tho). In the suggestions box it always has the video from a channel I've watching within the last 24 hours and if I've watched msot of their recent videos and they just recently uploaded, it puts it in the suggested videos on the homepage.

seigeengine I saw the nest video just 20 mind after upload and watched it. On mobile too. A LOT of people use phones over pc for KZread too. But anyway 75-80% of the vids I watch are all sub feed vids, or onws that people searched for. and that's about average for most hardcore watchers

back when you quit your job at NCIX and create your own youtube channel i never thought you would reach this level great job linus, i clearly remember i'm your 2,343rd sub hahaha

With KZread, Video Games, Music, Movies damn near everything unless it actually is a One Man Show but even then i'd bet someones in the background.

Your videos delivers a point, Riley's videos are mix of comedic interaction plus delivering a lot of points, and that's art to replay my friend.

Yeah speaking on the topic of non-subscription feed videos.. often i'll see a New LTT video was posted because i see it on recommended or at the end of some other video i just finished watching in the titles of recommended videos to watch next, before i even see it in my actual subscription feed. So I'll end up clicking it from there. I just figured that it's because KZread knows I am subscribed to LTT, that it just feeds me LTT videos as soon as one is made public, regardless if it's in the subscription feed or not. Also I believe this happens often too before your Writers even have a chance to put a more permanent title/description on the video, because I have watched videos with one title, but lets say I made a comment on the video and got some replies and so i check back on the comments later, I'll notice the title of the video has changed, etc from what I remembered. So in otherwords, KZread just begins recommending videos to your subscribers as soon as you publish it and if it's set to public. So prob best to leave set to private until it's ready to go, unless you're happy with this premature recommendation done by KZread.

This is being over thought. If you watch a lot of LTT videos, it will get recommended to you, subscribed or not. This is nothing new. LTT has 6mil subscribers, and there are 780k views on the vid, so most of their subs don't watch the videos anyway.

I don't use the subscription feed at all. I have about 8 youtubers I watch and I click on each of their Channels to see what their new video is. I like to see the list of videos they have, not a list that I have not, more satisfying for me.

I saw the nest cam video when it popped up in my home feed, and it said uploaded 20 minutes ago. Then I checked the subscription feed to find it wasn't there, but I watched it anyways :D

Only ~10% of most channels' views come from the sub box because very few people use the service. KZread has yet to realize that most people using the site don't know that the home page is not the sub box. Optimizing the sub box's order won't change anything when people don't know it exists. The home page does a good job showing people what they like (aka channels they subscribe to) so when a video doesn't get recommended to them every now and then, they claim the sub box is broken. This is the main reason why the sub box has been "broken" for years yet KZread can't find a problem. As for your video still doing well, it's largely believed KZread guarantees a certain number of impressions depending on your channel's algorithm profile. Whether those impressions come from the sub feed or not doesn't matter. Say the algorithm decides your video will have 2 million impressions, if none of those come from the sub box, it will push the video in recommended more to make up the loss. Congrats on 6M :)

mass is the amount of matter, so the distinction is kind of important. edit: or rather, mass is your resistance to acceleration, which increases when you add more matter.

I'm against the change to the feed. This is the very reason i stopped using Facebook years ago and why I am glad i never started using Instagram. I prefer my feed chronological so I don't miss out on things as they happen. I don't want it sorted by some machine that just shows me what a big corporation wants me to see based on flawed data mining.

Tall Order we can't confirm or deny that they are doing that. It's just a test to see if we can get a better feed. I for one trust google is always working for my well being as they now me better that me.

Moments ago I declared the question as rhetorical but then I gave it a real thought and it became serious. So: Could we consume content on our chosen social media channels without a clever machine deciding about it's respective contents? Would we still be interested in the informational mayhem that occurs around us - in our "circles"? Show me the person that really could swallow all of that "friend"-ly s**t without being patronized and...er ... protected fekraisakes :D

As a subscriber and primarily mobile user I can tell you that the nest camera video did not show up in my subscription feed, but on the day that it was released I saw it on my home screen. I suspect that is where most views came from.

I've also noticed a few other KZreadrs have mentioned you in their videos as well from JaysTwoCents, Austin Evens, etc. just to name a few. But I've been a sub way before that!

I don't usually use the subscription feed. I manually sift through the channels I want to watch at any given time, or have an upload schedule I'm following at the time, and follow the recommended videos for anything that seems interesting (since that's usually how I find new channels). Most the time I don't even use the notification feed, I only have notifications turned on for channels that post very few videos that I consider to be very time sensitive, I mostly use the notification feed to keep track of responses to my comments.

WOW! I can still remember some of your 1st vids for NCIX you made, looked liked a wimpy Eminem lol and although you delivered your stuff like a 90's infomercials i always found them very helpful and well informed even now anything computer related or, how stuff works or, for any upgrade/build i want to do, or just simply getting uptodate on whats new... your channel is must check for me before anything else...thank you for your hard work and for the money you saved me from the do's and dont's...6m subs well deserved and even more....congrats to you and your team! p.s. i love hating your high end pc builds because i can never afford them lol

That "watch the video after export but before upload" i really a great bit of advice for rookie editors like me :)

I think the algorithm had nothing to do with the success of the video i think the LTT brand is so much preferred that people (me that is) will watch the video because ik it would be cool(its LTT what do you expect)

you may think that all you like but i have been getting LTT suggested to me way too often and so have my friends.not saying LTT is bad just my friends and i dont see a shortage in LTT recommendations
